Legendary Armor Aura dyes: Part 3

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 12:11 PM PST

This post that I made several months ago referenced developer comments that legendary armor (raid) auras/effects and dyes would be looked into for updating/fixing. Since then the WvW chest piece (sublime mistforged) has been updated to allow the tentacles to be dyed so I'm wondering if there's been any movement on the raid armor dye slots.

I made a reminder post a couple months ago and got silence. Maybe a third reminder is the charm? :P

PSA: Don't salvage wing 5 boxed armors yet

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 02:45 AM PST

Because my original post was removed due to a spoiler in the title, I'm making another so other's dont make the same mistake.

I'm not sure how many other players have experienced this, but many of my guildies and friends have. Upon salvaging the armor from the Dhuum's chest I received 60 magnetite shards instead of 60 gaeting crystals. I was able to get my gaeting crystals back by contacting support, however I'd save any boxes of Dhuum armor to salvage until after there is a fix for it.

I can only confirm this happening with Dhuum's boot box, however others have had the same problem so I'd assume it applies to all Dhuum armor.

Edit: I salvaged other items like the hammer from challenge mote and received gaeting crystals. This most likely only applies to boxed items.

Speedrun.com/GW2 Winter Wonderland Speedrun Competition 225G Prize Pool

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:26 PM PST

Hi! We the speedrun.com's Guild Wars 2 moderators invite you to speedrun jumping puzzles for bragging rights, and a bit of gold too this time around. Are you tired of having no competition and rewards from doing JPs or from trying to speedrun them? Well I'm really hyped about the return of Winter Wonderland and I want to host a friendly competition for speedrunning it!

I'm sure many of you have seen speedrun videos of the loved and hated JP. If you haven't you can do a YouTube or a Reddit search for 'winter wonderland speedrun' to get an idea how it can be done. We're off to a good start on the speedrun.com leaderboards. We would like to fill them with records and grow and cater the scattered JP & Adventure speedrunning scene that hasn't gained huge popularity. Let's get on to the competition details.

Competition Prize Pool:

For each path the top 3 times will receive 35 gold, 25 gold, and 15 gold respectively.

Contest Rules:

  1. Make a video of a speedrun of one of the three Winter Wonderland paths and submit it to a speedrun.com/gw2 Winter Wonderland unrestricted category.
  2. Follow speedrun.com category rules on timing and run starting point.
  3. Only one prize per contestant.
  4. Fastest runs win.
  5. Prizes will be paid 3 days after the Wintersday festival has ended to allow for late submissions. Subject to change depending on moderator workload.
  6. As per common speedrun practices you can keep submitting new times to replace your old times.
  7. Moderators may retime submissions or reject them for not following rules et cetera.

What You Need:

  1. Video recording software (OBS Studio, Nvidia ShadowPlay, Radeon ReLive)
  2. and a video hosting platform (YouTube, Twitch). No vid, no did.
  3. Timer software (LiveSplit, WSplit) is useful but not required.
  4. Free speedrun.com account to submit your time to the speedrun.com Winter Wonderland leaderboards.

The most important thing that you need though is a private or really low population Winter Wonderland instance. There's a chance to end up in one after the round ends and the timer fails to teleport you to a new instance. To afk in an empty instance autorun off from a starting platform. To afk in a populated instance you can autowalk (autorun + walk toggle) off the platforms without destroying snowflakes for others.

If you're unsure about anything you can always ask us. The community has a discord server! We'd be glad to have you join us us at: https://discord.gg/ChHsjMx

Happy speedrunning and have a merry Wintersday!

why blocks doesn't work/apply on LFG lists?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:29 AM PST

not the best wording on title, but if I blocked someone why would I want to join their squad? the other way around also applies.

we had a person this weekend. we were doing KC and this person, on our opinion, wasn't doing his/her job so we kicked. then this person spam joined our squad making us to spend (even) more time than usual to find someone because, you know, this person was removing our advertise on LFG instantly - we all reported for LFG abuse, but not the point here.

instead of this behavior why can't blocks work also on LFG lists?

we ended having a guildie leaving just to have two spots open so this "unsafe" person joined and we could find another "safe" person - to kick the unsafe one and invite our guildie again.

Warrior or Revenant?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 06:53 PM PST

Hi! I'm a returning player to the game, I've put like 800 hours before taking a big break last year, I just got HoT and PoF expansions, and I've only ever played elementalist, engineer, thief, and guardian, to level 80.

I'm having trouble deciding what character I wanna do the DLC content with.

