Escape from Braxis is wonderful. Please give me more!

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 07:49 AM PST

I typically don't care for brawls. If I do them, it's usually just for the chest.

I actually WANT to play this brawl. It feels like a SC campaign or a WoW raid with a boss that you actually MUST watch your positioning.

So much nostalgia here. Please keep going in this direction.

DON'T STAND IN THE FIRE!!

Cheered +$100 worth of bits for "Emote Pack - In Memoriam" reward, received incorrect reward when claimed. Twitch support after +2 weeks finally responds with a human: "Sorry but Twitch was not involved with the distribution"

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 01:49 PM PST

Buyer BEWARE! This is the second time something went from with my twitch HGC cheer rewards. First time after weeks, they finally resolved it (I had received FNATIC items instead of DIG items, when I had only cheered and claimed DIG items, a bug in their system).

This time, for the ~$100 bits of 11k bits cheered reward, the "Emote Pack - In Memoriam" reward, I instead got the "Sweet Phrases" emote pack when I claimed it, which is the 13k bits reward. I only cheered 11k bits (obviously I stopped once the bug occurred and I got conned out of my reward).

After +2 weeks of emailing twitch support, and getting the same absolutely irrelevant copy paste response over and over, I got this response written by a human:

"Greetings,

Sorry but Twitch was not involved with the distribution of the Blizzard titles for this promotion.

Best wishes, Twitch Support"

Which, by the way, is an absolute lie. When I had issues with the in game spray reward (got FNATIC instead of DIG spray) Blizzard was very helpful and they explained that indeed, this issue is completely on twitch's end. They "send out the codes" the activate the items. Blizzard recommended that I keep asking twitch "resend the codes" because that will fix it.

So after trying to contact twitch yet again for weeks, I finally had them comprehend the issue and resend the codes, and I got the DIG spray finally.

Understand that the big issue with this is that if you "claim" a reward and receive the wrong one, you're completely SOL because you can't press the "claim" button again. Your reward is "claimed." So even if you pay more $$$$$, you can't get what you paid for. But maybe you can... LOL.... contact twitch support? After weeks of getting copy paste responses, good luck with that.

Now, for this 11k bit reward, it seems their answer is "screw you, you're out of luck"

Frankly, I should have learned my lesson the first time.

Of course as a hardcore gamer/whale I like to gamify whatever I can, and watching HGC and cheering constantly was a huge enjoyment for me, and it's absolutely tainted.

Unless this is resolved (and maybe even if it is it won't matter) I can't see myself getting conned by twitch again or ever cheering a pennies worth of bits to this broken HGC program again.

I'm writing this partly for the last ditch effort that maybe someone at Blizz will be able to offer help (I don't count on it, because twitch is not a Blizz company)

but mainly I'm writing this so you know what to watch out for.

You can not have any reasonable expectation that when you pay $$$$, you will get the rewards as advertised.

And as an additional note, yes the correct account is linked, yes no ad block, and so on and so on.

Buyer beware.

Expert reveals new Lineup

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 03:03 PM PST

Thank you for getting f2p right on this one

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 11:39 AM PST

If only that could extend to all other blizzard products (ahem hearthstone....)

I got in on 2.0 with a free hero pack. Since then I've loved playing the game but have never felt obligated to pay money. Sometimes when a new hero comes out like Alex I'll put in a few bucks so I can play her right away. But I could easily grind for a few days and have enough gold.

And I love it. I don't feel exploited, I don't feel like I have to pay to win, and just by casually playing QM for a few months I'm only missing a few heroes after only spending about $20.

So thanks blizzard for getting it right here.

I just have this strange feeling the new Braxis brawl has a hidden message stating: "You liked that PvE experience with Zerg and stuff? Go install Starcraft 2 then, it just got free to play!"

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 05:59 AM PST

Isn't it just a bit more sublime cross promotion? SCII has this massive arcade mode with things exactly like that. And theres free campaign now too.

(hope it is not, it's absolutely fantastic, cheering the team to give us more of these, but still...)

What'ya think?

IMO the new Alex/Hanzo cinematic doesn’t do HotS justice.

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 11:11 AM PST

I was pretty underwhelmed after seeing it and since i felt similar about the one prior with Genji and Diablo, i want to point out some issues that i have with it.

