We've built the most powerful Overwatch analytics engine, currently used by the Seoul Dynasty, and we're opening it up to you! (x-post from /r/overwatchuniversity)

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 11:38 AM PST

Hello r/overwatch!

TL;DR: Our team has created Visor.gg, the most accurate and comprehensive Overwatch analytics platform, and we're opening up early access to you. Sign up at visor.gg/activate and use the custom access code "OW" to skip the wait list.

Click here if you want to see Visor in action (desktop only)

Visor.gg

Visor is the most advanced Overwatch analytics engine, built to help you improve by providing personalized game data and insights on every match you play. We combine custom computer vision with machine learning to analyze and gather statistics from your matches on a frame by frame basis. Visor then takes that data and personalizes it for you, showing specific performance across key areas like ultimate management, teamwork, and individual impact. Our engine is trained on over 150 million Overwatch gameplay images, and Visor analyzes over 100,000 data points per match to surface and visualize your insights

We developed Visor in partnership with the Seoul Dynasty since the beginning of OWL and we're excited to open our Alpha to you. If you're already itching to improve, you can sign up here and use the access code "OW" or keep reading to learn more :)

How Do I Use Visor?

Visor is custom built to directly work with VOD recordings and doesn't require any additional software other than the basic ability to record your gameplay. In the future, you will also be able to stream directly to your Visor account using streaming software such as OBS.

Using Visor today is super easy:

  • Record your match using OBS or any other capture software. OBS is a free software optimized for high performance video capturing

  • Upload your recorded video to Visor after creating an account. Visor will analyze your gameplay and notify you that your match insights are ready via email

  • Analyze your matches by diving into specific insights and data on how to improve your personal gameplay. Visor highlights core areas like ultimate management, teamwork, and individual impact, and you can even watch your replays with the data visualized right underneath

What Can Visor Tell Me?

In your personal gameplay, we highlight specific strengths and weaknesses like whether you get first picks in team fights, or how quickly you charge and use your ult.

In custom games, we give you full visibility into every detail of every player including ultimate management, first picks, ult advantage tracking, team fight outcomes, player death efficiency, ult combos and more.

Here is a list of key data points and insights that Visor can instantly parse from your gameplay:

Personal gameplay insights (first person view)

  • Impact

    • Healing/min, Deaths/min, Damage/min, Elimimations/min, Final Blows/min
  • Ultimate

    • Graph of your ult charge build up and usage throughout your match
    • Ultimate Charge/min, Ultimates Used/min, Time Spent Holding Ultimate
  • Teamplay

    • Graph of every team fight overlayed with your replay
    • Summary of team fights
    • Each team's numbers advantage during the match
    • First deaths in team fights
    • First kills in team fights

Team gameplay insights (scrims view)

  • Team fight analytics

    • Team fight count and outcome (win/loss/draw)
    • Ults used individually and as a team
    • First picks and first deaths
    • Average ults combined in a team fight
    • Ult advantage over time and right before every team fight
    • Individual ult charge speed and team ult charge speed
    • Total amount of time each player spends dead or alive
  • Team Dynamics

    • Player advantage at any given time (difference in players alive on either team at any moment)
    • Team ultimate advantage at any given time (based on ult charge and not just ult count)

Visor can analyze your Comp Games, Custom games, and QP games. We fully support both first person view and spectator view as well as both PC and Console gamers.

How good is Visor, and can it really help me improve?

We have always focused on building for everyday gamers, but Visor is already being used by the best players in the world

Visor is partnered directly with the Seoul Dynasty, providing custom analytics to help them improve their training and on stage. Over the last month of our Alpha, we have been closely developing the product with the coaching staff and players on the team and incorporating their feedback. We've visited the team house in LA and are constantly improving our platform with their feedback. We also have many professional teams across OWL, Contenders, T1, and T2 using Visor everyday.

By working with the best of the best, we make sure Visor is built for the long-term and focus on ensuring that you will improve whether you play alone, with your friends, or on a team. We've spent nearly a year building Visor now, and we're super excited to invite you all into the closed Alpha!

In the end, our mission is to bring advanced, personal analytics to players all across the world and we'd love to have you join us on this journey. For bug reports, feature requests, or just to hang out, please join our Discord. We really look forward to all of your feedback and are thrilled to build Visor with everybody!

Our entire team will be here for a while to answer any questions. (Ask us anything!)