What I'm looking for is a character good at both long and close range. I want to have a heavy armor character, because I love heavy armor and being durable, but something versatile, I loved being mobile and having a tool for every situation as elementalist, but I wasn't a fan of how glassy I was, made certain enemy attacks frustrating to deal with because of my low durability.

With guardian, as fun as it was being nigh unkillable in PvE, and standing just fine in dangerous conditions when everyone else would get shredded, I felt so caged into using a hammer and staff and just being support/tank my whole life, and overall low damage output made solo play grueling. Using greatsword and it's CC was a blast, but the damage was underwhelming and the utility limited. And in easier content my role as a tank/healer was unneeded and I felt pretty useless.

I made a warrior to toy around with, it felt good and satisfying so I foolishly used a lv80 booster.

but they seem kinda... bland? Like rifle is nice ranged damage, and I like being able to throw my battle axe for when enemies try to run from melee, or to open a fight. Doing a lot of damage and having a weapon to fight anything is satisfying, but everything seems so focused around just "hit thing for a lot of damage" and buffs that make you and your friends just "do more damage" but I haven't used any of the elite specs yet.

I've mostly used axe and shield and rifle, does it get more engaging? Or would I enjoy another class more? I really liked elementalist but I prefer to be a bit less of a glass canon. I also liked engineer, but the complexity level was sometimes a bit much, and solo play felt awkward due to how many melee enemies there was. I found myself using my bombs for 90% of engagements.

Now revenant interests me, but everything I've read says they're currently rather underwhelming. A jack of all trades, master of none, and not really being great at one thing hurts them in a game like this. I've heard of their resource pool weighing them down.

I'm not interested in being meta by any means, but I want to be able to hold my own in solo or group play.

Are they too complicated? (Like how engineer can be) Do they have one build that is the only viable one? (How guardian felt)

Personally I've played enough healer to last a lifetime, I'd prefer not to play another support. But having CC/utility is something I love. Basically I want a damage dealer with a lot of utility, not unlike enji

Do you guys have any advice? I want to enjoy the new content, but I don't wanna be weighed down by a class that's boring or tedious.

Are there some matchups in PvP that I just CANNOT win depending on my build?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:31 AM PST

I'm playing a Thief, and have found that there are some enemies 1v1 in which I literally cannot bring them past 50% health, even with my optimal damage skill rotations.

Are there just some builds that these veterans are using that are near impossible to kill, and I should just be avoiding them? It doesn't even feel like a skill issue on my part, some of these builds just seem virtually invincible. One enemy taunted our team by literally not fighting back and just taking the attacks of 4 people, and we couldn't bring their health below half. It's really disheartening.

Edit: I'm running Dagger/Pistol stealth build

Firebrand allround guide.

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 04:00 AM PST

Firebrand Guide

As I was giving tips about the firebrand in another thread I thought about sharing my knowledge about him on a broader base so more people can take profit of it.

Disclaimer: I am not one of those people opting everything out. I am happy if it works so I go for what works best for me. Everything you read here and everything I propose maybe can be opted furthermore. This is just an introduction to what this profession is capable of. Also this is my first guide. Glad for any Feedback.

Why do I think you should listen to some random dork on the internet? Well you do not Need to listen to me. But as I am playing guardian as my main class since the very first day I came to gather quite some knowledge. This is more a guide of how to work yourself into firebrand pretty fast and after this you will hopefully be able to use him widely.

Tl;Dr: There is a build collection where I will link all builds. Having them at one place makes it easier to browse. WvW guide is at the bottom.

Eierlegende Wollmilchsau

The title is a German word for an animal. That is pretty much able to provide everything you can get from an animal. Same goes for the Firebrand. Firebrand can do everything. Like I am not exaggerating. He is definitely not the best in every field. But since he is capable of everything you can always chose what you want him to be. Big Support. A lot of Damage. Some CC. If you know this class (Guardian) well, you will never have any problem in any mode. However. Getting to know this class well is pretty complicated and takes a lot of time. A lot of skills are situational. And if you don't know this class by heart you won't think of them when you need.

What the firebrand is capable of:

(I will talk about the guardian as firebrand. Of course a lot of Vanilla stuff is also mentioned but right now I will talk about how you play if you chose Firebrand)

Why not Dragonhunter?  Dragonhunter is super easy. Just take a build from quantify and press buttons. = Damage. (Of course you can opt a lot but still Dragonhunter is no big deal in open world, if you want to, and like this guide I can also make one for Dragonhunter or vanilla guard.)

