[SC] Updated Benchmarks 12.12.2017

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 03:09 AM PST

Hello everyone,

This patch didn't have major balance changes. However, the main changes this patch were: Vulnerability, Distortion and some adjustments to Condition Damage. You can see most of the class changes below that we felt were important to highlight in this recent patch. While capping Vulnerability is still easily achievable on almost all encounters it is not as easy as before.

Distortion

Inspiring Distortion now shares Aegis without internal cooldown instead of distortion. This is a buff and nerf at the same time depending on the encounter. The main issue with this is at Vale Guardian, however with Stone Spirit and a Harrier Druid you can easily out-heal the green explosion. Gorseval remains unchanged as Aegis happily replaces the distortion to prevent the KD from his slam and you can even have a better rotation as chrono now allowing you to distort eggs. As for Deimos, this encounter has changed a little as you just need to make sure you are only inside one of the pizza slices during his KD attack. This goes on for every old boss where distortion used to be a thing and we have the more specific changes on the mesmer guide.

Class Specific Changes

Ranger

Condition Druid

Changes to torch skills that impacted its burst potential, shifted the meta from Quickdraw to Light on your Feet. Ramp up time is much faster and due to the burst potential it has, makes Quickdraw redundant in every iteration of condition-based build.

Power Druid

Buffs to GS skills merely leveled the playing field, and made it a competitive choice in longer fights where extra CA is generated via multiple glyph procs. Due to the low burst nature, and extremely slow CA generation in low pressure fights, this is not a recommended weapon for every encounter, but it can be used as a niche pick. Changes to vulnerability in this patch shifted FoTM meta towards Power-based builds, and Storm Spirit became mandatory which resulted in more CC for Druids overall.

Condition Soulbeast

We can finally cap Bleeding via 3 Spiteful Infusions. Rotation remained the same, ramp up time is slightly longer, but overall DPS didn't change.

Power Soulbeast

Don't get too excited just yet. While a lot of Druids seem to be thriving because of the Power-based build meta, we're sorry to say that Bearbow will not be visiting PvE just yet. While these buffs are showing a great future for Power Soulbeast, we'll have to wait for another patch before we start using this build. Outside of the initial burst, this build doesn't have that much to offer, and is falling behind other Power builds by not so marginal difference.

Elementalist

Power Weaver

Most notable patch change is the removal of Weak Spot which hurt our vulnerability application outside of Glyph of Storms, Frost Volley and Primordial Stance. This doesn't affect Raids at all though, it's mostly in Fractals where it matters. Other non recent patch changes are improvements to the same build such as Ice Bow and Lightning Hammer appear to be mostly equal to each other, with Lightning Hammer having a higher damage potential but more RNG and Ice Bow having a more consistent damage output especially on bigger hitboxes compared to Lightning Hammer. The question of Lightning Hammer vs Ice Bow comes down to rotational problems with one of the 2 conjures, the previously mentioned vuln application (for example on KC) and shifts in enemy toughness as seen on VG.

Guardian

Power Dragonhunter Nothing changed.

Condition Firebrand They only changed that your axe auto-attack is slightly faster now and buffed Purging Flames. This patch does not change anything big dps wise for Firebrand, so you can reach the exactly same numbers as pre patch. Also the axe auto attack changes does not change your rotation at all.

But you are able to min max your Build now, with using 3 Spiteful Infusions to cap Burning Duration.

Revenant

Condition Renegade Nothing changed for Condition Renegade on this Patch. We just added Invocation Benchmarks and Benchmarks for Big Hitboxes. We compared 18 Malign vs 18 Spiteful Infusions on Golem and also 9 Malign and 9 Spiteful Infusions, but we ended up with the same DPS on each variant. So it doesn't matter which setup your are running.

Mesmer

Power Chronomancer With the introduction of Mystical Infusions Chronomancers optimal raid gear changed. This affects personal DPS by around 2%. Also with changing distortion share to give Aegis and not distortion, Domination/Inspiration is not the go to build on every boss it used to be before. This specific change makes especially Vale Guardian a more druid related fight since you can't distort the green anymore but it can be outheal.

