Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:07 PM PST

In this weekly thread you can discuss the Defense roles of Overwatch to your heart's delight. What are the characteristics of those heroes?

The main objective of the defense role is to guard locations, create choke points, and establish a front. They may have long range weapons or the ability to create turrets, and excel at area denial.

Overwatch Wikia

You can find a list of the current defensive heroes on the Overwatch Hero Overview.

Share guides and strategies that are valuable to a defensive Overwatch Hero or other tips and tricks that helped you to get better. You can also propose ideas why a certain hero is bad in your eyes and how to make it better. Please do so in a constructive way!

Junkrat should have quotes when his RIP Tire was eliminated

Junkrat is a character who talks a lot. It's not like him for not saying anything when his best weapon was destroyed with a loud clanging noise.

Just had a guy intentionally abuse the report system to help get a one-trick banned mid-game. Then he laughed about it.

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:38 AM PST

Among other things, there are two core things to take away from this:
1. Banning needs to not happen mid-game. Ever.
2. Serious punishment needs to be handed out to people that are found to be intentionally abusing the report system.

Story time.
Just got out of a ~4200 game where we had a one-trick Sym. I see them all the time, but I almost never play with them, so neat. Now one-tricks aren't super fun to play with, but the guy is GM (though barely), so it will be fine. Probably. Maybe.
Two teammates (Guy #1 and Guy#2) immediately start cussing him out in /all chat. One opponent suggests that one tricks should all kill themselves. A third teammate (T500 this time) (Guy#3) chimes in to say how he's tired of 'one tricks ruining his games'. Guy#1 says he's reported him already and Guy#2 agrees.
I mention that one-tricking is not bannable. He says, and I quote, "oh i know", "i report them on sight anyways".
Intentional report abuse. I silently reported him on the spot. The game has still has not even started.

Fast forward a bit, and we aren't doing well (Hollywood attack) for a ton of reasons. We're waiting on Guy#3 so we can try to push as six, but he tells us to wait a second because he's reporting the Sym (whom was doing more than most of our team). Note that the Sym is doing decently well given the circumstances, and despite being mute.
A few "K"'s are had and we patiently wait. The Sym suddenly leaves. Turns out, there's a 99% chance he got banned automatically.

Everyone starts thinking the Sym just left. After Guy#3 explains that the sym left right as he put in his report, it's determined to be due to an automatic ban. All four of these degenerates start losing their shit.
Lots of LOL, c9, zxc9z9, xdXDXD, monkaS, and all that stupidity idiots love to spam, are had by them. Guy#1 is literally laughing hysterically in his mic. Authentically. After he calmed down, his final words (in /all chat) regarding the one-trick were, "shame he wasnt lynched", "good riddance though".
One of them jokingly suggests they report the Sym, but I couldn't tell if their mild agreement was sarcasm or not.
As we go into Defense, we agree to just draw the game. Three of them (I muted Guy#1) continued to talk about how one tricks ruin the game and need to be permabanned. We draw, concluding one of the most fucking disgusting matches I've ever played.

I'd like to note that all four of those... "people".. ... were all on alt accounts.
Many, many detailed reports were made that game. Several of them I felt the need to report multiple times, for different reasons, because of their multifaceted toxicity. Hopefully their punishments will be swift, and most importantly, actually happen.
Truly a wonderful experience this game is.

Made the wife a Torbjorn turret for Xmas

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 04:53 PM PST

Last year around the holidays, I bought my wife a gaming computer and a copy of Overwatch. In the year since then, she's accumulated 178 hours hammering turrets together. Over the last few months a friend and I (mostly the friend) 3D printed and assembled a Torb turret. Model available here. We presented it to here this afternoon as an early Xmas gift, she's thrilled with it.

We modified the original design and ran a strip of LED lights around the interior of the top, which can light up in about a dozen different color. The interior is also made of glow-in-the-dark filament instead of the normal yellow filler.

TLDR : Made Torb turret, won wife points.
