Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 01:00 AM PST

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about 'no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content'.

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

I Love ESO!!!

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:22 PM PST

ESO is by far one of the best games I've ever played. Never was much of a MMO fan but this game has changes my mind somewhat. This game caters to both crowds of gamers. Solo players and multiplayers and that's what makes this game stand out above the rest of the competition. ESO in my eyes has a long time to stay relevant because Zenimax has so many different things they can do with this game. I look forward to the future of ESO!

Dragonknight or Templar - DPS?

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 01:21 AM PST

Howdy all, what is currently the best choice between the 2 classes & with which race? I searched for this topic, but most things were outdated unfortunately.

Thank you Ms. Templar!

One of the best MMO moments I had so far was doing the Wyrd Tree questline.

I have a stam NB, was around level 13, and I couldn't kill the final boss in the tree. I figured out the mechanics, but it just wore me down in combat.

Along comes a lvl 24 templar. I asked to group and she said yes. I tanked and DPS'd the boss while she was shooting heals at me.

I'd like to think I helped her as much as she helped me, but it was cool that there was something in the game that I actually needed someone's help with.

I'm sure many of you can solo this, but it was fun to group up instead of researching and watching videos that show how to do it.

haven't played the game weird question I have

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 02:03 AM PST

I might pick up the game soon, but I wanna know why is everyone so scrawny in this game? It seems like no one is big and meaty, everyone has a shoulder length of like 3 inches. Did the developers intentionally model the characters like that? Looks so weird to have the characters look so skinny. I wanna have a meaty and muscular character, is that possible? because jesus from what I'm seeing everyone needs a hamburger or two in this game and it kind of bugs me tbh

[Discussion] Disgruntled Destiny player here who might want to play TESO

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:00 PM PST

As the title implies, I'm a little fed up with Destiny, but I still have a new MMO itch that I find needs scratching. I should also say that I'm pretty new to the MMO scene, and Destiny was appealing for it's laid-back nature.

Is this game MMO noob friendly? Can I expect enjoyment out of this game having very little experience and friends (I am willing to group with people on the subreddit if it's necessary) to play with? I love Elder Scrolls, so I thought that might help ease transition to proper MMO gameplay.

But what do I know; I'm curious to hear what you all honestly think.

DPS is extremely low (Nord, DK, typically Tank) (NA, PC)

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 03:06 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm a "veteran" player (as in I got it in september of 2014), but my main character has consistently had around 2k dps MAX. I run the ebon armory set and hundings rage with all pieces being purple. What factors are contributing to my (lack of) dps, and what should I be doing to remedy the situation? My attributes are: 8 Magika, I think 25 Health and 38 Stamina, theif stone. Thanks in advanced guys.

Why so much hate for the precursor dummy?

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 08:19 PM PST

Having never had the money or the want to grind out crafting dailies in hopes of getting a target skeleton, I was immediately very excited when I heard that there would be a free one available from a quest line in clockwork city. And now it sits in my courtyard for me and all my friends to use. I've been playing this game since day 1 and I'm level 457 as of right now and I was never able to test my DPS until I got that thing. Today I was doing a google search for how much health it has compared to the target skeleton and I discovered a lot of hate for it, can someone enlighten me as to why?

[PC] Just bought the game and looking for some help re: dungeons

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 01:49 AM PST

Hi all,

I just bought the Gold Edition for my boyfriend and myself after playing the free trial for a few days and just had a question regarding dungeons (he's a two-handed Templar and I'm a dual wield Nightblade).

We did Spindleclutch I at level 12/13 and found it amazingly difficult, even though it appeared to be the first dungeon in the game? After about 3 or 4 tries, we completed it. Were we too low a level, are most dungeons supposed to be fairly hard with two people, or should they scale accordingly? When we recalled after dying, the top right corned stated it had been scaled to "champion 160"..?

Did the Necromancer set get replaced by the “Withered Hand” set?

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 04:52 AM PST

Hey all, I'm going off Delitia's gaming Magicka Sorcerer DPS build and it lists the end game armour "Necromancer" - however, the ESO wiki said it got "replaced" by Withered hand? Does this mean it just got renamed or did the stars change?

I appreciate any and all responses, thank you!

Thank you ZOS for the Dungeon Event! As a new player, it was a great way to catch up a bit to veterans

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:00 AM PST

I wanted to post that I had a positive experience on this event.

Farmed 7 characters to level 10 on day 0, and then farmed around ... 50-55 boxes. Besides the million treasure maps I got, this was my most important haul:

  • Imperial War Horse mount (most wanted item since I didn't have any mounts)
  • Imperial Dog pet
  • Treasure Hunter costume
  • Some recipes worth 500K Gold which is HUGE for a new player

I think this rewards are excellent considering them that we only have to spend time, not money, to get them, and they were pretty easy to get too.

Also it was nice seeing those dungeons though I missed all the lore. I think those should be simply automated scripts that NPCs shout to everyone, and having optional flavor dialogues on the rest of NPCs. Quest should be automated too.

Place for a new start

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 04:33 AM PST

Hi,

Going to start ESO again and wondering what is the best place to go level a new character please?

The main aim is not not fastest level etc but rather relax and enjoy the game. Play through a nice story, look at a pretty zone etc.

I am thinking of playing DK.

Thanks in advance!

Is there some kind of a damage simulator out there?

Posted: 07 Dec 2017 02:09 AM PST

Is there website that would allow me to test my damage between different sets? A simulator that would allow me to put certain gear, rotation, cp and attributes and see how the damage differs if I change to some other gear but use the same exact rotation?

Currently I have trouble understanding what the optimal combo of weapon damage and penetration and crit chance etc. is. For example I don't know if it would be better to have Spriggan+Two fanged+Velidreth or Hundings+Spriggan+Velidreth or Two fanged+Hundings+Velidreth or some other combination on my stamblade.