Condition Mirage The axe ambush got buffed and brought the mirage back to being a dps spec. The clone build is now again the better of the 2 builds. The change in condition ramp up didn't affect mirage at all. With the new Spiteful infusions it's now possible to cap condi duration but also makes it a nightmare to gear up a mirage since 18 spiteful infusion are needed on clone mirage but not phantasm mirage.

Engineer

Condition Engineer With the possible Spiteful infusion and the changes to Tools, condition engineer's dps got a slight buff. The condition rump up changes only affected 2 skills which in the end didn't change much.

Power Holosmith It received a power option in its Firearms trait granting extra Ferocity. This change increased Holosmith's solo dps at the cost of Pinpoint Distribution.

Thief

Condition Thief Condi Thief remains unchanged and continues to excel on bosses it was previously taken for.

Power Thief Power Thief, while not receiving a buff, is considerably less clunky to play due to the change to Weakening Charge. As it now no longer moves through the target, it can be used with target and without the need to constantly face downward with the camera.

SnowCrows.com

We are currently working on our Wing 5 guides, but clearly these take time to figure out the optimal tactics for each encounter. We have updated our team compositions for each encounter and you can find that here.

While "grinded" benchmarks do not represent the real state of the "raiding meta", they still reflect the maximum potential of a particular build. For this very reason we will continue to have some of our best players work on the DPS Golem to showcase the peak performance of each of the nine professions. However, we have also made an effort to find the most realistic numbers for each build present on our website, without intensive grinding. That way, the average raider will have a relatable number to aim for when practicing their rotation.

We also have a Discord server which can be found here. There you will be able to discuss and ask questions about our website, our builds and the guides. It's also a great way to contact members from SC!

Finally, if you are new to raids and wish to learn, you will find on our website a section dedicated to two awesome communities: The Crossroads Inn [EU] and Guild Wars 2 Raid Academy [NA]. Do not hesitate to join them if you're eager to learn Guild Wars 2's raids.

Have fun !

GW2 Raids: Solo Escort

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 05:52 PM PST

From the guy who brought you solo escort towers comes solo escort!

https://imgur.com/a/uDAYa

I had to redact a few things...but I did leave enough hints in.

Q&A:

1.) Why didn't you take a video? Much like the solo Cairn, duo Vale Guardian, and other super low-man raids, this took ages to do. Between having to deal with the drop in FPS, the filesize of a video with such a long duration, and the idea of editing such a long video, I decided it wasn't worth it.

2.) Where are the waves of White Mantle mobs? I utilized what pugs on NA are calling the "tent method." (You can't make this nonsense up.) You pull Glenna behind the first tent when she crosses the initial bridge, and wait out the White Mantle waves. They spawn and run to the start of the bridge. After 7 waves, they stop spawning. Completely silly in pugs, but useful in a solo.

3.) How did Glenna survive the wargs? See the album. This wasn't redacted, at least not all of it.

4.) How did you kill McLeod when he split into two colors? When he splits, he is immune to damage from unlike colors, but he is not immune to lifesteal. I used a combination of Vampiric aura and combo finishers in dark fields. Also I stopped taking photos after McLeod split the first time and I got the second color down 10% because at that point I had enough proof that soloing escort is possible. I don't hate myself enough to spend 3 hours fighting McLeod.

I'm happy to share details regarding the various bugs used in this solo should any devs ask me for it, but I won't bother submitting a bug report because the in game bug report system has become a meme at this point.

Cheers!

Question about the snow in wing 5

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:03 PM PST

After spending WAY too long inside Hall of Chains I realized one thing, at some point in the raid the snow changes.

Now I'm not sure if this is right before Dhuum or after killing Dhuum, but when we enter the snow inside the raid stands more or less still in the air, after this "point" the snow starts flowing upwards.

Is there any lore behind this or is it some sort of an easter egg?

