Why do we play Hearthstone? (survey)

Greetings, fellow Hearthstone Players.

I am a dedicated Hearthstone player for 3 years and I am also a business student who is currently writing his master's thesis. In my thesis I want to get these main questions answered: Why do we play Hearthstone and why do we buy card packs?

I will provide further information on this research topic in the comments (concerning the theoretical background of free-to-play games, prior findings and unanswered research questions). And of course, I will share my findings with the community.

Some information regarding this survey:

  • it is for research purposes only and won't be published (I don't receive money from anyone)

  • it will not take longer than 5 minutes

  • you will not have to state your name, email etc.

    every 15th participant wins 7 Kobold packs! (via gift function; limited to the first 150 participants)

Update: The lottery is already complete. I sent friend requests to all winners and posted parts of their BattleTags in the comments. The bad news: I talked to the Blizzard customer service and they told me I have to wait 7 days after becoming friends before I can send gifts. Sorry for that, I really didn't know about this. So please be a bit patient :)

Guess who's back! I didn't get the chance to say it, but a very happy new year from me and /r/customhearthstone, hope you all had a wonderful holiday as well. As you probably noticed, the above link is not to an album of the top posts from this week. A very good batch of cards if I do say so myself; definitely my favourite of the year so far :) With it, we feature the winner of the very awesome weekly contest where the theme was dungeon run passives. There's a few humorous cards also in the mix, but ones that I think are still worth sharing with you all. LPT: You can see if your opponent have the warlock spellstone if he play Emerald Reaver

Emerald Reaver: 1 Mana 2/1 Battlecry: Deal 1 damage to each hero

Instead of playing the normal animation, first is played on the enemy hero and then is played on your hero.

The Jasper Spellstone bug REALLY should be fixed before Worlds.

For those not in the know, the Druid hero power animates twice if the Druid has a spellstone in hand. This, obviously, leads to players knowing things that they shouldn't about their opponents' hands, which undermines the competitive integrity of the game. This really should be fixed before Worlds, which is the game's biggest stage and features at least 8 decks running the spellstone. Any chance we get a fix, Blizz?

Why doesn't Dead Man's Hand show the shuffling animation to the opponent anymore?

As far as I remember, [[Dead Man's Hand]] used to show the animation of cards going into the deck to both players. Now if your opponent plays DMH, you see no animation, just their deck becoming thicker.

Did Blizzard remove the animation so they could add a double animation for the Druid Hero Power with the Spellstone? /s

(How To received Hearthstone stats at the end of each month

Below is the information i received through contact support and i noticed that some people mention they don't get the hearthstone stat email even though they have checked the news box, worry not traveler that part was also answered below :)

  1. Login to your account: https://us.battle.net/account/management/
    1. Navigate to your Communication Preferences under Settings.
    2. Make sure the box next to "News and Special Offers from Blizzard" is checked.

Once you have that selected, as long as you're playing Hearthstone consistently during the month, you should start getting those emails starting the month after you sign up. If you don't play enough during the month, you just won't get the email