Tomes

Every tome is doing something different. But all are working the same way. If you understand that, it helps you to memorize the different effects of the tomes. (Won't use the names, Ain't nobody got time for that)

F1 Tome: Damage

F2 Tome: Healing /Condi cleanse

F3 Tome: Counter CC / CC

*1: Is always doing the said above in a cone in front of you

*2. Is doing something of the above around you.

*3. Is doing something of the above farther away

*4. Is generating a big field of the said under you

*5. Is giving a correlated non-debuffable buff to 5 others and you plus some extra of the said above.

Easy peasy so far.

Now it should be pretty obvious when to use each tome. F1 for dmg off Cooldown. F2 for healing and Condi cleanse when needed. F3 when opposed heavy cc (very situational outside of WvW).

When using a tome

First off all, when you use a tome you get quickness. So after the pretty long cast time of the tome (something to really keep in mind so you don't screw up) you have an instant cast for one ability (more or less) so the first ability is always the one you need most. (Or at the least you think you need most)

F1

Always use your 5 first. It gives to you and people around you a buff that grants you 3 burning attacks. Generates quite some dmg. Use this off cooldown.

After that go for your 4. Fire field with dmg. If the target is not moving a must go. In WvW especially useful on downstates. After that go for your 2 if you are close to your target. If not leave this out.

Then use your 1 till you have no pages or 5,4or 2 are off cooldown.

The 3 is situational since it is a long-range pull. Nice for wvw. Sometimes ok in pve if you use it for break bar or to pull bigger amounts of mobs together for your 2 or 4.

F2 Your healing tool. 5 is the must go first. Gives a buff that increases healing. Converts Condition (very useful). Always first and off Cooldown.

After that go for your 4. AOE Waterfield with decent healing.

After that it becomes situational. Spam 1 for healing. (Only in front of you). 2 is for a small Condi cleanse and healing if you cleanse. 3 is aoe with some buffs. (Ok if you run altruistic healing. Otherwise not that much needed) Most times you will go with 1. (Apply some quickness for more bursty heals).

F3

This tome is best for WvW, where you need a lot of stunbreaks and defensive boons. Very situational in pve and can be ignored most of the time. I will get more in depth in the wvw section of this.

5 gives a lot of defensive buffs plus extra defensive stats which can't be corrupted.

4 is a stun break plus resistance. But only stationary.

3 is a dome that reflects projectiles. Again essential in WvW. Not that useful in pve

2 is a cc. (taunt) use it for break bars if you need.

1 is spammable stability, aegis and swiftness. Nice but again not that much needed.

Weapons:

Just a small oversight what each weapon is used for:

Axe: Mixed dmg (condi and power) and quite some cc

Scepter: Ranged power dmg

Sword: power dmg

Mace: healing (quite a lot)

Torch: mixed offhand dmg

Focus: some defensive block tools, and a blast

Shield: a dome (another one) that is just blocking and healing some bit, plus defensive buffs

Greatsword: Burst power dmg

Hammer: CC weapon and some power dmg

Staff: Aoe dmg. Burst healing. CC.

For power builds right now it is Greatsword and Scepter/torch (hammer situational).

For condition build right now I recommend Axe / torch and Scepter / focus.

How to build:

Guardian has tools for everything you just need to know where to look for it. You could talk days about what to use when so I'll keep this short and leave the rest for you to explore:

Zeal: Opting your symbols (yes, that is actually useful!) mostly suitable for power builds (Scepter 2 and GS 4)

Radiance: Improving your F1 (making it more spammable,) and can be used for both, condition and power builds

Valor: Mostly for selfsustain. Ironically has the toughness buff for your party. (I really should post about that trait being swapped with the one of the staff. Not making sense there at all. But also not needed for pve)

Honor: Group healing orientated trait line.

Virtues: Hard to describe. It is a bit of everything. Has a lot of group buffs but also a lot of selfsustain traits. Can be used for both. This one needs a bit work. Best working with radiance in a power vanilla build, since it is giving a lot of retaliation which Radiance needs for more dmg.

Firebrand: some condidmg, some buff migration and of course further virtue improving

Gear:

Depending on what you are aiming at you can chose your gear. Really , there is not that much you can do wrong.

Berserker for Power Builds. (Marauder for a bit more tankiness.

Any of the used condi gear for more condi based build (really does not matter, even Trailblazer can work)

For mixed builds use Grieving or Viper.

For WvW you can go healing power based builds (cleric, ministrel, nomad,)

But also power based (Soldier, Berserker mix, or Solder Celestial mixed) Just go as it suits you and your portemonnaie.

BUT

The best and most versatile right now is Celestial. I use it for every game mode. One Gear for all. (This is just super comfortable).

