The Archos Herald, Issue 27 - A Smell of Spring

Posted: 23 Feb 2018 04:58 PM PST

Welcome to the 27th issue of The Archos Herald - your source for all the latest updates on Dark and Light's development and community features!

Development Updates

The patch that we had scheduled for 2/22 was delayed for reasons that are similar to why last weeks patch was delayed. There have been quite a few things that we've been working on, and we want to make sure that they're ready before releasing them out to the community. With March quickly approaching, a new Monthly Development Timeline is being worked on and will have dates for when updates are going to be released. There are a lot of big content drops coming in March, and while I can't give all of the details, I can give some sneak peaks on what to expect.

New Air Temple

Our next big content release is going to include a new PvE experience for players to take on. Like the other areas that Adventurers were able to discover, there will be many mysteries to discover, foes to defeat, and items to create. This will be coming towards the beginning of March, and when a firm date is set, we'll be released a more in depth look into this new addition to Archos.

Community Development Tools

The community has been asking for some time to have a set of tools that will allow them to customize the world around them. We'd like to announce that a dev kit is almost completed, and will be released towards the end of March. Again, as we get further into March, we'll release further details on when you can expect to see this available.

A Romantic Evening Community Event

Our first community event of 2018 has come to a close, and we'd like to congratulate our winners! For this event, we changed things up a bit, and had the community vote for our first and second place winners on Facebook. Below you will see the beautiful screenshots that display how they would dine with the love of their life. As you will see, we'd all be lucky to have these individuals in our life. We'll be reaching out to the winners shortly to set up a time when we can meet to deliver your rewards!

Our first place winner Chelloveck displays an outdoor setting with a beautiful scenic view.

Our second place winner Mickey wins over their date with a dinner under a firework show!

Tales From Archos

The ever-changing land of Archos is full of adventures and trials. Over this past week, we've continued to see and hear tales from Adventurers across the land. Here are this week's Tales from Archos!

Leiphi admires Archos as the sun sets, and gets this amazing shot of themself.

KaL @LoKo@ shows of their impressive and strongly defended fortress.

Infinity cares for their new companion as they build trust for one another.

Blucifer76 heads home after a long day to a beautiful home and a Mobile Fortress that is ready to take on the skies.

Known Issues
We're aware of a few outstanding bugs that will be resolved in another patch in the near future, these are the most major issues that we're working on at the moment:
  • There is a bug where some houses near the stables in Talos have incorrect collision settings. Entering one of these houses can result in your character getting stuck. Collision will be corrected for all of the houses in this area.
  • The Volcanic Hotsprings will occasionally fail to provide its healing buff to players. All players / creatures in the springs should receive a buff that refills Health and Focus over time.
  • There is a bug where Pegasi have a tendency to spawn at level 1 only - once this bug is resolved, all Pegasi will spawn at higher levels.

Chaos S-1 1st Cycle Winner Announcement

After a brutal two weeks of taming, raiding, and monster-slaying, we have our winners for our first Chaos Server cycle! The following Houses on each server will earn a reward for their efforts on these chaotic battlefields.

  • US:
    1st - Silent Assassins
    2nd - Wolfpack
    3rd - House of WildCats

  • EU:
    1st - DEATH BRINGERS
    2nd - Saracens
    3rd - The Dark Windriders

  • AS:
    1st - (0_0)
    2nd - 海尔兄弟
    3rd - 斗鱼TV游戏俱乐部
We're still working to optimize a reward delivery service, but for now, we ask that each of the winning Houses place an empty storage container in their current base, then provide a screenshot with coordinates (press 'del' with default keybinds to bring up coordinates at your current location), as well as proof of your ownership of the winning House and the full server name / region in an e-mail to:

DnLEvents@SnailGamesUSA.com

Once we receive that information, one of our GMs will then deliver your House's prizes to that storage container.

Server Points Reset

After our upcoming patch on Thursday, December 7th, all House points will be reset, but the server itself will not be wiped quite yet. Our second cycle will run from December 7th - 23rd.

