Thursday Teaching Thread - Beginners encouraged to ask questions here! | December 14 - December 20

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 09:00 AM PST

Welcome to the latest Thursday Teaching Thread, where you the community get to ask your questions and share your knowledge.

This is an opportunity for the more experienced HotS players here to share some of your wisdom with those with less expertise. This thread will be a weekly safehaven for those "noobish" questions you may have been too scared to ask for fear of downvotes, but also can be a great place for in depth discussion if you so wish. So, don't hold back, get your game related questions ready and post away, and hopefully someone can answer them!

If you wish to just view top level comments (ie questions) add ?depth=1 to the end of the page url. If you have any additional questions, /r/nexusnewbies is happy to help.

My airbnb hostess is the voice actor for Lunara

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 03:57 PM PST

Really not much to talk about, but as a person that spends a lot of my free time playing Hots I was actually a little starstruck about this (and I never get starstruck so I was a bit surprised about my reaction haha)

Also I sadly didn't feel that my girlfriend appreciated this fact enough. So I figured I could post about it here so I wouldn't feel so alone about it all.

That is all!

IDEA: Tyrael should get a potentially shortened death timer based on the amount of damage he gets done with his trait.

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 10:08 AM PST

Of all the "death traits" except arguably Diablo, Tyrael's is by far the least rewarding. Occasionally you will get very good value out of it but the overwhelming majority of the time it is meaningless. To fix that, I think there should be a formula that takes into account hero damage and siege damage done with the explosion and reduces the death-timer accordingly.

Alternatively, or perhaps in addition, hero kills and perhaps minion/mercenary kills could be a factor. I'm not sure what the exact implementation should be, but I think if you tune it correctly it might even make people want to pick some of those trait talents that I've never seen anyone pick.

It could lead to plays like those that are made with Uther's trait where you intentionally tank damage at some point in the fight because your trait is strong enough to change the course of the game.

Plz roll back the Ultrarisk's Regenration Globes in Braxis Holdout

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 06:20 AM PST

Ultrarisk killed, he spawn friendly Regeneration Globes for defender. But now Regeneration Globes become neutral one after 3 seconds. So atacker(who made 100% zerg) take those Regenertion Globes and continually dive into fort! It makes more snowball!

So today I made 7minutes game in this battleground.

Plz roll back the Ultrarisk's Regneration Globes.

E.T.C. Powerslide Guide - Rethinking The Slide

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 09:47 AM PST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWZa_lXTQJY

I used some highlights from ONE game of Breez to show how the best E.T.C. player in the world finds different ways to manipulate the battleground without ever truly hard engaging with a Powerslide. In just one game you can see multiple thought processes which make his E.T.C. such a threat. Yes, there will always be moments, but there are far more creative ways to use it.

I talked about it a bit at Blizzcon with the 'bump-and-slide' approach. Breez and BadBenny used this extensively in HGC, which was one of the reasons E.T.C. was banned out against Fnatic multiple times throughout Blizzcon. Breez also had the highest Kill% in HGC per-slide in EU/NA for the teams at Blizzcon. I tracked all Powerslides from each of the 6 NA/EU players and wanted to go into what made them so effective. Breez has a different approach.

I understand it takes a bit more coordination to pull it off to the level that Fnatic does, but there are definitely a lot of things to do differently. I offer up a diagram in video as well for approximately how sure you should be when you engage towards the enemy side on whether you have a winning trade/kill potential.

We're not just going to let rainbow horse pass without any further comment are we?

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 05:31 AM PST

C'mon Blizzard. It was showing as the season reward on the season announcement page for the whole fucking season. That means it IS the reward for this last season, and I for one want it!

We can't just let them get away with saying "oops" on season rollover day and give us some crappy versions of it instead can we?

December 12th Patch - 48 Hours Later

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 01:31 PM PST

Blizz when rolling back players' MMRs, please do it to all players. Everyone was affected, not just those with big MMR changes.

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 05:47 PM PST

Having unbalanced teams of golds and plats in a master mmr game is just an example of how this negatively affected EVERY player that played HL since the patch.

Request as a Diablo player

Can we please have a "see wall" option so we can view the outlines of the walls clearly like Hanzo? Sometimes the angles are funny & it's difficult to tell if our Charge will wall bang someone or not and having this option would help IMMENSELY. Thank you and have a nice day. :)

It's safe to say Hanzo has replaced Valla as king of the Eternal Conflict.

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 10:38 AM PST

The first time I tried his scatter build was on infernal shrines. I was doing camps left and right so I thought he'd be good on Battlefield too because the camps were set up the same way. And I was correct but I was not prepared for how ridiculous he is on this map.

I just had a game on it a few minutes ago and managed 53% of the immortal damage. The scatter build is completely ridiculous on them. The way they're set up they have a wall right next to their faces so you just stand behind them and shoot in a straight line through them. They eat every shot and get chunked every 2 seconds.

I wrote in another post about how they shouldn't nerf his PvE capability with the scatter build but this is absurd. There's a high chance this'll get nerfed to only do bonus damage to minions and mercs.

But I hope they have some compensation buffs planned because he doesn't do anything Valla or Chromie can't do. Scatter's actual hero damage is really lame so pve is all scatter is good for. Hopefully they increase the damage to heroes and don't decrease it too much against non-heroes. Dragonstrike is also really pathetic. It's basically a slower close-range version of lava wave. It doesn't do much damage at all unless oponents try to run through it in the opposite direction.

TL;DR He does way too much damage to immortals and not enough to heroes.

A tip to Junkrat players: you can 'escape' "The Hunt" or "Judgement" with a properly timed mine jump

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 11:52 AM PST

You can jump as you're being stunned.

Unlike what happens to Muradin now, Junkrat will be stunned midflight but not drop. I figured this out last night. Not sure how relevant it is to have Ripper Air here though.

Bonus tip: Ripper Air lets you jump boats.

Alongside the new camera, sprays got even bigger than before but globe size stayed the same and they're harder to notice.

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 01:18 AM PST

The fact that sprays got enlarged but globes not is weird. One is visual clutter while other is important gameplay element.

Season Roll Placement Issue - 12/13 - Heroes of the Storm Forums - Update

We should be able to see Rehgar's wolf model for each of his skins

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 02:55 AM PST

Title : Rehgar's wolf model changes depending of the skin used, but you can't see it from the collection nor the hero selection. The only way to see it is to "try" the skin in the shop or start a game with it, which is really inconvenient.

Skins including a specific mount change, like Count Arthas, display the mount model in a "Hero Specific" tab in the hero selection, so why can't Rehgar ?
