Unlisted Games - End of 2017 Discussions Megathread

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 03:17 PM PST

Hey everyone,

Even though I had planned to get through over 100 games for these threads, I decided to cut things down to allow for this final week of 2017 to be a free-for-all of user submissions. For the other games I didn't get around to, you can use this thread to talk about them. Everyone is also free to make their own individual threads.

You don't have to make threads about a specific game. It can be a certain genre, a dev/publisher studio, a gaming expo or whatever else, as long as it's relevant to the current year.

For user submissions, I'm not picky about the formatting and what information you choose to include. You don't have to include everything that I did; if you want, you can make it as a general, high-effort self-post with your personal thoughts on the game and some discussion prompts at the end like any other regular text post on the sub. All I ask is that you use this template for the post title:

"[Video Game Name / Best (Genre) Games of the Year / Dev Studio / Etc.] - 2017 Game Discussions"

Some examples

  • Best Multiplayer Games of the Year - 2017 Game Discussions

  • Nidhogg 2 - 2017 Game Discussions

  • Best Gaming Expo Announcements of the Year - 2017 Game Discussions

  • Nintendo - 2017 Game Discussions

And, above all, if you do choose to write your own thoughts about the game in the OP, please avoid making low-effort submissions! Be sure that your post will generate quality discussion. I'll be sure to include these user posts in the megathread and credit the OP by listing their username.

This post would be way too long if I listed every single game that doesn't have a thread.

References

I'll keep this up until January 1, and then on that day, I'll put up a sticky for everyone to talk about their most anticipated games coming up in 2018.

Happy Holidays!

Now that people have had time to play the end game, how dependent is Shadow of War on loot boxes?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 04:56 PM PST

I just remember that when the game was first reviewed, everyone said "We can't really tell the status of loot box dependency since we haven't made it to/played a lot of the end game fortress mode."

Delivering a community project to Square Enix for Final Fantasy XI's 15th anniversary

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 12:00 PM PST

2017 marks the 15th anniversary of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI and because the game has had such an impact on me throughout my life, I decided to start a community project back in March. We over at /r/ffxi collected memories and "message to the developers" from players for a couple of months until May.

I spent a good number of months working on the project until October, where I was able to hand deliver it to Square Enix HQ in Japan to the FFXI Producer and Director. Here is what they had to say:

https://i.imgur.com/GJG2BRf.jpg

Thank you all very much for the wonderful messages! The development and operations teams will continue to do their best so that everyone can continue to enjoy their adventurers in Vana'diel. We truly appreciate your support!

- FINAL FANTASY XI Producer Akihiko Matsui

---------------------------------------

To everyone in the FFXI Reddit community,

Reseph stopped by our offices today and presented us with a book filled with heartfelt comments, memories, and messages about the world of FINAL FANTASY XI and for the teams behind it. Thank you all very much!

We've been reading the book and sharing everyone's thoughts with the other members on the development team. As long as you're all here, we're planning to continue our development and operations for FINAL FANTASY XI. So be sure to get everyone around you involved and have fun enjoying Vana'diel.

Wishing you all a happy Vana'diel life!

- FINAL FANTASY XI Director Yoji Fujito

Some sites have covered this story but I wanted to share it here with my own words. I am eternally grateful to both this game and its fans, especially for so many players submitting their memories to this project.

FFXI may not be my first MMORPG, but it especially touched my heart unlike any other game. The experience was, and is, unforgettable.

We received 215 submissions during our collection period, resulting in a whopping 33275 words to be delivered to the FFXI dev team. There are some additional details in here, but below is the full PDF for those interested in a bit of reading.
