[12/22/17] Monthly Roast my Dotabuff Thread #2

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 08:54 PM PST

I've made an addendum since the last thread; you must link a specific match ID and mention what hero you were playing. You may link your dotabuff as well, and it's recommended you do, but last thread was too many exchanges like this:

OP: Here's my dotabuff: dotabuff.com/123456789

Response: Don't play so much Sniper because he is an annoying hero

Obviously massive oversimplification, but you get the gist; there wasn't much specific, tangible advice. Let me know what you think of the new format. Happy holiday roasting!

When do you get Battlefury instead of Mjollnir?

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 05:04 PM PST

See title. I know bfury is good on AM and Ember, but I see people getting it over Mjollnir on say, Jugg or Void and I don't know if it's just because they don't know better or what.

How to deal with Sniper in the laning phase

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 02:44 PM PST

I play Storm vs. Sniper mid a lot, and after he hits about level 3, he throws down shrapnel every wave which zones me out of being able to farm or deny (except the range creep). What methods are there to actually pressure sniper besides a roamer?

What not traditional supports/roamers are viable nowadays?

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 11:01 AM PST

Hello there.

After many, many changes lately, I feel like I need to ask this again.
Yes, I will play Rubick often, but what if I want to play support, but not a traditional support, like AA, CM, DAZZUL, Disruptor, etc? What options do I have?
Besides typical roamers, like BH, Slardar, Clock, Space Cow? What else is not only available, but not bad?

It can be decent in ranked, normal, turbo... Not really game specific.

quick question about the current "meta"

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:29 PM PST

Hey just a quick question. I took a break from dota for a few months and i'm gonna start playing again. I just want to know what the current meta is like. Is it still the best too to have a roaming support to gank and then another support to ward?

Ember Blink

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 06:11 AM PST

Just wanted to understand the reasons behind so many embers at high mmrs picking up blink. Isn't remnant enough mobility or do you want to prioritise remnants for damage? Or is it merely that ember needs additional mobility in this meta?

What about PL hard (and other unexpecte heroes) ?

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 06:58 PM PST

Long story short, I like to play new things hardlane to surprise my ennemies and keep having fun.

As a hardlaner, my attention has been caught by Nyx recently, and I've realised how strong early regen was. So it brought me to PL, 3HP regen 1, 4 armor with 1 armor every 2 lvls (rougly) and a good, reliable escape on his 2nd spell.

What do you think about that ?

How to manage multiple units to ensure correct ability usage

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 05:49 PM PST

There have been many posts on micro controls. I have not been able to find exactly what I am looking for. For some background, I really enjoy micro heroes (specifically Visage, Chen, and Lone Druid), but I have a lot of trouble keeping track of individual units locations and cool downs. A good example of this is visage. I typically use a single control group for the familiars. If they are separated, how do most people know which one needs to be selected in the control group? Let's say that bird 1 is near an enemy and bird two is hiding in the tree. How do you know which one is selected to use the stun?

Another one is for nature's prophet. Often, in pro games, I see that they move an individual treant into rosh or to scout. How is this normally done? Do they create a separate control group for one treant? If this is the case, how do they remove the correct one from the control group containing all of the trees? I always send one away then accidentally call it back when I "select all other units."

Finally, this might just requires more practice, but how do you keep track of everything in fights? I forget to use my nuke as visage since I am trying to micro the familiars. Does anyone have any tips for this? Also, does anyone have a recommended way to practice micro equivalent to the last hitting minigame?

I appreciate your help! TL;DR: How do you use individual units from within a larger control group and not get lost in fights?

Sniper. Why.

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 09:39 AM PST

Post title says it all. For every "broken" hero I feel like there is something I've figured out to do. Like with PA just pick someone with high armor and tank out those darts until you can farm some regen items. But Sniper just RUINS me.

