Reason why I hate and love this community

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 12:59 AM PDT

I am a lowly under level 50 casual player. I almost only play solo. I still don't know what I am fully doing but I have fun all the same. Tonight, I came upon a master chest. Little things like this are really splendid for such a casual player like myself. I looked around to make sure there weren't any enemies that could interrupt my doubtless 10 plus unlocking attempts. There was a group of mages close but not enough to bother me. So I hold my breath and begin..I get through a few attempts and begin the next...that is until another player, level 160ish, brings the mob of mages over interrupting me. Forced to deal with them, I naively still haven't figured out the ruse. They are finished off in a matter of seconds and I turn, only to see this sly nord pop open the chest in one attempt, look at me, then ride off.

Saddened and disheartened I mount up myself to leave, but not before an argonian knight in colorful shining armor swoops in on his beautiful mechanical spider steed, and requests a trade with me. He gifts me 5000 gold, says nothing, and rides off.

So to you kind sir or madam, thank you. People like you remind me why I sometimes hate but ultimately love this community!

Double AP should be a regular event

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 09:47 PM PDT

Simply put, I think that double AP should be a regular event. Not like an every weekend thing for sure, but like... once every 2 or 3 months just for a weekend or so. PvP has its problems still, but this has been a great week to be in Cyrodiil, for me at least. How has it been for everyone else?

Mid-Year Mayhem has converted me back to PvP

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 05:50 PM PDT

After decades of gaming I have become jaded with human shenanigans in video games. My perspective had changed from the young man's desire to prove himself, to just wanting to relax after a long day of grinding bones to make bread.

So many PvP games descend quickly into dickery and saltiness; people sweating every move, getting tilted by the slightest transgression; so much anger. I'd often finish the game more stressed than when I started.

So when I began playing ESO I was very wary of PvP. Give me a nice stroll through Stonefalls over getting teabagged in Cyrodiil. I soon found out there were some elements of PvP I'd have to engage with if I wanted certain skills and abilities, but kept putting it off.

This week provided the opportunity, and after dipping a toe in, I found the water amazingly refreshing. I ended up dragging five characters across Cyrodiil and battlegrounds, leveling up all the necessary skills, making a tonne of AP, buying bling, making some friends, learning a lot, and having fun to boot. Even when players were getting salty and stakes were high; even when there was some dickhead behaviour; or when you felt like you were being farmed in Imperial City, it was still fun. When people were dropping like flies and we were getting our shit pushed in by seasoned players who seemed untouchable, it was still fun, it wasn't stressful.

Maybe it's because of the world it takes place in, with magic, not just guns guns guns, or the excitement of new experiences, or meeting great people and earning skills and rewards, but I left each session feeling pretty elated. Maybe next week the shine will come off, but I feel like I have turned a corner in regards to PvP, and I really have to thank this game for that, and all the players.

One particular encounter was probably the highlight. We were losing the war big time in Cyrodiil, vastly outnumbered, it seemed like a lot of people were just giving up and leaving the campaign. A couple of us resurrected in a far off keep and went on a guerilla run deep in enemy territory hoping to cut off the link. As we rode down we saw a couple of familiar opponents ride in to a delve for the bonus, and we took the opportunity for an ambush. We watched them enter and then popped in only to find that we were the ones ambushed, they were lying in wait for us! We fought them off after some tense moments, and completed the delve. While we were inside one guy came back in and got put down. A small victory for our side. Then we made our way to the exit.

I was still in the loading screen when my team started howling with laughter. The group we had ambushed had grabbed some buddies and set-up a whole truckload of siege equipment outside the delve and fired everything as soon as we came out. People were screaming "They got ballistas! They got catapults! Oh my god!" We were obliterated. They then teabagged us a lot. We were laughing so hard we didn't care. They had turned vengeance into an art form. It could've just been another tit-for-tat gank, but they elevated it to something memorable.

So now I want more experiences like that, and I know where to find them.

tl;dr - PvP is pretty good in this game.

