I don't miss old minecraft, there's a deeper issue... Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST EDIT: added a tl;dr I regularly see and read the discussions about old vs new minecraft, and i'd like to share my point of view on the subject and hope to spark some respectful discussion as a result TL;DR DOWN BELOW! New features aren't the problem to meContrary to the most popular mentioned reason to dislike minecraft's current state, I don't think the newer features are to blame. In fact, I love most of the features! The newer blocks from stained clay and glass to all the properly wooded doors, fences, etc, are all a godsent to someone who loves building, like me. The only thing I liked more about old versions compared to current, was the terrain generation of pre-beta-1.8. I love ravines, and other such special generation rules, but the entirety just feels blander... I loved the whacky terrain in older version. The current just feels too "realistic" for a game centered around imagination. I feel very neutral to other much debated things such as the combat changes, though I definitely see why you might love or hate it. Then what's the problem?Like i just said, I love building. Not just building, but survival building. The kind of building where you earned the materials needed to make your build through hard work and dedication, and having your build be a true source of pride because of it. This pride is even greater when you do the build on a multiplayer server where you can show it off to friends and strangers alike. Herein lies the true problem I have with current minecraft. The community is no longer centered around minecraftWhen was the last time you went on a survival server that wasn't PVP oriented (local hosting doesn't count... I'm talking about public servers)? That means no faction plugins, or other pvp-related plugins. When was the last time you even went on a survival in the first place? If the answer to the latter is at least half a year ago, then the servers you frequent are likely mini-game servers, since those are very popular. Ofcourse, there's nothing wrong with liking minigames, I enjoy them myself whenever I feel like a fun game of Ghost hunt or Smash. Here's the problem though: Finding good survival servers with a decent community is much harder than some make it out to be, I've tried often enough... Half the whitelist applications are never answered, and if they are accepted, the server often shuts down within a month or two due to it being too small and not fun enough because of that. Unwhitelisted servers are a no-go because griefers make your life a living hell even with proper protection plugins. This problem is amplified by the fact that if you want a bare-bones VANILLA server, that is, only griefing-protection plugins, you're in for an even harder search... Minecraft is no longer minecraft. It's no longer a game, but a platform for other games. They might as well call it "FactionsMiniGames", since "mining" and "crafting" are now side-activities. The old minecraft magic people talk about was, to me, that feeling of being a community, building a virtual world to your liking with old and newly made friends. Atleast, that's my take on the issue of "old versus current Minecraft. TL:DRDespite the community having grown in size, server selection seems to converge to just a few megaservers with the same "please everyone with ALL the gamemodes" mentality, causing lovers of small-community vanilla survical like me to become disgruntled with multiplayer outside of local hosting with friends. I'd like to hear your opinion on the points that i brought up. Do you disagree that the current game is better off now, feature wise? Do you think the community is in a better place than before or do you agree with me? [link] [comments]

Is anyone else frustrated when they play Multiplayer on a survival server? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:43 AM PST It seems that every time I find a nice vanilla server and get whitelisted, most of the players are too spread out on the map for any interaction to happen beyond chat. Most of the time, when I play on these servers, I do so because I want to play with other people. That can't really happen if there aren't any people within 1,000 blocks of each other. I think it would be a lot more interesting if servers set up their own world border so players would be closer together. [link] [comments]

Steer clear of "TheMinecraftHosting" Posted: 26 Dec 2017 12:34 AM PST This has been said before unfortunately, but I'll say it again just to raise awareness. I was stupid enough not to look into them deep enough to just deduce from basic reasoning that this is a scummy and awful hosting provider. This was mostly due to me being on a deadline to get dedicated hosting as quick as possible. To start out, it is extremely evident the amount of bad reviews this hosting "company" provides. They will steal your money and give you a shitty service/no server at all. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.theminecrafthosting.com People have stated this on many forums and many posts before, and they all seem to say the same thing. They're unprofessional. They're condescending. They are rude. Their support is nonexistent. It's laughable, and unfortunately, it's true. I started with them because I was running very close to a deadline on getting server for my very large community, we hyped a project and we were getting close to release and I still didn't have a dedicated provider. So I fell into their trap of offering ridiculously cheap prices (50% off forever) and of course it's too good to be true obviously. It started out by me setting everything up on their control panel and it turns out that their control panel is mostly unresponsive. Their machines are unresponsive. I can't send/unpack my server files through their FTP access-point. It's fine, I'll open a support ticket, a day passes and I receive no response. Wasn't even the holidays. Now, on the front page of their website they have at the bottom right corner a livechat ticket area. https://gyazo.com/72eaaf153a892b6c128dd864c530593c https://gyazo.com/c9361fb523aeb46f87b2c4345d763a1e now most companies use this, I figured since they didn't get back to me in the other ticket area, this could work. I open a ticket in the livechat and it emails me with the process has been created. I was waiting for 3 days and no response. At this point I asked for a fruitless refund because of course their ToS states a 24-hour refund period, and they don't even respond, so they can't really lose. I take it to paypal to be disputed, and the "owner" of the company I presume messages me back and forth in condescending manner (I wish paypal didn't delete these comments after I ascended the dispute to a claim) and tells me that I shouldn't have used the livechat "FEATURE" on their website because they don't use livechat tickets. They don't even respond to them. I call him out on why even put it on your website in the first place then if you don't even use it and he changes the subject. They don't really care at all. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that their "18" staff members are actually just one very angry 16 year old European who's upset with the world. In the end, they are scummy and most likely just one or two people running their "gig". They will take your money, not respond to anything, and have a broken and unresponsive setup.
