Is there a case for allowing Boltz and Steel to play the ELeague Boston Major with their current teams?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 09:36 AM PST

In the wake of professional player and popular opinion on the subject, I've decided to do some digging into the ELeague rulebook. At first glance, it looks pretty cut-and-dry ("ELEAGUE Rulebook Section 3.1"):

  • - Any Player that participated in a minor including the Americas Qualifier cannot change to any other Team participating in the Major LAN Qualifier or ELEAGUE Major in any capacity.

However, I found the below passage from "ELeague Rulebook Section 6.0 - Legal Matters" to be quite interesting:

  • 6.4 Spirit of the Rules. Finality of all decisions regarding the interpretation of these rules, Player and Team eligibility, scheduling and staging for the tournament and related events, and penalties for misconduct, lie solely with ELEAGUE Management, the decisions of which are final. ELEAGUE decisions relating to these rules and/or the tournament cannot be appealed and shall not give rise to any claim for monetary damages or other legal or equitable remedy. These rules may be amended, modified or supplemented by ELEAGUE, from time to time, in order to ensure fair play and the integrity of ELEAGUE.

It stands to reason that there is a case for both Boltz and Steel to be allowed to play in the Major despite their attendance in the online Qualifier. To put it quite simply: the demise of the Major-finalist Immortals lineup was an extenuating circumstance, and the inclusion of both Boltz and Steel in the Major does not violate the Spirit of the Rules.

The Roster rules are great, and exist for very specific reasons -- to protect the integrity of the Minor by preventing manipulative roster changes. However, the destruction of the Immortals roster due to unprofessional conduct by some of the players seems to have unfairly put Boltz and Steel in a position where they are unable to participate. This situation wasn't caused by buyouts and trades, but by unprofessional conduct -- which is against the ELeague rules in multiple places. It's worth noting that the unprofessional players were able to keep their slot in the Major, adding insult to injury for the players mentioned here.

To ELeague Staff: While the letter of the rules has been followed by preventing Steel and Boltz from attending the Major, I strongly believe that it is against the spirit of the rules (specifically section 6.4) to bar these players. The Spirit of the Rules exists to preserve the integrity and fairness of the competition, and barring two players who found themseves in an unfair situation through no fault of their own is injustice. You've reserved the right to amend or modify the rules in an extenuating circumstance -- it's time to invoke this right.

Karrigan tries to use crowd as a bait for Coldzera to peek

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 03:39 AM PST

So I was watching yesterday's final and found a really clever move from Karrigan. At 58:35, he lifts his arms in order to get the crowd hyped so that Coldzera would think that Niko was sticking the defuse when actually he was not.

Is it just me, or does a comp search get stuck on "Confirming match..."?

As in, it confirms a match, but doesn't show the Accept button. Repeat ad infinitum.

No accept matchmaking button

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:07 PM PST

I have done everything short of reinstalling, yet no solution - most everything found is 2015 or before. The weirdest part was this was just after I played a match. I get "confirming match" and then nothing and then "removed from matchmaking queue" please help. I also reset everything and did multiple reboots and turned off firewalls.

Isn’t afk’ing griefing?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:22 PM PST

I just played a match, got paired up with 2 guys who just afk'd for 13 rounds. They both moved at the same time and I checked both of their profile and turns out they both have people cussing at them for the afk

One guy even has 'did i deranked you' written on his profile. What just pisses me off is that they have 1000 and 900 hours respectively and both haven't been banned at all.

I thought griefing for more than 2 times is a 5 week ban and after that is permanent ban? What happened to that

Accept button not popping up.

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 06:42 PM PST

My friends and I are trying to 4q right now but for some reason the accept button won't pop up for 3 of us. I've already tried restarting the lobby and my game, anyone know why this might be happening? (We are all in gold nova and in USA) (Edit: A few of my friends are having the same issue. Also in NA servers.)