Matchmaking Normal Trials would really help some players

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 09:34 AM PDT

I have never done a trial because I hate being "that guy" in the trial that doesn't know what he's doing. I've done that in a dungeon before..but it's randoms and it's different. I agree vet trials need to be organized, but I've heard normal trials are basically at the level of a vet dungeon..so I think matchmaking for those so players could learn would really help players like myself who has never tried them out

I Would Really Love a New Arena

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:15 PM PDT

This Orsinium event has struck my nostalgia bone. From all the excited individuals posting their first clears, to the 20 odd runs I've made searching for a winterborn ice staff I've been reminiscing on how much fun vMA was to learn.

The challenge of the arena and it taunting me with the glorious BiS weapons drove me to log on to the game as many times as the mechanics got me to quit in fury. I would love another challenge. Another arena to spend hours mastering by myself with a sweet Spotify playlist.

A Redguard shop owner in Orsinium said he heard about the impervious vault in Sentinal being broken into.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 04:21 AM PDT

And I tried freeing a Khajit slave as part of a Thieve Guild quest line but he told me he didn't trust me because I was a Dark Elf.

Props to ESO for next level immersion.....

Most people in the current state of the game breeze right past this stuff.

Bow dying sucks.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 12:13 AM PDT

There are some really cool bow motifs out there, but it seems like 80% of them don't dye very well at all. I want to dye it black, like pitch black. Coldharbour Ash Black. And what does it do? Dye grey. Always grey. And it fucking sucks. I just want my bow to match my armour (which is black and not grey) but oooooooh no, you'll get grey and you'll fucking like it.

To the people in vvardenfell who welcomed me to their group, thank you so much!

I'm a first time player at a measly lvl 27. Some guys were inviting people for finishing all of vvardenfell's bosses. They let me join and I'm now a proud 'Defender of Morrowind' :)

Rant about Vet DLC PUGs

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 08:18 PM PDT

Hey you guys, I'm not being so fucking mean because I'm a tryhard tank who expects 100k dps from everyone. I'm being a loud asshole because

  1. You didn't bother to fucking ASK QUESTIONS about a veteran DLC dungeon that you haven't run before
  2. You didn't bother to speak up when you didn't fucking understand what I meant
  3. You didn't actually apply the knowledge that I fucking kept giving you over and over
  4. You STILL didn't ask questions about the bosses or mechanics with the NPC's
  5. You kept fucking up spectacularly with a shitty DPS that would barely be acceptable on normal, much less vet

How is "flame stuns him during invulnerable phases and blood takes out lava flows" NOT understandable? Yeah I fucking saw you asshole right next to the flame when he was doing the rock shake, you literally did nothing despite you being in the circle to activate it

I have almost instantaneous 180 degree vision by now, I see almost everything. Don't fucking bullshit me

Rant over. Felt good. I'm an emetremly helpful guy. Sometimes I spam newbies so I can make them training gear, I help people with dungeons that they haven't run or I carry them

But when you get to a VET DLC dungeon with no knowledge of the mechanics, you don't bother to ask questions and keep doing mistakes via trial an error, I have to stop and explain everything every 5 secs when we keep wiping or half the team keeps dying, of course I'm going to turn into a huge flaming asshole, theres a certain level of dungeon rules and behavior which should be second nature by now, and you should have fucking known by now. Even if as a 530 cp healer, and two 750 cp DPS you didn't know this dungeon specially, you should have known by now that this isn't highschool or college where people refuse to ask questions because they're spineless shits that don't like doing it, this is a team based game on one of the hardest dungeons in the game, I damn well expect you to pull some fucking weight.

Is solo content too easy?

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 04:43 AM PDT

Interested to hear some people's thoughts on this.

Some of the group content can be reasonably challenging but if you have even remotely decent gear you can light attack your way through 90% of the solo content. Seems excessively easy even by MMO standards which is a bit of a shame for me as in every other way I'd say the questing experience is easily the best of any MMO.

