Reddit Balance Team - results

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 09:02 AM PST

tl;dr:

  • champions are generally a little bit too weak
  • Gangplank, Zoe and Gnar are OP
  • Volibear, Viktor and Fiddle are completly opposite
  • Annie is pinnacle of balance
  • ADCs are generally most OP, Junglers and Toplaners are the worst

Hello there again. As I promised in my previous post, after gathering 255 responses (even more including trolls I didn't count) I'm proud to present results of Reddit Balance Team survey. Few scores might be expected, but some of them will be definitely surprising

Weakest and strongest Champions

In the eyes of entire comminity top 5 champions who crucially need some nerfs are:
1. Zoe
2. Gangplank
3. Gnar
4. Sejuani
5. Tristana

While top 5 weakest champions are:
1. Volibear
2. Viktor
3. Fiddlesticks
4. Mordekaiser
5. Aatrox

However there scores are kinda diffrent between divisions. Let's take a look at most OP champions:

Bronze Silver Gold Platinum Diamond Master&Challenger
Nunu Zoe Gangplank Zoe Zoe Gangplank
Gangplank Gangplank Zoe Gangplank Gangplank Gnar
Illaoi Tristana Gnar Kha'Zix Sejuani Kog'Maw

As we see generally only Gangplank is terror of not only Seven Seas, but also seven divisions. But what is Nunu doing in bronze? Some questions should be left without answers

Most balanced champions

There isn't one perfect measure to be able to definitely say "X is most balanced". That's why I used 3 diffrent methodes:

Balance by absolute value. In this method I used absolute value of diffrence between champions mean score accross all divisions and 3 - because in 1-5 scale 3 would mean absolute balance. Resuls are following:

Champion Absolute Value
Annie 0,0039
Nami 0,0040
Ekko 0,0078
Anivia 0,0157
Jax 0,0236

And the opposite - most unbalanced champions had following numbers:

Champion Absolute Value
Volibear 1,1873
Zoe 1,0876
Gangplank 0,9724
Viktor 0,9323
Fiddlesticks 0,8819

So Annie is about 300 times more balanced than Volibear

Balance by "3" grades - in this method I simply sum up ammount of 3s any champion received from 255 voters. Most balanced champions are:

Champion Ammout of 3s
Blitzcrank 205
Annie 204
Anivia 191
Morgana 187
Ekko 186

And on the opposite are:

Champion Ammount of 3s
Volibear 24
Zoe 36
Viktor 45
Aatrox 47
Gangplank 48

Balance by "extreme" index - last method shows how controversional is champion by percentage ammount of 1 and 5 grades he received. Lower this value is - more balanced is champion.

Champion Extreme index
Annie, Blitzcrank, Rek'Sai 2,75%
Kassadin 3,14%
Anivia, Cassiopeia, Ekko, Kled, Nami, Orianna 3,53%

And most controversial champions are:

Champion Extreme index
Volibear 60,00%
Zoe 53,33%
Mordekaiser 40,39%
Gangplank 38,82%
Fiddlesticks 38,82%

Lanes

Probably most interesting part considering recent dramas about how bad is state of toplane. Is it reality or just our delusions?

In order to make my conclusions plain, champions for each lane are taken from champion.gg list.

Global mean of balance state in the eyes of community is t 2,963. What does it mean? Not as much as it might be expected. This value is really close to perfect value of 3,000, so state of game balance in general is really fine. How does look specific lanes?

Lane Global mean
Top 2,918
Jungle 2,831
Mid 2,989
ADC 3,006
Support 3,030

Ones who complain about how much impact does botlane have - you are not alone. Ardent meta has ended, yet support still remains role with the generally strongest picks in compare to other roles

On the other side is score I find probably the most surprising accross all my research - junglers do struggle in our opinion. Is that influence of rather tanky meta in jungle, where only few picks are contested?

Also toplane is weaker than average, not much more to add, everything has been said in last few weeks.

Midlane seems to be the most balanced right out there. Champion diversity is really big - from control and burst mages, to poke champions up to assassins.

Chromas for lunar revel skins

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 07:49 AM PST

Got tired about reading 5 posts of people complaining they didn't get the skin when they unlocked the chroma for the lunar revel skins. Skins never came for free when you bought a chroma, especially not when only tokens/be were involved.

Guys, have you ever bought a phone case and asked at the checkout why you don't get a free iPhone with it since you bought a phone case for it? No why would you, you know you have to own a phone when buying a phone case. So please use your brain even in League. Thx for your time!

RP wise isn't champions a little too expensive?

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 09:05 AM PST

This isn't talking about how much they cost in BE, but how much they cost in RP. Isn't it a bit pricey to have a 6,300 BE champ cost 975 Rp? That's about $7 in real money. I know it's always been like that but it just seems way to pricey compared to a 975 RP skin you can buy instead. What do you guys think?

Will Riot update Fantasy?

