[Megathread] Saw DLC

Posted: 22 Jan 2018 05:54 AM PST

Does what it says on the tin. This is the handy-dandy all-purpose thread, which is centered around the latest DLC pack. So if you've got questions, bug reports, comments, or anything of the sort, this here is the place to post 'em.

Overview

The Saw Chapter is the seventh Chapter DLC for Dead by Daylight, released on Janurary 22-23rd, 2018. It adds Amanda Young as a new Killer, David Tapp as a new Survivor and Gideon Meat Plant as a new map.

Killer - The Pig (Amanda Young)

Power - Jigsaw's Baptism

Forever devoted to her master's cause, she punished the ungrateful and the guilty with slyness and murderous puzzles. The Pig can move stealthily, dash in ambush attacks and put deadly Reverse Bear Traps on Survivors' heads.

Use the Secondary Power interaction to assume a crouching position. While crouching:

  • The Pig has no Terror Radius.
  • Activate the attack interaction to dash and perform an ambush attack.

Start the trial with 4 Reverse Bear Traps:

  • Reverse Bear Traps are put on Dying Survivors.
  • Reverse Bear Traps automatically sacrifice the survivor when they trigger.
  • Reverse Bear Traps trigger automatically beyond the Exit Gates.
  • Reverse Bear Traps trigger once their timers expire.
  • Reverse Bear Traps timer start when a generator is completed.
  • Survivors can free themselves from Reverse Bear Traps by searching Jigsaw Boxes found around the map to find the correct key.

Perks

  • Hangman's Trick - Your ingenious modifications to Hooks prevent tampering and permanent damage. Hooks destroyed by sabotage or sacrifices repair automatically after 30 seconds. Gain a notification when someone starts sabotaging the Hooks.

  • Surveillance - Unlocks potential in one's aura reading ablity. The last 1 regressing generator's auras are indicated in white to you for 16 seconds.

  • Make Your Choice - When a Survivior rescues another from a hook at least 48 meters away from you, Make Your Choice triggers and applies the Exposed Status Effect on the rescuer for 60 seconds. Make Your Choice has a cooldown of 60 seconds.

Survivor - Detective Tapp

Perks

  • Tenacity - There is nothing stopping you. Your ferocious tenacity in dire situations allows you to craw 30% faster and recover at the same time.

Just imagine it. You just spawned onto coldwind farm. You start repairing the generator in the corn field. You see some rustling in the corn. A crouched figure. Suddenly Nea jumps out at you. Truly chilling.

I'm surprised we don't have an actual graveyard themed map yet.

Autohaven Wreckers doesn't count. I like the unique maps that go along with the killers but I feel like we should still have some more traditional locations.

The Origin of the Huntress (aka Anna)

Posted: 22 Jan 2018 05:59 AM PST

TL;DR The Huntress should live somewhere here from about 1885 (birth) and 1919 (abduction throught entity/disappereance).

So as I was digging throught some posts on this subreddit, I found a pretty interesting discussion: some people where wondering where exactly the Huntress comes from. So I decided to researched a bit for myself. (No it can't be the Red Forest in Ukraine, as it was called this only after the Tschernobyl accident in 1986, I will cover soon why)

We learn a lot more of Anna's origin story than you would think.

  • collapsing Russian Empire meaning, she lived in the territory of the Russian Empire. Depeding on how you interpret "collapsing" you can guess a timespan from 1905 ("bloody sunday" and January Revolutions)

  • Once the war was over -> she still lived during either WW1 or WW2, but as the Russian Empire still exists (but is collapsing) we can conclude it has to be WW1 (1914-1918)

  • Once the war was over, the rumors of The Huntress disappeared with it, engulfed by the Red Forest. So Anna was abducted by the Entity shortly after WW1 (so we can guess shortly after 1918). As Anna is still pretty young looking, but definitely a full-grown woman, I would guess her age to be between approximately 18 and 30 at the point of abduction, so she was probably born between 1885 and 1900) We got her age, hooray! And this is the reason it can't be the Red Forest in Ukraine

Next up is a more closer approximation to her place of origin.

  • We already know she lived in the territory of the Russian Empire

  • German soldiers began to pass through which means it defenitely is in the eastern territories (the German Empire is on the western side of the Russian Empire)

So we know about what places she could live in, but there are even more hints in her story: the wildlife she hunts!

  • Her origin story tells that she hunted squirrels and hares and mink and foxes and more dangerous animals like wolves and bears and the elk which killed Anna's mother.

Whats really special about this is that she hunts minks, because (European) minks are critically endangered as their population began to shrink in the 19th century. This means she had to live in an area in which mink lived. (So pretty much somehwere here )

As squirrels, hares and foxes are all pretty widespread in Europe in general, the next animal I had a look into was the elk. One thing you have to notice here, is the word "elk". On the one hand "Elk" is the common word for Cervus canadensis or Wapiti (the North American Elk) and on the other hand for Alces alces or Moose for the European Elk! We're talking Moose right here!

This means we can cut down our map even more if we add the territory in which moose live and European Brown Bears (Ursus arctos) and the borders & attack routes in WW1 from the Central Powers against the Russian Empire, we get this. The countries inside this ellipsis are Latvia, Estonia and the eastern border of Belarus and of course Russia (on today's map).

Her real (cyrillic) name is Анна. Aside from Russia, the only of the 4 countries natively writing in cyrillic is Belarus, but it can very well be that the regions of Latvia and Estonia were forced to change to use Russian when they were part of the Russian Empire (Maybe natives can confirm?), but we can't be totally sure.

I think this is the closest we can get as her add-ons dont really give us much information.

I think I did a pretty good job (so far) with analyzing her story. If you find any more information that could help, feel free to post it and I will have a look!

Today is an excellent day for some fresh, new DLC. Here’s why.

Posted: 22 Jan 2018 04:53 AM PST

Good morning, everyone... specifically developers of Dead by Daylight. In fact, GREAT morning to the devs. Such a great morning to you. Mediocre morning to the rest of you.

There are a few outstanding reasons that you should release the new chapter today. In case you didn't know already, I'll list them.

On this date, Jan. 22, in history...

  1. In 1689, England's "Bloodless Revolution" reached its climax when parliament invited William and Mary to become joint sovereigns. Screams DLC.

  2. 1879; Eighty-two British soldiers hold off attacks by 4,000 Zulu warriors at the Battle of Rorke's Drift in South Africa. This shouts DLC. Imagine hanging 4,000 teabagging Zulu warriors.

  3. 1905; Russian troops fire on civilians beginning Bloody Sunday in St. Petersburg. Hello? DLC.

  4. Most importantly, however, is the birth of Sir Francis Bacon, English philosopher, statesman, essayist in 1561. It says bacon!

You hearing me, McGoat? -taps foot impatiently-

EDIT: IT WORKED! Posted 7 minutes before release. Remember this day, boys, I'm a shaman of great power. EEEEHEHEHE!
