A friend that's no longer here

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 03:54 AM PST

A good friend of mine committed suicide last week. I really miss him so much. Best Zeus player I've played with. Today would have been his 28th birthday. Dennis, wherever you are, I hope you're happy now.

Pretty much as the title states... After these first matches I feel like he is really using this opportunity to prove himself. All the best to Sheever! Quick recovery :)

Why are the leaderboards not visible in the client

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 12:36 AM PST

not sure about everyone else, but it just seems an unnecessary pain to go to a site to check the leaderboards instead of simply having it in a tab after "Arcade" or something

New to the game and I must say...

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 08:02 AM PST

I fucking love this game and (even with all the toxic people) really really love the community. I'm a little over 200 hours now between the last 3 months or so. Only started playing a while back and really started learning because all my online friends have better shit to play without me. My MOBA knowledge before this was only Smite (console pleb before last year, sue me) and played a bit of HotS because one of my friends plays with her IRL friends, who play it a lot. I must say, I really put this game off of my 'must plays' for a long time, because of the harsh learning curve and all the mechanics I had to learn just to get 'decent'. Anyway, just wanted to say, thanks for everybody for caring so much for the game. I'm hoping to continue playing and climb up the ranks(I'm not herald surprisingly) and play with some higher skilled player sometime down the line, but I know I have a shit ton more to learn. If anyone has any tips on getting better and hell, if you just want to put in some matches together, just let me know :)

Pain Gaming tactical cheat pause

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 04:23 PM PST

just disqualify them, this is retarded

UPDATE: please read tavo's response: https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/7gr168/pain_gaming_tactical_cheat_pause/dqlufcj/?context=3

MY OPINION (after reading tavo's response etc):

In my opinion, I think that accidental mishaps do happen, often, but this does not make them acceptable.

Instead it should be made clear to the players, by their regulating body, that they MUST be doing everything in their power to avoid these kinds of accidental mistake.

The only way to propagate this is for tournament organisers to address the issue in writing. If regulating bodies don't have rules - and disciplinary procedures - in place, then players have only limited incentive to act in good faith, and limited incentive to try to minimise their accidental mishaps.

I am not saying that the problem is that some players want to cheat. In all walks of life, there are people who want to cheat, and people who have accidental mishaps. However, there is always a system in place to mitigate these things.

In football, you have those 'fake' or 'intentional' fouls, and you have the genuine accidental fouls too, all the time. But in BOTH cases there is some sort of reprimand, because otherwise it's solely up to the discretion of the players in how they want to act and how much care they put into being mindful of their actions towards a fair game.

My solution is that we should start to view 'tactical' pauses as more like 'accidental fouls' in a football game, and that tournament organisers start to discuss appropriate ways to penalise teams for suspicious infractions, accidental or not.

One guy actually suggested Valve blanking out our screens during pauses in important games. This is something to look into, perhaps

An old game-breaking disruptor bug is actually quite impactful now due to his new talents and some newer items.

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:48 PM PST

So basically as far back as I can remember Disruptor's Kinetic Field (E) has had a major known bug where casting a second one while a first was active would cause the first wall to do nothing, meaning enemies who you trapped inside can walk through the first wall freely even though it should still be active. You can reproduce this extremely easily in demo mode by enabling free spells, trapping an enemy in a wall, then casting another wall somewhere else which allows them to walk through the first wall.

Previously this wasn't a huge deal because it only mattered if you had a refresher orb which was almost never bought on disruptor. Now however, with the -3s kinetic field cooldown lvl 15 talent and the +4s duration lvl 25 talent, this bug actually matters in games that go late if you choose those talents as the duration is longer than the cooldown with those talents, and it can be a huge deal for people who don't know about it. It also comes into play earlier due to arcane rune and also if you have a kotl on your team who reduces your cooldown via his E, or if you buy an octarine/refresher, or if you pick up the refresher shard from the third rosh kill.

Essentially, though this bug has existed for a long time, the circumstances where it might be relevant have increased dramatically, from a single edge case where you had bought a refresher, to now where in addition to the refresher it also shows up when you either hit level 25, kill rosh 3 times, pick up an arcane rune after level 15, have a kotl on your team, or buy octarine. Many of these circumstances are not exceptionally rare.

I'd like to get some attention for this bug to be fixed so that my "Make Dota Great Again" wall-building meme strat can be functional in turbo mode, and also so that people don't unwittingly screw themselves by making certain talent or item choices without knowing the full implications.