[Research] Average Loot Value of Wintersday Gifts explained

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 07:10 AM PST

Yesterday, someone posted a video of opening 50k Wintersday gifts on /r/gw2economy and I took some time to summarize and group the drops to get a better idea of where the average value of wintersday gifts comes from.

You can find the related discussion here.

As most of you only care about the bottom line, I will copy/paste the numbers at the end of this post.

First some basic info:

  • Gifts opened: 50k

  • each gift has 2 drops (items on the rare or super rare loot table might be additional 3rd drops)

  • 107462 items in total (2 drops give 50 instead of 1 item)

  • Total worth: 1,502g 71s 12c based on buy order prices from yesterday (16th of Dec.)

  • Average value per gift based on those prices: 3.0s

Conclusions

The 3s is probably alot less than some players anticipated but this value should be taken with a grain of salt.

One reason is that the poster of the video used buy order prices, if you use lowest listing values, that average value will rise quite a bit. I didnt calculate the difference with sell listings prices but I estimate it to be around 20-30% higher. If someone wants to do a spreadsheet, so we can see the difference based on live prices, it would be appreciated, tagging /u/gayest_charr_ever, maybe they feel like doing it.

You will also notice that the Gift-Opener didnt receive any infusions, Snow Diamond or Winters Heart. As these are high value items (500-700g), a single drop will raise the average value of each gift quite a bit. Even over a sample size of 50k gifts, a single drop would raise it by 1-1.4s per gift.

This is always a problem with containers that have high value items on their loot table with low droprates.

You basically always make a personal loss opening gifts compared to just selling them on the tp until you get one of those lucky drops and the average value you got out of your gifts spikes significantly.

But as this sample of 50k shows, your chance of getting one of those lucky drops from the amount of gifts you farm on a daily basis, are pretty low.

So apart from the high value drops, where does the average value come from?

The bulk of it comes from the 3 different beverages, eggnog, buttered spirits and apple cider, which are needed for the festive imbiber achievement for Winters Presence.

Each beverage accounts for more than 18% of the total value, combined, they account for 55%.

Snowflakes still make up 10% of the total value with a droprate of ~67% from each gift.

Sigils of Mischief account for 7.1% of the total value.

Then there are several drops that account for 1-5% of the total value:

  • Candy Canes (4.26%)

  • Linseed Oil (4.18%)

  • Charged Quartz (3.69%)

  • Quartz Crystals (2.68%)

  • Mini Tiny Angry Snowball (2.27%)

  • Tin of Fruitcake (2.16%)

  • Enchanted Snow Diamond Box (1.46%)

  • Peppermint Omnomberry Bar (1.4%)

  • Tuning Icicle (1%)

A single drop of a Snow Diamond Infusion would account for 31.8% of the total value (and the % of all other drops would go down accordingly), a single Winters Heart Infusion would account for 25% of the total value.

A recipe for Light of Dwayna would still account for 4.33% of the total value.

Let me know, if you have any questions.

Here are the numbers:

Can anyone shed light on this class icon I encountered

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 05:21 PM PST

I saw this strange class icon on a character in WvW. I didnt screenshot it thinking i missed something in the patchnotes and thought the guy was either a re-worked renegade or dragon hunter icon. I wasnt able to properly see the guy in the middle of the zerg and didnt think much on it. But now I have checked all my characters and i dont see any icon changes.

Purchases that felt extravagant at the time that now feel like a bargain?

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 07:44 AM PST

I'm not so much talking about that skin that was super cheap for awhile and is now worth thousands of gold; more things that still cost now what they did then, but that you once flinched at the price and now don't even blink because it is/was so, so worth it.

Copper-fed Salvage-o-matic is an obvious one - it felt like a frivolous luxury when I picked it up from the gemstore, but my God. Couldn't live without it now.

Another one for me was the SAB home cat - I tried for ages to get it myself, then finally posted an offer in LFG to pay someone 10g to carry that stupid fish through the cleared instance, dropping it at my feet in front of the cat. 10g felt like a huge amount at the time. In retrospect, for me personally having the complete collection is worth considerably more than that, and 10g was a bargain.
