Pocket Guide to HiRez Expo Posted: 03 Dec 2017 05:02 PM PST Hello everyone, Wraithyn here. Some of you may know me from Twitter, Twitch, HiRezTV, and the guy with the lowest damage and wards in your ranked games. The rest of you are probably wondering who the hell I am. It doesn't matter -- I'm here to guide you through your HRX experience so you can milk the most out of this awesome event. This guide will contain everything... General tips and tricks, places to eat, things to do, transportation recommendations, etc. to ensure you enjoy the Expo to the fullest. As a background I have the fortune of living about a mile and a half from the Expo, so the surrounding area is basically my back yard. I've lived here for a few years now, and I think I have a pretty good handle on the best things to do. First of all, welcome to Atlanta. ARRIVAL AND TRANSPORTATION: Atlanta airport is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the country. If you can get away with a carry-on bag, I strongly suggest that you do so-- especially if you are NOT flying Delta. Atlanta is Delta's Hub, and none of the other airlines here give a shit about their flights in and out of here. If you are Ubering, which you should, the Uber pick up zone is about a 15 minute walk from Baggage Claim with a further 10-15 minute wait for a car. Make sure you have a jacket handy in case you are waiting in the cold. Uber-- Do NOT rent a car unless there is something extremely specific that you and a large group of friends want to go do. Uber down here is CHEAP (5-8$ a ride) and the hassle of having a car, being responsible for it for 5 days, and needing to find parking, paying 50-100$ a day, etc. just sucks ass. I nearly sold my car earlier this year because I Uber everywhere. 90% of the time if you're over the age of 20 you're going to have access to alcohol whether it's in the event, at dinner, and afterparties. Having a car is a hassle. I'm personally ubering everywhere and I live here. Public Transport: Atlanta public transport sucks in this area. Can't really help you here. GENERAL TIPS AND GUIDELINES FOR THE EVENT: HRX is chock full of stuff to do, there's the main stage where the big games are played, an expo hall, food court / beer and wine, food trucks. Everything you need for the day is there. Bring a Jacket --- never know when you're going to have to walk home in the cold. Last year it iced over and a bunch of people had no transportation option to get back to their hotels. Buy yourself a portable battery pack (or two) -- Battery % is king during these events. Pictures, tweets, texts, videos, etc. are going to suck the life out of your battery and you'll want a fully charged phone for the night's events. Keep cash on you at all times -- there's food trucks, vendors offering huge in-person discounts, and loads of other things to spend cash on. One vendor last year had an issue with their POS system 3 days in a row -- cash is king. Keep a healthy budget to spend while you're here. Keep an eye on Twitter -- there are dozens of community meetups for streamers, SPL / Paladins Teams and players, afterparties, and many of them pop up at the last minute. Make sure you're following your favorite Pros and Streamers on all the social medias. Many of them actually come to the event with swag for their fans, so get in on it! Say Hello! -- Always reach out and say hello to the folks you want to meet, don't be nervous. HiRez Employees and Community personalities love meeting their fans/players, and are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Note: You CAN approach Weak3n but don't turn your back on him when he has anything sharp in his hands. Get out and EXPLORE ATLANTA!!!! Atlanta is an amazing town with tons to do. There's tons of great food, culture, and activities and downtown Atlanta is only 15 minutes away. Don't be the guy that orders the same room service burger every night from the hotel and drinks 15$ cocktails in the lobby bar until you get sleepy. THE FOOD Atlanta is a town of culture, there's SO MANY good restaurants here, and I highly advise you make it to as many of the places I list below. I'll add a brief blurb about each place. Some of the "Typical Atlanta Spots" Are really just shitty restaurants that were good 20 years ago and now ride their fame (The Varsity, for example, sucks.) TOP SPOTS: These are Must-Hit places to visit while you're here. Mostly going to be Lunch / Dinner spots, and none of these are within walking distance of HRX. 1 -- Battle and Brew -- http://www.battleandbrew.com/ -- $$-$$$ -- 5920 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs Now under new management, the new-and-improved Battle and Brew is 10x better than it has been in the past. They've simplified their menu, their service is improving, and the new owners are committed to making it the best gaming bar in the country. Several Atlanta gaming personalities are now running the place, and it is THE place to go after the events of the day are over. On any given night you are definitely going to find people here from HRX, and this is always a great go-to spot. They're going to be offering several promotional nights and events during HRX for HRX ticket holders, so stay tuned. Mention the code "Wraithyn" at the door, and everyone will look at you funny. 