Congratulations to our winners, and good luck in the next cycle!

Dark and Light Dark and Light 11/30 Update - Patch Notes

Dark and Light 11/30 Update - Patch Notes

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 04:54 PM PST

Greetings Adventurers! We're going to be rolling out a patch at 1:00AM~ PST on Friday, 12/1. This week, we're making some improvements to offhand shields and adding attribute bonuses to Knowledge unlocks, as well as a few other small additions, changes, and bug fixes.

As always, be sure to finish up your tames and log out before the update hits to reduce the risk of data loss!

Patch Notes

General Updates

Shield Improvements: We noticed that shields weren't offering the kind of defense you'd expect from a thick sheet of reinforced metal, and players would almost always choose 2-handed weapons or completely avoid investing in crafting shields, so they're getting some much-needed buffs and QoL improvements in this patch.
  • Shields now completely nullify damage from frontal attacks when active (holding RMB). Damage is now dealt to shield durability instead.
  • When a shield reaches 0 durability while equipped, it is automatically replaced by a shield with durability remaining from your inventory / hotbar.

Knowledge Attribute Bonuses: This patch introduces new way to specialize and improve your character through percentage-based stat bonuses associated with each Knowledge node. As you increase the rank of a Knowledge node, you'll earn a small percentage bonus for one or more attributes. With this new system, you can even earn bonuses to attributes that weren't upgradeable before! For example, reaching higher ranks in Air Magic will grant a bonus to Movement Speed. Check out the list below for a complete look at what ranking up each Knowledge node will give you:

Adventuring
  • Survival - Health
  • Melee Crafting - Attack
  • Ranged Crafting - Attack
  • Offhand - Stamina
  • Armor Crafting - Health
  • Tailoring - Mana
  • Cooking - Hunger + Thirst
  • Farming - Weight
  • Taming - Constitution
  • Riding - Movement Speed
  • Forging - Weight

Magic
  • Staffs - Mana
  • Alchemy - Health
  • Light Magic - Focus
  • Dark Magic - Focus
  • Fire Magic - Cold Resist
  • Water Magic - Thirst + Heat Resist
  • Earth Magic - Weight
  • Air Magic - Movement Speed
  • Shapeshifter Magic - Stamina
  • Thaumaturgy - Mana
  • Enchanting - Mana
  • Goblin Engineering - Constitution

Architecture
  • Strawwork - Health
  • Woodwork - Health
  • Stonework - Health
  • Ironwork - Health
  • Framework - Mana
  • Human Manor - Health
  • Elven Manor - Health
  • Dwarven Manor - Health
  • Manor Framework - Mana
  • Decor - Focus
  • House - Health

New Furnishings: We're going to be focusing on adding a few more customization options in the near future to help make your Adventurer and their homes feel unique. In December, we're planning on adding dyes for both structures and tamed creatures, as well as a few more furnishings for your home!
  • Decor Knowledge Rank 5 added - High-Backed Chair and Oil Lamp Schemas added.

City Restructuring: In our last few patches, we moved a few locations from within Estel, Talos, and Ironfast to outside of the city, including the stables. In this patch, we're continuing to improve these small villages to help make them feel a little more alive.
  • Added Guards and Villagers to small villages / stables outside of the city.
  • Winding Roots Spell: Now has a delayed activation after 1.5 seconds instead of rooting the target immediately.
  • Wheat Fields: Further optimized performance while harvesting in the field.
  • Bytorg's Toolbox: Increased the number of item slots in the workbench to allow for larger number of items to be crafted at once.
  • Updated several item icons.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where certain vendors in Estel weren't spawning.
  • Fixed a bug where Wraith projectile sound effects would play even when far away from the source of the sound.
  • Fixed a bug where Pegasi weren't tameable.
  • Fixed a bug with incorrect damage values on Wheat Field Goblins.
  • Fixed a bug where some areas of the Hot Springs water wasn't functioning as intended.
  • Fixed a bug where Infernus Dragon fire breath (RMB while riding) wasn't dealing any damage.
  • Fixed a bug on Chaos Servers where House Rankings weren't showing up properly on city billboards.
  • Fixed a bug where some Schemas in a Cyclops Workbench were displaying incorrect crafting requirements.