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 08:47 AM PST

With the introduction of franchising to the league, i feel like having a fantasy league is something Riot should invest into, and right now their fantasy website is horrid. Updating scores super late, no mobile app, and the still flawed system of how points are awarded. Like seriously how are points not awarded to teams for winning their match? lol. But yeah i hope fantasy will be updated and if anybody knows if Riot has posted anything about it i'd be happy to know.

i watched ~500 HEXTECH CHESTS being opened and here's WHAT I FOUND

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 04:19 AM PST

DISCLAIMER 1: Sorry for the ALL CAPS title, but I can promise you it is NOT clickbait.

DISCLAIMER 2: I mean no ill intention towards Riot Games and League of Legends. I'm just a devoted player who always wanted to sort out the values all things HEXTECH CRAFTING.

DISCLAIMER 3: I use commas as decimal separators. It's how I'm used to writing.

I want to keep the post short, if you want more information you can check the Excel file I created, which explains everything I did with some level of depth.

EXCEL FILE! BEHOLD ALL OF MY RESEARCH!

All in all, I watched a couple of videos (which I selected carefully) of Hextech Chest openings, which mounted up to ~500 HEXTECH CHEST OPENINGS. The factors that determined my choice for the videos were:

  • None or minimal editing. I wanted to be sure the videos were safe from any bias. For example, I didn't select Redmercy's video, because he cut some of the more boring openings (which is completely understandable, but for the sake of research would succ dicc).

  • They had to date from after the Preseason, when some major drop rate changes were put in place.

You can find the video URL's in the Excel file.

Just before we dive in: BE is Blue Essence, OE is Orange Essence and RP is Rito Points.

This is pretty much what I found (you can find more statistics in the Excel file, I chose to write here only the ones I deemed most important). Starting with the DROP RATES:

  • BASE Chance: These mount up to 100% drop chance. One of these ALWAYS drops from a Hextech Chest.

Champion Shard: 30%

Skin Shard: 57%

Emotes: 8%

Ward Skin: 3%

Summoner Icons + 150 OE: 2% I concluded, during my research, that Summoner Icons are ALWAYS accompanied by some extra 150 OE. Similarly, low-priced champions are always accompanied by some extra 150 (for 1350 BE champs) / 200 (for 450 BE champs) BE.

  • EXTRA Chance: These are sepparate from the BASE drop rate and can happen anytime. That means they don't interfere with the drop rates of any of the items above.

Chest + Key: 7,50%

Gemstone: ~2% Of all the values, this one is the roughest. 500 Chests might seem like a bigass sample, but it still is rather small when he Gemstone drop rate is so little.

  • SOME NOTORIOUS QUICC MAFFS:

  • 1 BE is worth approximately 0,20 RP

  • If you consider the Hextech Chest to be the determining "currency exchange" factor, 1 OE is worth approximately 0,72 RP

  • The value of a Hextech Chest, not considering EXTRA loot, is placed at 248,79 RP, which would imply a 127,59% relative to the cost when purchased from a Chest+Key Bundle.

  • The value of a Hextech Chest, considering the EXTRA Chest&Key, is placed at 267,45 RP, which would imply a 137,16% relative to the cost when purchased from a Chest+Key Bundle.

  • The value of a Hextech Chest, considering the EXTRA Chest&Key AND Gemstone, is placed at AROUND 267,45 RP, which would imply a 137,16% relative to the cost when purchased from a Chest+Key Bundle.

  • The value of a Gemstone is about 1200,43 RP

  • The value of a Hextech Skin is about 12004,31 RP

  • That would place the value of a Hextech Skin relative to its oportunity cost at, approximately, 123,12%

Hope you appreciate my post. If you have any doubts, take a look into the Excel file. If you still don't understand/agree, feel free to drop a comment. I will also be looking into the Lunar Revel stuff, stay tuned! ;) (Just a hint: Revel Orbs are looking like cheap manure xd)

TL:DR: What does this mean? First, when I say a Chest has a relative value of 137%, it means you are getting 1,37 times the value you pay for it in RP. Is it worth the money? I dunno lol. That's up to you. But is it worth the RP? Depends. For instance, if you purchase a skin on 50% sale, its relative value is of 200% (relative to what skins normally are valued at). In that scenario, 200%>137% therefore it would be more WORTH THE RP, per se, if you spent it on the skin on sale. However, 137%>100%, which means purchasing a Chest is, technically, worth more than buying stuff from the store at full value.

EDIT1: Added Disclaimer 3

EDIT2: Added TL;DR

Why is Zhonya allowed in the Blood Moon game mode but GA isn't?

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 11:35 AM PST

title

Those two are supposed to be kind of an equivalent for AD and AP users. Zhonya negates burst and so does GA. Seems bit unlogical to only put one into the gamemode.

EDIT: I should specify I don't wish for them both to be in the game mode, quite the opposite. None of these items should be.
