Best heroes for Io Aghs tether?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:40 PM PST

Hey everyone,

Who do you think are the best heroes to pick with Io to utilise the Aghs tether talent the best. I was thinking Zeus would be the best since nimbus has a long cooldown, but the only downside is that after you are stuck tethered to a Zeus.

Are there other heroes who really benefit from this?

The Offlane 7.07

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:44 AM PST

Just wondering about people's thoughts on the offlane. This patch I have found very difficult to get my head around (since 7.07 but inc the mini patches). I play mainly 3,4 and 5 roles.

If you're the offlaner what is your job in this patch generally? I find solo off lane difficult to farm and stay in lane when they have a babysitting support (in my tier they generally do). When you can't contest effectively the support/carry deny so much creeps you're not even getting xp advantage. So what do you?

Also sometimes at my mmr bracket you'll have a roamer who'll soak up xp for a few levels before going off to roam but clearly that compounds matters although you have the advantage that unless they're completely stupid you should be able to at least contest farm.

Appreciate any pointers / advice or indeed just a summary of your thoughts on the offlane post 7.07.

Increasing DK's tankiness?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 01:20 PM PST

I see on dotabuff Armlet and Cuirass are the go-to's to boost DK's armor, with blade mail following behind.

Far down the list of use are things like crimson guard, and lotus orb. they both boost both armor and health regen, is there a reason for their lack of popularity?

Best heroes to abuse in low MMR because people don't know what they do?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 11:13 AM PST

I'm not necessarily talking about "best to spam and gain MMR" here. But I do get a certain amount of enjoyment from playing rarely-seen heroes and at least doing decently. Your teammates seem to have more fun when it goes well with those kinds of heroes, too. So, hoping a few experienced players are willing to make a case for their favorite niche characters.

This is for semi-serious play - might play some ranked with them if it goes well, but sometimes not. Mostly going for the enjoyability factor. I'm willing to put in a fair number of games to learn, but probably not if it takes 200 matches to become halfway decent (sorry Earth Spirit). Some micro is OK, but I'd prefer to avoid the super-intense micro. The more solo impact, the better, obviously, as this is in and around 1k.

A couple I've enjoyed so far are Brewmaster (lost first 10 games, 66% WR since) as well as Batrider, although at this level he seems to get pretty useless in the late game. I like Visage but everyone seems to think he is strictly a position 5 support at this level and behaves accordingly.

Is LD worth learning at all? He's one that I've always thought looked fun to play and can fill a few different roles - but his winrate is such garbage that it seems like there must be something fundamentally wrong with him right now.

why do people hold a skill point?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 06:59 AM PST

I get it for the first point because you want to see how your lane or early fights end up. But does i'm thinking about heroes that hold the point at 6 (wk w/ reincarnation, abba w/ borrowed time, etc). I mean you're not getting any value out of that point doing nothing.

For example, let's say i hit level 6 with wk and i'm in lane. Why not just put it in reincarnation if you're not going to skill it in something else until you're close to level 7, where's the value in that as you went through a whole level without that skill point.

I feel like the question makes sense in my head but hopefully it does here.

What can I take away from a high stress game with a flamer?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 08:19 PM PST

Link to the game: https://www.opendota.com/matches/3612927604/overview

The Tinker, from minute 1 was just raging hardcore at everyone for everything. You can look at the game all chat for a small sample of the milder stuff he was saying, he was just constantly flaming everyone on our team.

I don't know why, but this rattled me a lot. Especially on anti-mage, very much a comfort hero for me I enjoy playing. I had a garbage lane, a garbage mid game where I made a lot of mistakes farming alone with no vision, being caught out alone, and just basically not being able to avoid the bloodseeker hunting me. All in all I consider this was a very poorly played game on my part. From a more objective outside view, is there any good to take from a game like this? I mean, it was literally a win, but I feel like mentally it was a loss. Just because of how much the toxic player affected me when they shouldn't have. I don't even know if I won because I was anti-mage in a 60 minute game or if the tinker just slowly chipped them away.

What's a stuipdly strong lane to make morphling pickers suffer

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 02:03 PM PST

In order to counter morphling, I ended up with a cent+undying offlane against pudge+morphling. We would get both w's first and take off half of morphling's health every 5s. He ended up laning with full str for 10 mins and got 16 lasthits at 10 mins. What are some other lanes to shut down morph?

how do you have an impact as disruptor?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:51 PM PST

I like him and i have some cool hats so i wana play him but im not sure how to have an impact, im used to playing very strong laning supports who can turn into cores or have an impact throughout the game, silencer, enchantress, kotl, etc.

in low mmr should i max q first and spam it? Tortes guide suggests maxing glimpse first but idk, the damage might be more useful in low mmr, What do i get for mana and items in general? Is ruptor a strong laner?

What could I have done In this game againt a smurf?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 09:15 AM PST

Just played a game vs a smurf, who litterly steamrolled this game easily. We found out hes a smurf in the start of the picking phase, a guy goes on his dotabuff and says "This guy has less than 100 games, 71% winrate, and is stomping all his games"

I was roaming as earth spirit, tried to apply preassure level 1, but couldnt manage to kill him, felt like we do nothing, so I leave mid to go safelane and get kills there. And then he started getting kills and xp and next thing we know he is steamrolling us and winning the game easily.