I admittedly have a small hero pool since I am so new, but no matter what he just plinks away at me during the laning stage, and then combos with someone w/ blink dagger to blink in while his constant barrage of shots are slowing me. It's so frustrating, especially when he snowballs and has things like dragon lance, maelstrom, etc. I feel like the hero has better range than anyone, attack speed like a Jugg, decent damage, and the slow he gets w his attack speed is OP..

I know theoretically that you are supposed to "get on top" of him with a blink or shadow blade or something, but I don't know any heroes maybe capable of this? Idk. What should I learn to deal with this huge frustration?

Thanks fam,

Is there a "right" way to play Techies?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 08:15 PM PST

I know he's easily one of the most hated heroes in the game and all that, but I'm pretty sure that's mostly because of him staying afk all game and putting mines everywhere without directly helping his team and unnecessarily dragging out games. I keep telling myself that there must be a way to actually be productive as a Techies - I was, tbh, quite happy when Suicide was changed to Blast Off and gave him a silence to work with, as it made him an ok ganker but apart from that I'm not a 100% sure what else I am capable of/can do to not be a typical game ruiner.

Any advice on how high level players approach playing techies? General tips, item/skill builds, replays and anything else will be appreciated :)

Are there some carry that can be picked early in the draft phase?

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:55 AM PST

I've watched some high mmr streams this week and noticed that ,even on top of the ladder, there are people that first pick or second pick carry, like Jugg,Luna,Morph. Are these players just asshole who want to play only one role or is picking a carry early not that bad, at least with those heroes?

I'm on a huge lose-streak

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 05:17 PM PST

I posted a similar post a few weeks ago, and it hasn't improved. I even created a new smurf account to test if it's my behavior score, but i realized one thing, the problem is that i have somehow gotten worse at the game than a couple of months ago because of playing with lower-skilled people than me, and now i am one of them.

I decided to go back to my good old strategy (Spam Midlane Visage when you are not countered by at least 3 heroes) because it worked.

Tips and tricks to improve gameplay

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:41 AM PST

Lemme start with an example. You are playing Tinker. When I started with him, I used to keep my cam on my hero when I tp back to base after I march the enemy creep waves instead of planning my next BoT location by looking all over the map.

Same is the case with heroes such as AM when farming the woods. You don't need to necessarily look at your hero when doing it.

To understand that these were indeed time-wasting things,it took me a looooooooooong time.(almost 3k hrs of playing)

What are some of the other similar mechanics which help in better decision making or increase your efficiency(maybe hero specific)?

Don't bother to comment even if it is a small mechanic. Even a small help is appreciated.

Finding SEA mid practice

I'm just a typical guy who wants to get better at dota (especially mid). I'm 4k3 and I expect to practice with someone above 4k. Much thanks and pm me if you're interested

Newbie question about denying

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:16 PM PST

If I'm alone in a lane just farming, is it worth it to deny? There are no enemy heroes around, so I might as well just let it die, right?

How could I have won the game? [Morph]

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 02:20 AM PST

Even after the nerf to morphling, I strongly believe that map awareness is now even more key as the player has to be more aware of potential stuns that would disable the shift. With that being said, I continue to play Morph after the nerf and had relatively successful games. Am I correct to say that as a Morph I need to be babysat at least for the first 2-4mins to get an advantage over the offlaner or I lost the lane?

In this game, rubick attempted to help secure the lane but disappeared abit too quickly and as the offlaner (veno) was able to continually contest the laning stage and as such I fell off quickly. From my 3k perspective, the job as a support(at least when i play it), is to zone the offlaner out hard so that my core would have level advantage and only leave when the core can hold his own over the offlaner.

With that thought in mind, if the support decides to leave me (Morph) a weak laner too early, does the game instantly becomes favoured to the opponent? As their offlaner that is able to contest my farm essentially just won the lane and I'm unable to farm myself? I'm sorry if the post comes along as whiny and ranting but I observed in 80% of the losses I had as Morph was when no supports was helping my lane or that they left me too early to fend for myself. Is there anything that I'm missing out i.e something else I could have done to secure more farm? I'll appreciate any form of input:) I want to learn and immprove:)
