New To Zelda - Where To Start?

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 08:01 AM PST

Bought a 2DS a year or two ago to mainly play Pokemon, looking to get into some more of its library and figured why not Zelda? There's a few different ones so I'm just wondering which one would make the best starting point. Any replies are appreciated.

Considering BOTW DLC #2 is supposed to take place after defeating Ganon...

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:37 AM PST

Apparently Aonuma confirmed this at the french "japan expo". So here is my question : How do you think monsters respawn will be handle ? Since Ganon is defeated I guess there won't be any blood moon anymore.

I know there are a lot of speculation regarding DLC #2 but this a question that has been bugging me for some time now. We will either play in another portion of the map, or some fundamental mechanics will change.

What do you think ?

My first ever Zelda

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:07 AM PST

So I was debating getting a switch for a while and on Friday I finally gave in to the temptation and wow this game. I am blown away first of all it looks gorgeous when docked but the sheer amount of stuff in mind blowing. I literally spent 2 hours just cooking food to see what concoctions I could cook up haha!! It is the first time in a LONG time I don't wanna go to work cause all I wanna do is play! If you guys have any good starter info for me it would be very much appreciated. Can't wait to to delve deeper in to this game.

Can't activate memory cutscene? [BOTW]

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 08:39 AM PST

I'm replaying BOTW for the first time since March, and I'm trying to unlock all the memories. I talked to Impa, messed around and went to all the towers, and 30 hours later I decided it's time to start doing the story missions. I talked to some guy in Kakariko village and I did a quest for him and he pointed me in the direction of one of the memories (the one on Lanayru road with the black/red Lynel near it) so I went there, but there was no glowing circle to trigger the cutscene. I am 100% positive I am in the right spot, I even looked it up online because I was worried that my game might be glitching. I have talked to Impa and have been given the photographs, and just to be sure I killed the Lynel, Hinox, and Moblin near the area because I couldn't remember if I had to clear the area before triggering the cutscene. Nothing worked. I saved and reloaded my game and still nothing. Like I said, it's been since March since I beat BOTW, and I only got a few memories. This time around I'm going for the good ending and I'm confused as to why this isn't working.

Breath of the Wild Story Retrospective Rant

Posted: 19 Nov 2017 09:26 PM PST

This is probably gonna be a long read, but I think it'll be kinda interesting!

Take this with a grain of salt, because I come from the camp that rips on BOTW for the lack of story... but that's not what this post is for!

While I totally get what Breath was going for in terms of true player freedom (which leads to sacrifice of a real story) and that's okay!

But I was thinking to myself what about Breath's story (or lack there of) that I enjoyed my first play through.

Then it hit me.

Yes, there's one part of the story that shines brighter than all the other parts.

The main quest in BOTW is to basically defeat Calamity Ganon. The four main quests for the different races are essentially glorified side quests in my book on the way to the main objective.

There is one race quest in particular is just as engaging as my favorite Zelda side quest, the Kafei and Anju side quest from Majora's Mask. That one is the Zora storyline.

This, like many others, was the first quest you stumbled upon... which is bad because it set the bar WAY higher than the others.

You come across this strapping, young, charismatic Zora (and the best side character in the game easy) in Prince Sidon. He charms you into journeying up the stream in the rain because he believes you can help his people. So that part stands out already. You get to the domain and learn of how Vah Ruta will flood all of Hyrule if the rain continues. That's a big deal, so you really wanna help these guys.

See the thing I noticed the Zora storyline had more than the others was the true gravity of the situation. The problem with the other people is that they have only heard of Link and haven't met him. But all the Zora's can live for hundreds of years... and because they live so long, they all remember you from before the Great Calamity.

The little kids from a hundred years ago are now adult Zora's protecting the domain. King Donephan remembers you and the times you spent with Mipha and how much she really loved you.

Speaking of Mipha, even though all the Champions weren't as developed as I woulda liked, there was always something about her that made me care a little bit more.

And it hit me again when I realized all the Zora's were alive back then and held Mipha in high regard. Muzu hates you because he all but blames you for her death. Even after your quest you can catch Sidon at her statue wondering if her spirit is still in Ruta and he misses her desperately and wishes she was there to give him more words of guidance.

Also, the whole set piece of battling Ruta on Sidon with the shock arrows is definitely the coolest part of the game.

I feel like now the more I think about it, if the game really showed how Link's absence really hurt them like it did with the Zoras, the story could have been really solid for a non-linear game.

Like the other races didn't have any personal connections with the Champions from a hundred years ago, but if there was some ways to flesh out some relationships with the Champions and present day people in the game then every other race's quest could have been as engaging as the plight of the Zora's was. (And also that bullshit escort quest with Yunobo or whatever... I hated that soooo much)

TL;DR: The Zora quest line was the most engaging because it really encapsulated the situation of BOTW. Links been incapacitated for a hundred years, they lost their Champion because of Calamity Ganon, and that in turn affects the story when completing the Zora quest since they all know you from 100 years ago. This also is unfortunate because it was so good and usually the first one you complete so the other ones don't feel as wholesome.

Changing the Mood of the Zelda Soundtrack from Happy to Sad, Sad to Happy

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:14 AM PST

Hello r/Zelda!

I've been working on a little project where I modify the soundtrack of our favourite Zelda games to give off different moods! I do this by simply changing the mode of the song, or what scale it's in.

For example I took the Kokiri Forest theme and changed it from Ionion (the first and most common mode, used for happy music) to Dorian (a more mysterious and moody mode, used in the Temple of Time). So the effect is a song that would play in Kokiri Forest that would have the same gravity as the Temple of Time.

It's a pretty neat effect, especially since we've come to love these tracks so much throughout the years.. let me know what you think! The playlist with all the songs: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxq2c1XUCtV1xTLqn4GS5EDkvBuZO4NIr

I'm switching consoles and i don't want to slug through what i've already done :(

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:02 AM PST

So recently i've decided to buy a 3DS and at the same time, buy the new zelda remasters ( Majora's mask, Ocarina of Time etc ) But a couple of days ago, it struck me like a bullet.

" If i decide to buy these games, i'll have no way to transfer my saves from N64 to 3DS, so i'll have to slug through every last tear jerking minute until i get back to where i was! " - Me when the thought bullet struck me.

In MM i'm at the Great Bay section of the game, and at OOT i've just finished Dodongo's Cavern. I really don't want to be discouraged from buying these new versions, i'm just scared about having to get all the way back to where i was.

Looking for emotional and logical support. Thanks :D

I just discovered this incredible music.

Would've been nice if this game had been in 60FPS.

Posted: 19 Nov 2017 06:26 PM PST

Now, I don't consider myself a graphics whore or anywhere near being a graphics whore. Initially I had no problem with BotW's 30FPS. But after playing Odyssey and deciding to boot up Breath of the Wild again the difference is pretty jarring. This is going to take some getting used to. Anybody else feel similarly?