BUILDS

Following now I will list some builds I play or used to play explaining when to use:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQRAnf7dnsADFBjNDBuCBEEhF/BzKAUBqTZJhK0OY/i2RHpA-jlCBABkq+jQ7PEwRA45TAQeaGMT5HAHEAnfAAJqHwRlgAA-w

This build is a pve build and optimated for the new map. Amplifying tomes and including a lot of condidurationreduction. And some stunbreaks of course. You can burst down any normal opponent with one F1 rotation. You add a lot to bossfights. You are able to deal a significant amount of dmg over time. You can't be burstet down. (Makes the new story an easy run through.) I just left the meldru rune in it since I am using the gear for wvw as well. You can exchange it for a rune suiting your case. Same goes for sigil.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQRAnf7dnsADFBjdBDGCBEEhl4BzaD8CeUVBgtU9aPmeT7pA-jlCBABmp8zRlgBcEAIV9Hh2fIPNDO/AASUPAAHEgnPBAAA-w

This build has a lot less Defensiv tools and more offensive tools. I use it pretty much on every other map. Enables you to do everything alone but you also add quite some to groups. If you want to use it in fractals I would take out the focus for having torch all of the time. Also you can alter the firebrand trait to Bottom mid mid since this is a bit more group focused.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQJARWnsADtChNCDeDBkCjlEC7aZFAOA7B0BaDFrBECKTA-jViFQB8RJIVU+lujAQCuAASS9n7oLAG7PIwDBAAeAAkCoIRWA-w

This is my WvW build. It is not exactly meta. This is not some random shit I came up with. I am very experienced and I put a lot of work in this. As far as I can say it is exceeding other builds pretty much. (at least for me it is doing, of course, this is depending on how you play it). More dmg. Far superior selfsustain. Same group sustain. Little less healing but still completely fine. You cannot use your F3 as a stun break but you pretty fast get used to that.

The standard Meta Guardian builds can be found here:

https://metabattle.com/wiki/Guardian

This builds are also very good and all of them are working pretty nice. But why did I do this guide at all? Because I can add some significant help to those who want to play the firebrand as a class. Especially if you are new or if you do not want to reinvest in you firebrand for every game mode.

Extra: WvW (Everyone loves having more firebrands in their Zerg)

ALWAYS AVOID THE BLACK DOMES. VERY BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH. (STILL FOLLOW YOUR COMM OFC)

If you would want to explain the usage of the firebrand in WvW (zerg) in a very simple manner I would go like this:

In every fights there are several phases which strictly correlate with what the Firebrand has to offer.

Damage migration with F1. Healing with F2 and Countering CC with F3.

Every Commander has his/her own flair but these 3 Phases can be distinguished all the time (of course you can do it more complicated but again, this is for starting).

Going with the meta as it is right now:

When staying long range. Either use your staff or F1 for dmg and CC. Depending on your commander you can save your F1 for later.

When engaging, the first thing that will happen is a lot of cc and aoe fields / long range projectiles in your way. Ergo we take the F3 first. 5 first for the Buff and 4 for the resistance.

Use the dome for blocking off a lot of things. Lay it into the general direction of the other zerg before going in. Watch them kill themselves. This is just a thing of timing you will learn pretty fast. (This is just like super funny. If seen people dealing about 1 million Dmg before the fight even started by just on well placed dome!!)

After the first push, we will start healing since most of us lost a good chunk of health. Especially use your F2 when you see the conditions stacking. 5 is empowering the healing plus turning 5 conditions into buffs which is really huge. Just the 4 right after and will do a lot of healing with your 2 for some extra remove. (Combine this with the removal mantra and you can stay condiclean most of the time.)

If you happen to be in an excellent position where being damaged is unlikely you can always abort the books and change into the F1 for some dmg.

You might remember your GS being a power weapon. It has a lot of burst. So when going deep you can use it to migate tons of dmg in a short time. Then switch again for the staff and heal. If you ever happen to be on cd with everything else you still can cleanse all the condis. Keep this skill till you really need it.

But dealing dmg with firebrand gets easier and better the more you are used to it. So first start of with going defensive. You will die less and will learn about what to do. If you feel good start adding some spicy damage to your rotation.

Good Luck.

PS: God, i hate editing. I hope everything is looking fine. Still guess i Need some more tries.

Torch skin that isn't too bright?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 09:17 AM PST

Hi, everybody.

As most builds now require a torch for condi build, I find most torch skins too jarring/flashy/light.

So, can someone, please, recommend me any torch skins that aren't that way? Preferably by someone who used the skin, as previewing them in the wardrobe window isn't very feasible.
