Why Mr. Game and Watch is Hilariously Underrated Posted: 23 Nov 2017 07:09 AM PST ... in casual play, of course. Now, I'm not here to say G-dubs is a secret top tier in competitive tournament play. We all know that's not the case. But I strongly believe his true strengths come out in FFAs with items on, and that he's the 3rd-best casual character out there, behind Ganon and Falcon. Reason 1: The BucketGame and Watch's bucket is an incredibly useful tool in items-on matches for one reason: the vast majority of the most dangerous items in the game are explosives. G&W can bucket every single one of them. This makes the bucket into a FRAME TWO INSTAKILL "GET OFF ME" OPTION WITH A MASSIVE HITBOX THAT TRUE COMBOS OUT OF UP TILT AND DOWN THROW. From my casual experience, escape options and "get off me" tools are underrated and crucial in casual play, and G&W has one of the best. Reason 2: The TrampolineEven without a full bucket, G&W's up-B puts out a windbox frame 2 and a hitbox frame 9, allowing it to be one of his best escape tools. Besides, its lingering nature makes it an excellent survival move. Finally, it has great synergy with his dair. Reason 3: The KeyEven more important than an escape option is a landing option, and with Up-B and Dair, G-dubs has both, especially because free-for-alls are too hectic to punish dair's 28 frames of landing lag. Besides, even if you whiff, its frame 1 landing hitbox ensures you get at least some damage off. Reason 4: The HammerCasuals love chaos, and what's more chaotic than the luck-of-the-draw, big-balls kill move, Judge? If you get lucky, G-dubs has ANOTHER super low percent kill option out of down throw. Reason 5: WindboxesThey can fuck with so many combos, confirms, and simple interactions as a third party, allowing you to swooce right in and get the kill. ConclusionNow, I can guarantee /u/dankdorfydisr3spect is going to be right up in that comment section refuting every point I made, and that's alright. I'm just talking from my perspective. And from my perspective, Game and Watch is a surprisingly viable titan of casual play. His bucket neutralizes some of the most dangerous items in the game and turns them into one of the most powerful advantages any character in the game can have, his Up-B and dair are great casual escape and landing options, his hammer is hilariously effective if you get lucky, and his windboxes are just stupid. Edit: Don't ask me too much though I'm just a simple Cloud main trying to find his way in the universe [link] [comments]

Melee esports viewership in October 2017 Posted: 23 Nov 2017 12:05 PM PST https://newzoo.com/insights/rankings/top-games-twitch/ After being absent in August and September, Melee is back on the top 10 at 8th, with 1.2 million esports hours watched on Twitch, close to the 1.3M we had in July. October's biggest tournaments were: GTX's last day, DreamHack Denver, The Big House 7, Canada Cup and Too Hot To Handle. DH Denver: ~209k hours watched. That leaves ~885-900k for TBH7, GTX's last day and all the other tournaments streamed in October. I couldn't find numbers for TBH7 or GTX's last day because the websites that track twitch viewership are very limited in terms of tracking specific streams within a certain period, and both were mainly streamed by VGBC, which has a ton of different Melee streams in a given month. Still, VGBC had ~745k hours of Melee watched in October, so that should give a rough estimate. Newzoo takes a while to release the ranking, but I'm pretty sure we'll do well in November again, since Summit 5 alone had ~1.050 million (!) hours of Melee watched. [link] [comments]

Is Super Smash Bros. Melee the most consistent game you know? Posted: 23 Nov 2017 11:05 AM PST Personally, I don't closely follow any other competitive scene, but it seems like Melee is just ridiculously consistent. I wonder if there are other games that are just as consistent, if not more than Melee. For instance, chess, go? Turn based games with no rng seem like they would be incredibly consistent to me but I don't really know. I know tennis has a few players that seem to win most things. Those of you who follow other competitive scenes, drop that knowledge! Edit: I actually don't know if Melee is the most consistent Smash game, if I had to bet on it I'd say so, but perhaps 64 has even less variance? I don't actually know. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 01:06 PM PST My opponent played mewtwo game 1 and I made a comment like, "Wow I understand peoples complaints about mewtwo now." and game 2 he switched to someone else and after the game earnestly asked if that character was looked down upon. I didnt mean anything extra about the comment, but I feel I came across, "You shouldn't play that character because I/people dont like it." Im used to playing with a different group where typical responses to that kind of comment is, "Yeah, its real good.", "git gud.", or "stop getting caught by it then." I tried to explain that I used to play Mewtwo a bit and people complained about the up-smash slide to catch air stuff and, after playing against it, I see what they meant now. But I think it was too late and he already didn't want to play him because he didn't want to play someone "cheap" (not a concept I believe in smash.) I hope he just plays who he wants to play, regardless of what his opponents want. I feel bad that I made him feel bad about it. [link] [comments]
