800+ hours into CIV VI, and this is the first time I've noticed this sentence is wrong...

I accidentally nuked a friendly civ unit passing by behind the fog of war. 2 turns later...

Sister Cities

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 06:12 AM PST

Just a random thought I had. The new expansion pack for Civ VI emphasizes the role of cities for your Civilization using the Loyalty and Governor mechanic. Now, more than ever, the cities might actually look unique in how they develop instead of just another place to get strategic resources or build districts.

Playing with the individuality of each city, I like the idea of sister cities. I have a vague idea of what the sisterhood of cities actually do but I like the idea that cities that are very far away from each other (e.g. Osaka & San Francisco) can be considered sister cities. I read that they have diplomatic relations that could encourage trade and tourism.

I like the concept of having diplomacy not limited to the civilization but with cities too. I also have a couple of ideas about how the dev team might actually implement this as well. One idea is making tourism on both cities increase after a number of turns. Another may be like sharing 1 amenity from respective worked luxury resources for the two sister cities (since a luxury resource gives four amenities but only one amenity to each city; instead of giving the other amenities to the other cities of your civilization, the city diplomacy mechanic could allow you to give it to another civilization and get another one yourself but for the source city. This mechanic makes it viable to play tall. Instead of needing an extra copy of a luxury resource to get more amenities, you could get +3 more amenities just by trading (via city trade) one luxury resource. This makes one city grow more than it usually can.

Why isn’t emigration built into Civ games?

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST

In real life many people flee war and poverty to big, rich cities. Apart from being annoying for players, why isn't emigration a part of civilization?

Any reason there’s no First Look today?

They teased a new leader (Chandragupta, I think), but usually they post the First Looks at ~2:30 EST on Tuesday.

What's up?

Never Played a Civ game before... Which one should I buy?

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:13 AM PST

Hey guys... I have never played a Civ game but I always thought that i would like them. I noticed that on steam that Civ 5 and 6 are both on sale.

  • Civ 5 is on sale for $7.50 or $12.25 for the complete Bundle.

  • Civ 6 is on sale for $30 or $40 for the digital deluxe version.

Three of us are going to be playing together for the first time. Which should we buy?

Explanation for The Rashidun UA ?

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 09:36 AM PST

Hi guys, I jumped on the complete bundle a few weeks ago and have recently started to fiddle with mods ! However, I am having a hard time understanding this particular UA :

"Your Faith output is the starting Production threshold towards all land units." from The Rashidun Caliphate by TarcisioCM.

I'm not a native english speaker so a bit of help would be greatly appreciated !

Nuclear aftermath questions

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 05:26 PM PST

Do people actually have nuclear war with the AI? Where you actually nuke them and then they nuke you back or vice versa.

Could the world be completely destroyed by nukes to the point where no one could win? Except for turn victory.

Also when a wonder is destroyed do you loose the bonus from the wonder and can you repair it. I've never gotten nuked myself. Can you repair the wonder and how much of the original production cost do you need?

How anyone ever lost their capital and still won the game?