What could I have done? Im earth spirit, smurf is playing sf

Shuffling ward in quickcast setting

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:06 PM PST

Hi, I'm fairly new to dota (156hrs) with no other moba background. I sometimes play support when nobody pick it. Lately I've been tinkering with quickast but I noticed I can no longer shuffle the sentry and obs ward in inventory by doubleclick the shortcut. How can I do that in quickcast setting?

How to climb from lower ranks?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 10:28 AM PST

I made a mistake with my current account, as I calibrated too soon and didn't wait to improve my skills before playing ranked games. Anyway, I calibrated in a rather moderate level of MMR considering my skill level (2450). I was somewhat happy, because I believed I could climb up to 3k, considering I had a great win-rate up to that point. Then the new update was announced, which would change the ranking system. So I was just chilling for a week or so, playing for fun waiting for the new calibration. Firstly I thought this would be a great opportunity to be able re-calibrate at 3k and go up from there, but I really messed up the calibration games and I ended up as a Crusader[2], which is translated to around 400 less MMR than I had before, considering my MMR under stats was about 1900. Anyway, I didn't really care much, as I thought it wouldn't really matter that much, and I would slowly improve. But my winrate has been sort of horrible ever since. If I spam 2 heroes (PA and AM) I could win almost any game (have had very high winrate with those heroes this patch). But as soon as I try to play with different heroes, I start losing. It's sort of wining 5, losing 5 situation, which means that I am not really ascending or descending in terms of ranks. I could just spam my 2 strong heroes, but I started getting bored playing nearly the same games every time, and I want to have fun while playing, as that is the whole purpose of a game.

Long Story short, I feel like I will be stuck in Crusader forever, unless I spam the same heroes for over 100 games, and I would really like another solution to my problem. I have to say that I am not the best player when it comes to mechanics, but lately I have been working on my map awareness, item builds and soon will work on Last-Hitting. If you could give me some tips which can help me win more games in this bracket, I would highly appreciate it.

Going in ranked for the first time, need some advice

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 05:20 AM PST

Hi, I come from LoL, been in top 3% there, now I started playing Dota. I want to play ranked - I don't mind being placed lower, I just want games where everyone is trying their best. In normals there is too much trolling. So I would like to know what are some recommended heroes and positions for lower brackets. Like Annie equivalent of Dota or something.

Brewmaster micro advice?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:56 AM PST

Hi guys, I like simplifying micro into bare minimum level of competence and then improve on that as I get more experience... Right now that means I basically attack move all 3 on 1 target, spam earth stun on CD, and click to tornado a secondary target but if they escape vision I just give up and use wind to right click my primary target...

Some fights I start with the purpose of tornadoing a specific target and chase kills as a secondary goal.

I only ever use the invis by clicking it during attacks simply for the bonus damage... Dispel to stop tornado if we have the hero isolated.

I usually go super aggro and assume my spirits won't die, because, well, they never do lol. Spam my blink button as soon as its about to unsplit.

So yeah, any bad habits I should avoid? Any tips for practicing this stuff?

How to play against Slark (1.2k MMR)

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 05:03 AM PST

Hi, I am having huge problems playing against Slark (1.2k MMR). My winrate against him is <35%, no matter whether I play core or support - I have no idea what to do. It would be great to get advice for - how to play support against him and what cores. Also where to ward, what items to get etc. Thank you in advance. https://www.opendota.com/players/61943234/overview?against_hero_id=93

Is it possible to view high level 1v1 mid games?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 06:23 AM PST

I'm herald 5, so I can definitely work on a lot of things (Although I've been steadily climbing recently since spamming void) but I want to practice and learn mid. I feel I can lane decently for my bracket (using creep aggro, 50-60cs at 10min, harassing, etc.) although I want to get better at mid and learn from high level 1v1 mid games.

Thanks.

Edit: I'm not going to be online for a few hours

Any suggestion for a new io player?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:08 AM PST

I've been playing position 4 and 5 for some time now. Then, one day my friend told me that I should try io, it's the ultimate support hero. But playing it was really hard and I died a lot. So, do you have any tips on how to play io, what skill should I learn to play better or when to draft it. Thanks

playing spectre with a bad lane support

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:10 PM PST

Interested in learning spectre! I'm wondering how you play her in the laning phase 2v2 when you might not have the best support who makes it safe for you to last hit in lane, low mmr.

Should you make vanguard and go into the jungle? Or make mom and go into the jungle? When is a radiance too late.

Starting to play again after a 4 month break

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 03:00 AM PST

Hello,

after a 4 month break (due a broken mouse) I decided to try my luckskill ad Dota again :)

I feel like I need to improve in all general areas. Currently I would mostly focus on improving map awareness. Any tips on how I can force myself to look more ad the map while doing stuff?

Also would you rather advise me to more versatile in my picks or focus on a limited amount off heroes in each role (or maybe a certain hero in different pos.)

my dotabuff if somebody is interested

Lone druid help

Hey guys I played a lone druid game the other day, Quite a long game.

And I feel like I extended the game for no reason.

I feel like I missed on crucial timings and I built wrong items.

I played lone druid a good amount of times but I feel like I don't really know when to buy x item at x time to win and close out the game.

What could I have done better in overall gameplay and item purchases ?