Almost makes me wish they had an optional difficulty setting for all quests, delves etc. that also affected the rewards slightly. Maybe just a bit of extra gold or some crafting stuff if you quest on the higher difficulty - enough to reward you for doing it but not enough to disadvantage less skilled players.

What do you think?

Cool advice for anyone with Clockwork City/eso+

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:29 PM PDT

This morning I learned some interesting stuff I'd like to share!

So all enemies in the Clockwork city realm (not evergloam, just all the mechanical dudes) have chances to drop Clockwork Oscillators. They sell for 9 gold each. 9 gold, you're saying, that's nothing!

Well, the average enemy drops around 10-15 gold by itself (not including group dungeons) and then I realized... every critter in the clockwork city overworld and delves BESIDES EVERGLOAM drops at LEAST 1, if not 2 of these things! And there's dozens of critters EVERYWHERE, including the dragonflies. After going through one part of the overworld for 5 minutes doing part of a daily, I had enough to sell them for over 500 gold!

it's not something you should go out of your way to specifically farm, but it only takes a few seconds max to aa a critter once and loot it, and it's guaranteed gold, plus you'll probably already have the inventory spot reserved from killing regular mobs! :]

Midyear Mayhem brought me back to Stam DK.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 03:23 AM PDT

I have to say i really appreciate those ESO-Events. They will nudge you to rediscover aspects of this game you have already forgotten or refused to do long time ago.

During this season i thought to myself "give it a shot" get some AP buy some nice rings for your Builds or just do it for those damn achievments. I ran a Magblade as a Main neraly BIS Gear gfpr Pve and PvP, good DPS and all these Meta mindset >You will do fine< with your Equipment... Magblade Meta..OP...best class for this and that,

Man, i was so wrong on so many levels. I got destroyed so fast and so hard and it brought back nightmares of my first times doing vMA. I more often bit the Dust than i was pulling something noticable.

Than i wanted to try something new/old and lifted up my old Main, a Nord Stam DK. Despite the general view of Stam DK as the worst PvP Class, no mobility no Burst ...yadda yadda yadda.

So i grabbed out a Build, crafted and refined some gear bought some Glyphs and jumped in the fighting pit and dudes I went havoc. I tanked a shitload of damage just to counter back ´to deytroy enemy after enemy.

My first round in Battlegrounds resulted in a nearly flawless Victory and in Cyrodil even those gankers of DC gave up and went on looking for easier prey. I never had so much fun in eso PvP. I learned noit to be greedy and chase every enemy rather than waiting for them just to show them the mercilessness of the People of Skyrim.

I even went back to my 'ol passion in Tanking some Dungeons, which i used to quit after Morrowind launched.

So I want to thank Midyear Mayhem for bringing back my love for the Dragonknight.

Buying mats to upgrade alt crafting for daily writs

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 05:03 AM PDT

Is this worth it?

I would have to spend a lot of gold upfront (or farm mats which has opportunity cost) to get the mats to upgrade my alt's crafting skills to 50 but then I add an extra set of daily writs to my income stream.

Is this recommended?

I want to generate a lot of gold but I'm not big on traditional farming - I prefer to buy mats & craft for profit or just flip items. Those two things seem a little trickier in this game than others.

MoL Switch Between Normal and Vet?

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 05:02 AM PDT

Hi guys, after looking around online I cant seem to find the anser to this question. I know there's an achievement for completing Maw of Lorkhaj on both normal and vet mode, but what specifies which version you compete in? I'm not a champion yet, but if I dont get the MoL normal completion achievement before it switches to vet mode, can I ever get it with the same character?

[QUESTION] Can someone recommend me a good mouse to play ESO with?

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 04:56 AM PDT

As title says. I'm looking for a good (mmo?) mouse so I can easily use my skillbar. I currently have a Zowie FK2 which is already a damn good mouse but not suited for a mmo-style gameplay.

I'm looking for a mouse in the price range of maybe 30-50€

Which mouse are you guys/gals using?