2 -- South City Kitchen -- http://vinings.southcitykitchen.com/ -- $$$-$$$$-- South City Kitchen, Vinings GA Best authentic Southern Food in Atlanta hands down. Pricey menu, but if you're from a different corner of the country or world and want to see what "American Southern Food" is all about -- this is your spot. Open for Dinner. 3 -- Jinya Ramen Bar -- https://jinya-ramenbar.com/ -- $-$$ -- 5975 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs REAL Authentic Japanese Ramen. This place is AWESOME and affordable. Battle and Brew is across the street for an after dinner drink. Downside is limited seating -- call ahead, or plan for a 30-45 minute wait (it's worth it.) 4 -- The Sundial (Somewhere downtown) $$$$$ If you want to spend a shitload of money but have an unforgettable dining experience 78 floors above Atlanta with a 360 degree view of the city, call ahead and head to the Sundial 5 -- Cafe Intermezzo (Midtown, Atlanta) $$ Best place for a late night drink. Open till 2 AM, porch seating, best damn dessert in the country. 6 -- Heirloom Market BBQ is just around the corner. It's one of the best food experiences in Atlanta - Korean BBQ meets Southern BBQ. It's around the $10-15 price range for a big ass meal you both will and won't regret eating. Not quite in walking distance, but it's just around the corner. Seriously one of the best places in the state. 7 -- Fat Matt's BBQ -- Best authentic Southern-BBQ in Atlanta (In my opinion.) 8-- Wahlburgers -- Battery Park -- Great burgers. LOCAL FARE: Locations near the event with decent food. Usually we don't venture too far as the games are GREAT and the Food Trucks usually suffice, however, some people DO like to venture out and get a quick bite nearby. Not going to bother with addresses, just google it. Most of these are in the $-$$ price range. GRUB BURGER -- Great damn burger. Top Spice Thai -- Decent Thai Bowl Lab -- Authentic Hawaiian Poke-Bowls, very good. On the lighter side LongHorn Steakhouse -- It's a steakhouse. Hooters-- Really...? Zoe's Kitchen Firehouse Subs -- Decent Sandwiches Chick-Fil-A Chipotle Taco Mac -- good bar food, quick lunch Stockyard Burger -- Better burgers than Grub but further away Another Broken Egg Cafe -- AMAZING breakfast. 10/10. If you wake up early enough for Breakfast / Brunch, stop by here. Usually a wait on the weekends though. Orient Express -- Hibachi Place Meehan's Publick House -- Irish Bar food FIGO Pasta -- Fast Pasta OTHER THINGS TO DO: Have some free time before your favorite team plays and want to check out something distinctly Atlanta-ian? Here's just a few suggestions: The Georgia Aquarium -- Largest single tank in the world, an absolutely amazing sight to see. We have yearly passes here, and it's worth every penny. Do this if nothing else. World of Coca Cola -- Coke's "Coca Cola History Museum" Botanical Garden -- Not sure how it is in the winter but I'm sure it's nice. Never been but heard good things. National Center for Civil and Human Rights -- VERY moving museum. College Football Hall of Fame Delta Flight Museum -- History of Delta Airlines and Aviation Skyview Atlanta -- Giant Ferris Wheel that overlooks much of Atlanta. They serve beer. That's what I've got for now! Can we have a role call system similar to other MOBAS. Posted: 03 Dec 2017 08:16 AM PST I recently went to a friend's house and he showed me League Of Legends, and one thing that got my eye was the fact that you can choose which role you actually want. This can actually solve so many problems about role calling in smite, I can't stress the fact: that I've been in so many games in which calling roles goes completely chaotic. Now of course this can lead to longer ques, but I honestly don't mind having this, choosing between 2 roles to play would also make this a lot smoother. I tend to play mid or support so I don't mind going those roles, it basically makes everything smoother and calmer. If Hi-rez is still not too found of the idea, they can at least give us the option to either choose which role we want for longer ques, or just simply go to the fast-chaotic ques. Thoughts? Odyssey Help Posted: 03 Dec 2017 06:39 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm a US soldier currently deployed overseas. Our base just aquired a limited internet connection, and I would like to buy some items from the Odyssey this year. After looking around I saw that you could buy gems online, but I couldn't figure out how to buy in game items. Sadly, I can't access the game client, no personal computer, and I'm trying to find out if it's possible to buy skins outside of the game. I know this isn't really the place to ask, but I sent several support tickets to Hirez and I haven't gotten a response. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
