| /r/Civ Free Talk Friday - June 15, 2018 Posted: 15 Jun 2018 03:14 AM PDT Greetings r/Civ. Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to. Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

| Reintroduce Civ BE: Rising Tide "Move City" mechanic for Nomadic civilizations in Civ 6. Posted: 15 Jun 2018 08:35 AM PDT It's clear that this was possible in the past, so it should be done again. For those that aren't aware, in Civilization: Beyond Earth's Rising Tide expansion, you had an option to create aquatic cities. In those cities, there was an option to move them one tile to either another coastal tile or ocean, for a production cost. When you did this, you would keep the tiles in your previous borders and the adjacent tiles when your city moves. I don't see why this can't be done again. Allow all civilizations up until the end of the Medieval age to move their cities for a cost, however once a city plots down any district other than an encampment, it can no longer be moved. This gives early civilizations who were placed in bad starts an opportunity to move to a better location and not be at a disadvantage for the game, and allows Nomadic civilizations such as the Mongols more realism. It also mimics real history. Not every civilization stopped being Nomadic in 4,000 B.C. Many still moved from here to there until they found a suitable spot. Perhaps there can be some balancing mechanic so that nomadic civilzations are not entirely eclipsed by settled ones. The biggest benefit I believe would be the ability to expand territory quickly so that you can get to strategic and luxury resources without the need to settle new cities. Perhaps the cost of this territorial expansion would be a temporary but drastic decrease in loyalty, so that you don't have nomadic civilizations with huge swathes of territory for a long amount of time. This is realistic as well. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] | ||

| The actual worst thing in Civ 6 Posted: 15 Jun 2018 05:25 PM PDT The "move unit" button being the same button (left mouse) as the "screen drag" button. Every time I just want to look around, I move my selected unit off the screen. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 15 Jun 2018 07:51 AM PDT Personally I'd like to see Charlemagne in charge of the Holy Roman Empire, like in civ 4. I'd imagine his bonuses would revolve around the different countries that made up the empire, such as the following: Becoming the suzerain of a city state allows the Holy Roman Empire to control its production and units, operating as if it was one of its own cities. Losing suzerain status removes the Holy Roman Empires control over the city state. If suzerain status is kept for a significant number of turns, the city state will be annexed automatically, at no warmonger penalty. What ideas do you have for civilisations? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 15 Jun 2018 12:36 PM PDT Civ VI rise and fall is currently on sale at greenmangaming, but in your opinions, do you think steam will have a decent sale for the summer sale? It's currently 40% off on GMG, and I know steam summer sales are usually great, but it's also still new ish, only coming out four months ago. Historically speaking, have we seen a good size sale on a Civ title that early from steam? If we haven't (if anyone wants to do the research that'd be great) then GMG would be a steal. But if we have, the summer sale is only a week away! [link] [comments] | ||

| Why is it so hard to make friends in Civ VI? Posted: 15 Jun 2018 03:44 PM PDT I just got done with a Science Victory as Poland (Polan can into space) and I just realized that it's really hard to make friends in this game. In Civ V, I had civs all over me constantly, so much so that in countless games every civ had asked me for a DoF. But in Civ VI, I never made one friend throughout this entire run. I never got a Civ even Friendly with me. Everybody had denounced me, usually as soon as they met me. When I looked to see why, I saw that each civ had denounced each other except for I think one alliance. For the civs that actually had different governments, it said it was because of said "different governments". For the civs with the same governments, it said that they "just plain don't like you". Keep in mind that I never declared one war, or took one city. Is it even possible to have alliances in this game? [link] [comments] | ||
| I Would really like to have a new DLC! Posted: 15 Jun 2018 11:20 AM PDT I Think that the time is ripe for a new DLC with a new civilization or two. My personal favorite would be an Ottoman and Byzantine pack with a new scenario between the two civs. What do you think? Would you want to have a new civ and would you be ready to pay for it? | Bug? Got nuked by Gilgamesh while in an alliance. Posted: 15 Jun 2018 03:45 PM PDT In an alliance with Gil. I had a free city (that was between us) surrounded. It was Sparta, which Gil had taken much earlier. My culture pressure had made it go free. I surrounded it and tried to take it, but one of Gils non-combat units was in the city, so I couldn't. Anyway, near the endgame Gil nukes Sparta. I had 5 units in the area, including a modern armor army. All of my units were destroyed. The game completely ignored it. Our alliance didn't change and nothing was said. I won a science victory two turns later. Weird. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 15 Jun 2018 10:47 AM PDT I think appeal is something not many people really understand about Civ 6, especially why it's useful/important. Here are some quick highlights: From Civ wiki: Appeal describes a special form of adjacency bonus that applies to Neighborhoods, and also will affect Culture Victory's Tourism system through National Parks and Seaside Resorts. Appeal also affects the ability to place National Parks and Seaside Resorts. How appeal is calculated: +2: Each adjacent Natural Wonder. +1: Each adjacent Holy Site, Theater Square, Entertainment Complex or Wonder +1: Each adjacent Mountain, Coast, Woods or Oasis. +1: If the tile is on a River or Lake. -1: Each adjacent Industrial Zone, Encampment, Aerodrome or Spaceport. -1: Each adjacent Rainforests, Marsh or Floodplains. -1: Each adjacent pillaged tile. -2: Each adjacent Mine or Quarry. Why it matters: Religious victory: I've found the +1 faith from charming appeal or better tiles to be great for faith generation. Cultural victory: Important for national parks and seaside resorts to generate max tourism. Population/neighborhoods: The better the appeal of the tile, the more housing. Game immersion: it's nice to have a way to value the aesthetics of the game, it helps me at least immerse myself in the game more completely. Anyone have anything cool they do in relation to appeal? | (CIV VI) Is Mvemba a Nzinga insane? Posted: 15 Jun 2018 10:43 AM PDT One game I was playing I came across the Kongo. Typically, he kept pestering me to spread my religion to his civilization. Being a noob, I thought that he simply wanted its presence, so I sent a missionary over there, spread religion a couple of times and dusted my hands off. Nope. More smack talk from ol' Mvemba about my lack of conviction. Ok, I sent a bunch of Missionaries and converted one of this cities. He seemed happy. Next turn? He floods me with an army of Apostles, murders all of my Missionaries, converts his cities back, then complains that I haven't spread my religion to him. Is this intended behavior or just a quirk of competing AI strategies? [link] [comments] | ||
| Suggestion: Improving a City State tile with a builder should grant an envoy there. Posted: 15 Jun 2018 10:34 AM PDT When I first read this Suzerain bonus, I was wondering why anyone would waste builder charges on improving City State tiles, but then I realized that it synergizes with the ownership of the City State resources. So if the the City State had some wine, you'd get that wine, which allows civs to go around and improve City State luxury and strategic resources. However, The City State should be thankful that their tile has been improved, since it gives them extra food, production, gold, etc. Therefore, if a civ improves a City State resource, we should get an envoy for it.