Her shield would work perfectly as a riot sheild! Her armor is already pretty light and could easily be modeled into swat gear. Please blizzard!

Why do DPS Mains expect healers to be a free kill in OW?

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 10:06 AM PST

Tl;dr: don't demand nerfs to fun supports that can defend themselves better from flankers when people barely want to go healer as it is.

Learning how Brigitte works has been fun. She's functionally a paladin which is right up my alley. And her kit screams "anti flanker back line bodyguard" which is badly needed in this "OMG why wont dive meta die" meta.

But much like Moira, a support that can defend themselves has gotten that very special subset of our community moaning and crying that she's too powerful or "does too much."

That's right boys and girls let's talk about the "supports are too powerful" whining.

It boggles my mind, when we have so few people willing to go Main tanks let alone healers, that we have people crying and salting up over a healer that can, GASP, defend themselves and isn't a free kill to their l33t MLG Ganjo or Tracer flanking!

it's hilarious but also annoying that I'm already seeing flanker players crying about a hero WHO WAS JUST ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY as being "too strong" just because her kit directly counters their "flank from behind and wreck their backline" style of play.

Between that and the near endless "Moira OP" threads on the Blizz forums, along with checking their profiles and seeing that a good 80% of the whine threads ARE from DPS Mains (the rest being Ana mains who, admittedly aren't feeling the meta love atm) I have to wonder: how can you complain about never having a healer when you're constantly demanding all the healer's to be nerfed into helpless heal bots? How is that kind of playstyle "fun" for people who want to heal?

We're seeing a great change in how support heroes operate with Moira and Brigitte bringing a lot more to the table than just healing and praying to God one of their teammates turns around gets that flanker off of them., and most importantly being FUN and APPEALING to players who maybe weren't all that keen on support heroes before.

So please, consider the ramifications of demanding nerfs for supports the next time you're complaining that nobody wants to go healer in your games.

It just came to me...Brigitte is the perfect hero for all areas of overwatch

Playing at the pro level? Anti dive support. Defends herself, and her heal pack can keep an ally from being picked off early. This also works in a dive comp, as she's able to spread her healing among the mobile heroes, as well as keep up a far off dps

Low skill? She's super easy to play, doesn't require much aim and her healing is simple.

More skilled? You can use her shield bash to get away or get to interesting spots, not to mention those sick rocket flail shots

Playing comp? Her utility works well on practically any comp. She has a tool for all situations

Playing quickplay and nobody cares? She works as both a healer AND a tank on those pesky 5 dps comps.

Want to have a wildly powerful push? Want to defend the point and your whole team to keep them alive? Her ult does it all

Want to dps, but your team needs a healer? Not to worry, her healing is automatic

There were holes in niches that the game had no heroes to fill, and with one hero, they somehow managed to fill most of them.

Really impressive on blizzard's part

Brigitte's Golden Weapon... Shield TOO PLZ!

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 08:02 AM PST

Blizzard,

First and foremost, Brigitte is amazing! Her kit has the perfect amount of utility and she will be really refreshing to the meta.

With that out of the way.... Please Please PLEASE let her golden weapon skin extend to her shield as well! I know this would be a precedent for shield heroes (i.e. Reinhart's non-gold shield), but Brigette has more physical material on her shield, where Rein's is mostly hard light.

I can't wait to see all of her cosmetic items. You've made a lot of support and tank mains alike happy this week. Thanks for the hard work!

Tad bit of clarification: Gold Flail (obviously)..... and Gold Shield = ONLY metal components, not the hard light (blue) aspects of the barrier.

Thanks for the upvotes and visibility!

Question for a high school computer science project

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 07:04 AM PST

Dear Overwatch subreddit,

I am a high school student in Ontario, Canada, and for a computer science project, we are tasked with contacting someone outside of Canada in the computer science field to ask some questions about what their job entails. I'm hopeful that maybe developers from my favourite games may respond

If somebody from the Overwatch team, or anybody working in the computer science field, could answer these questions, I would be ecstatic.

  1. What does a typical work day look for you? What responsibilities or roles do you take on? Do you get to play games on the job?

  2. How do you think your work impacts the environment (positive, negative)? What is being done at Blizzard, or your job/company specifically, to help preserve the environment?

  3. What was your academic background? What did you do before working at your company? How did you get your job at your company?

The project also requires proof that you work in the computer science industry.

Thank you so much for your time.

Yours truly,

A hopeful high school student
