How to Doom? Dota 2 Doom, Invoker ,Brewmaster

Doom is one of the best positions 3 in the game. Even if Doom starts with 0 armor, his standard build should be utility/tank. Scorched Earth helps a lot in this way, and by building a MekansmMekansm and then a Shiva's GuardShiva's Guard it turns Lucifer into a great utility who can outrun most of enemy heroes thanks to Scorched Earth and Shiva's GuardShiva's Guard. Assault CuirassAssault Cuirass is usually the next step into the collection of Auras. His ultimate Doom has very few to be explained, since it's the most famous hard disable of the game. Use it on the hard carry or a key teamfight hero (Enigma, Tidehunter, Magnus, Faceless Void, etc). Eat the big jungle wolf to gain a +30% atk Aura and a passive crit for yourself, then remeber to eat only creeps with no skills to avoid an override.

How effective are heroes that build a lot of tanky and aura items? I've seen a lot of Doom who go MekansmMekansm, Shiva's GuardShiva's Guard, Assault CuirassAssault Cuirass for example. I am also thinking of going this route for my beloved Abaddon when I am not playing a support role.

I assume that in team fights, going aura means you increase the survivability of your team while reducing those of your enemy. However, since you are building aura, your DPS is not that high. My question is does the benefits I give to my team with aura offset the lack of damage of my hero?

If the enemy team, for example, have heroes that scale a bit better than my team damagewise, will my aura build be useless because my team does not have enough damage to win fights?