Dark and Light Dark and Light 11/28 Update - Patch Notes

Dark and Light 11/28 Update - Patch Notes

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:52 PM PST

Greetings Adventurers! We're planning on rolling out a small patch for Dark and Light on Tuesday, 11/28 at 1:00AM~ PST. Remember to log out before the update hits to reduce the risk of data loss.

Patch Notes

General Updates
  • Reduced the number of hostile creatures around Talos, Ironfast, and Estel.

    - We've received a number of reports since our last patch on the excessive number of Deathstalker spawns near starting cities. We've made some changes to our spawning system in these areas that should reduce the number of hostile creatures in these areas overall. Additionally, we're looking into the state of hostile creature strength vs. new players for further tuning in future patches.

  • Improved Centaur Chieftain loot

    - Centaur Chieftains now drop full items instead of Schemas. Since the addition of loot drops for high-level / boss creatures, we've noticed that it's not very satisfying to have to kill a boss to be rewarded with a Schema with high crafting requirements, which just results in more farming. In future patches, we're going to be adjusting the loot tables for other high-level creatures to have them drop full items instead of Schemas, and continuing to adjust the system based on player feedback.

  • Infernus Dragon model has been updated.
  • Removed all Gobboween skins from items and creatures.
  • Meteorites now have a small chance to drop Undead Dragon and Jack-O-
  • Lantern Goblin skins. These skins can be equipped to their respective tamed creatures to alter their appearance.

  • Wheat Field Adjustments:

    - A new, dangerous creature now lurks in the Wheat FIeld, making gathering there a little bit more of a challenge.
    - Optimized the way that wheat is destroyed in the field to improve performance.

  • Turkey Egg decay time increased from 10 minutes > 100 minutes while stored inside of a Turkey.
  • Added additional animations to the Searing Edge axe.
  • Re-added additional language packs. Some of these language packs are incomplete and localization is ongoing. If you're interested in assisting with localization efforts for your native language, please visit our Crowdin at https://crowdin.com/project/dark-and-light-localization.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where the items required to revive a Turkey were inaccurate.
  • Fixed a crash related to single player mode.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash near Talos, Estel, or Ironfast.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash when returning to the main menu.
  • Fixed a bug where some stored items would disappear after a server reset.
  • Fixed a bug where Wild Unicorns would spawn at incorrect levels.
  • Fixed a bug where the Hot Springs would randomly not provide any healing effect for players or creatures.
  • Corrected temperature values for The Scalding Abyss - it should be somewhat hotter now.
  • Fixed a bug where Goblins would deal multiple instances of damage with a single attack.
  • Fixed an issue where player / creature attacks would deal damage multiple times in a single attack.
  • Fixed a bug where it was impossible to use Runes of Warmth or Chilling on a mount.
  • Fixed a bug where players could use an evasive roll while swimming.
  • Fixed a bug where Wind Elemental models would render incorrectly.
  • Fixed a bug where some creature attacks weren't dealing any damage.
  • Fixed a bug where it was sometimes impossible to gather from Orthrus or Bel'Xahl corpses.
  • Fixed a bug where some herbivorous creatures weren't taming even when provided with the proper Herbivore Feed.
  • Fixed a bug on Chaos Servers where billboards weren't displaying Server House Rankings.
  • Removed floating gathering nodes in Blackice Peaks.
  • Fixed a bug where players would be forced out of the Ice Cave randomly.
  • Fixed a bug where small creatures would get players stuck on world geometry.
  • Fixed a bug where it would rain inside of The Scalding Abyss.
