In the first of fifteen Alpha Ship Spotlights, today we look at the Typhoon class battleship.

The Typhoon is a highly versatile close to mid-range brawler that delivers massive missile damage while having the tank to last. Praised by its proponents and loathed by those who end up being in its sights, this battleship is one of the most iconic hulls in the Republic Fleet.

Its reputation comes from its versatility, with an ability to utilize either projectile turret or missile based weapons systems. For the more daring (and sometimes a bit crazy) pilot who prefers an off the wall loadout, a sometimes-questionable combination of both systems can also be viable.

Packing the medium and low slots to put up a formidable tank with surprising utility, supplemented by bonuses to missile rate of fire and explosion velocity, the Typhoon tends to be at home in front line combat roles where it excels at dealing vicious damage.

We're delighted to announce that the Arms Race Release has been successfully deployed!

The Arms Race Release expands the number of ships that can be flown by free players! Anything up to a Battleship is now accessible for those who play free, including any Battlecruiser, Cruiser, Destroyer and Frigate, across any of EVE's factions.



In addition to this, the Arms Race event will kick off today, when new improvements to Pirate Forward Operating bases, a new Project Discovery Monument, and more visual renovations to New Eden are also released.

The Arms Race release will also contain additional iteration on Resource Wars, with the introduction of the support role, as well as some balance changes to rewards. Jump fuel and jump fatigue changes are also included in this release, as well as the deployment of the new empire selection process to all new characters.

The Arms Race Release brings the highly anticipated expansion of the Alpha Skillset, allowing access to both Battlecruisers and Battleships without the need for a subscription, as well as the ability for alpha pilots to train cross-faction for the first time.

With a new training cap for Alpha Pilots of around 20 million skillpoints, this release also introduces the Daily Alpha Injector, a new method of training for Alpha Pilots that allows them to train beyond the 5 million skillpoint free training cap.

In addition to this, the Arms Race release also brings a whole host of quality of life improvements, including New Warp Disruption Bubble VFX, Pirate Forward Operating Base discoverability improvements, the introduction of the support role to Resource Wars, adjustments to Jump Fuel Usage and Jump Fatigue, and many visual overhauls to graphical assets across New Eden.

Downtime information for the deployment of the Arms Race Release will be available on Friday, and patch notes will be added to EVE Updates[updates.eveonline.com] and the Community Portal[community.eveonline.com] on release day – December 5th.

We were recently made aware of an issue for new pilots on Steam that was causing their launchers to hang during their first login.

This issue first reared its head on Tuesday and after a short investigation, we've now been able to isolate the cause and fix it.

If you've recently added EVE Online to your library, but haven't been able to log in yet because of an issue where your launcher was stuck with a loading icon, you should now be able to connect just fine.

Obviously this has caused some frustration and confusion for some of our new pilots, and we'd like to offer our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused during this outage!
