We created a game to test your mechanical skills for League, and we need your help to test it!

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:07 AM PST

Not much of a reader? Start playing now!

Otherwise, here's some context:

Building a game to test raw performance skills has been a goal of mine for almost a decade now. In traditional sports like basketball and football, there are assessment tests that quantify specific skills, and players consistently practice drills designed to improve those specific skills. We believe the principles can be applied to games like League of Legends.

To accomplish this goal, I've worked with pros like SaintVicious and Voyboy, carefully studied cognitive performance literature, and have gone through many iterations to get to the version we are on now. Our team was inspired heavily by OSU, minigames that players like Faker play in queue, and old school competitive arcade games.

The game is comprised of three tasks that intentionally mirror gameplay aspects of LoL. For example:

  • The QWER bars were created to test your ability to keep track of background information such as cooldown timers.

  • The targets and bullseyes measure your ability to click with accuracy and precision - necessities for movement and landing abilities.

  • Finally, at the bottom right, we have a minimap that tests your awareness and reaction (D and F are used to dodge and mapped to your usual Summoner Spell keys).

Here's where you guys come in. Our plan is to gather as much data as possible from players of different skill levels. We will use this data and eventually tie it into in-game performance stats from our Gamer Performance Index (GPI). Over time, the data will give us a more robust assessment of player performance and can give better advice on how to up your game.

The Mobalytics Proving Ground debuted at Twitchcon 2017. We had convention-goers who played the game for hours on end, battling for the top spots on our Leaderboard. We decided to keep the Leaderboard for the sake of some good old fashioned 80's arcade era competition.

Let us know what you think! We'd like to make more of these sort of games to test other skills.

Introducing "Death Recap 2.0" | Riot's newest Meme-killer will allow users to contact Reddit analysts mid-game for advice.

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:57 AM PST

Well, it's finally here!

Death Recap stood as a blemish from the old times. Never functional, Riot couldn't seem to find the right algorithm that struck a balance between accurate info, and information that actually gave the player insight.

Not able to figure out an answer with computers, they looked beyond the current iteration of Recap and asked: what do we really want the feature to accomplish? They took things a new route--they made Death Recap into a tool more focused on player insight than ever, drawing upon the greatest library of meta information on EARTH: reddit dot com.

Features

  • Contact (at time of writing) 1,223,145 willing /r/leagueoflegends analysts at any time!

  • Based on RNG, your question might be directed to analytical powerhouses like Hashinshin or Athene! You can even receive rare conversations with figures from the Riot of yore, like Riot Lyte and Riot Sanjuro, who will deliver one of their classic quotes before giving advice. (for example, Lyte might say "Let's reform your behavior to be less aggressive... in lane," and Sanjuro might say "just follow my advice and we'll all be gucci").

  • Become an analyst yourself! Thousands of people will be begging you for your insight--obviously that's already the case, but now it will be in video form!

So what are you waiting for? Hop into PBE and try out Death Recap 2.0 today.

NOTE: Riot is not responsible for the behavior of analysts. Information provided is subject to change depending on what way faker gets out of the bed that morning.

While eveyone's arguing over Varus's new lore, I'm just happy there are actually female darkins

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:40 AM PST

At the end of his short story:

Varus sighed. "Where are you, sister?" he said.

After putting such emphasis on this, there's no way Riot are just going to forget about this. We're gonna get a female darkin champion eventually, I'm sure of it. Really exciting!

Blitz is at Scouting Grounds, partnered with C9 — what do you want to see? (Also if you don’t know what SG is, here’s a quick TL;DR)

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:59 AM PST

Blitz Esports is here at Scouting Grounds as Cloud9's media partner, which basically means we stalk them throughout this process. We also know this isn't the most understood or maybe interesting event for the community.

We've had a really cool experience so far, and with franchising on the way, we'd love to see an exciting rookie scene. So we'd like to ask…

  • What would make you more interested in the League of Legends rookie scene?
  • What kind of content do you want to see?
  • Do you have any questions about the Scouting Grounds process?

Scouting Grounds tl;dr

The top 4 highest ranked League players in each role were invited by Riot to fly out to LA and be drafted onto teams led by NA LCS organizations. C9, TSM, CLG, and Optic are each training their own squad, and they'll compete in a round robin tournament, with finals airing this Saturday, Dec 2.

FlyQuest has now confirmed Fly as their Mid Laner!

With the final piece to their starting lineup, how do you think this roster will do in the coming splits? I think this team has some promise and can be a playoff roster.

The enemy Comet AoE circle should be a different color!

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:06 AM PST

While it's not an issue in the lane phase (even there it's an issue for jungler ganks) I feel like the comet AoE circle is sometimes really confusing. I'd be in a fight and think it's a friendly comet however it turns out it's an enemy one and I take free damage even tho I could dodge it.

I know this isn't an issue all the time, but there are a few times where the fact that the comet is always a blue circle makes you take free damage for no reason. Also we're kinda programmed to stand in stuff that isn't red so you're not as likely to notice and move out.

Why the Tyler1 Championship Series was so successful

If Op.gg can update their Match History within days of the new runes rollout, how come the official Riot one still is out of date.

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 11:28 PM PST

Saw a post earlier today linking a match history from the official riot match history site https://matchhistory.oce.leagueoflegends.com insert your own region in the oce bit. I was looking through it because they mentioned that the Sona had taken a specific rune. However, when I went to look at the runes they had taken the site showed old runes and masteries.

I think it is highly disappointing that a site like op.gg can outperform riot and implement this change within days of the change when Riot had months before they even changed the system to prepare.

What do you fellow /r/leagueoflegends think about this?