First of all it feels very generic. Starting with the scenery, an uninspired battleground with a lot of fog and randomly placed rooftops and towers, but more importantly the writing! It does a very bad job at bringing the two characters to life. There is no build up what so ever, they just get smashed together. It's a random encounter between two heroes from two different universes that have nothing to do with each other, there is no context and no finesse in creating a relationship between them.

Garrett and Kyle from „Into the Nexus" said it best, at the beginning of the episode which they did at Blizzcon:

https://youtu.be/Jn_F2E9bIFM?t=4m28s

„like 5 year olds playing with two action figures". The writing is just bland. I also feel Kyles joke about the scheduled duel. Why where they even fighting? Why should i care? It feels so artificial.

When i look back at the Genji/Diablo cinematic, same thing: Diablo makes the impression that he got lost and randomly ended up in Hanamura. I don't get the feeling that the Lord of Terror invaded the place, it's more like some random beast, destroying a few things here and there. He doesn't even talk. The only reason for him being there, is because they needed a sand bag for Genji to kick around. Again, the whole scene feels artificial. But at least the fight and its choreography was good.

Also there seems to be a trend going, with overwatch characters getting to beat up everyone else. I get it, Overwatch is Blizzard's most popular franchise, but still, it hurts my soul that Alexstrasza the dragon queen and aspect of life gets one-shot by this archer guy(no offense Hanzo).

But hey, this is HotS after all where everything is possible! Where in some haunted mines, shit hits the fan when in a fight over a bunch of old bones a brazilian DJ dropped the beat a little to late to prevent the literal devil from bringing the apocalypse, everybody gets laser blasted by a giant battlecruiser, squeezing its way through the narrow shafts, as just around the corner the archangel of death himself gets his ass kicked by a cute little murloc.

My point is, the cinematic doesn't invoke any of this. It does not deliver the feeling of this crazy brawl where all these different Blizzard worlds collide in a clash of epic and ridiculous proportions. Instead it's this random encounter between two non-related characters, barely brought together by a half-hearted attempt of a „narrative arc", for the solely purpose of marketing the release of two new heroes.

And this leads to my biggest complaint and what hurts these cinematics the most in my opinion: They do not capture the essence of what HotS truly is. An epic, intense and never-ending team fight. A Brawl. You can't really achieve that with only two heroes fighting each other. Especially not if the reason for why they're fighting and the whole setup are so generic and bland.

Why did the very first HotS cinematic worked so much better than the ones that followed? I think it did, because it delivered on exactly that key feeling of HotS! And then the 'why' and 'where' doesn't even matter anymore, i mean the whole thing takes place in the most uninteresting scenery imaginable: a plain Desert. But it works! The action takes all the spotlight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ecv0bT9DEo

Or what about the Heroes Brawl Trailer, that one was awesome! Embracing HotS for all it's craziness with slapstick, rainbows and fireworks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIordfmxqQM

There are so many ways to bring this amazing game to life with a good cinematic and Blizzard has proven in the past that they can do so successfully, but the next time if they want to focus more on storytelling, they gotta do it right. No more generic writing. If they want to tell a story, they can use the ones the game itself creates and that all of us are familiar with. The intense capturing of an objective, the clutch heal/ultimate that turned the fight around, a big wombo combo! Moments we're experiencing in our own games, and that are some of many the reasons why we love Heroes of the Storm! Get in the head of us players! Like they did in the new animated short for Overwatch, which is basically a tutorial for the community on how to play Reinhardt.

Both the Overwatch and WoW cinematics at Blizzcon were amazing. Especially War for Azeroth, that one is a masterpiece… seriously how good is that cinematic??? It may be the best one Blizzard has ever done and that says something! HotS looked so pale in comparison. And i know, the HotS cinematic probably didn't even had half of the budget than those of WoW and Overwatch, but i feel that's not an excuse, especially since the technical quality of the animation is not where the shortcomings lie.

What are your opinions about this, am i totally exaggerating? Did you enjoy watching it? And if not, what would you rather see in a HotS cinematic?

cheers

Escape from Braxis will hopefully be a move in the right direction

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 12:40 AM PST

This new type of brawl really is a fresh breath of air and very well needed to this already great game. I had a few thoughts of how maybe they could expand upon this in the future.

Bring in similar PvE maps but with theme of other universes. Having a Warcraft or Diablo themed one would be amazing and pretty sure would make some people who were big fans of wc3/diablo (not very much for mobas) give this game a shot. Heck, maybe they'd even get hooked into the regular game!

Other additions that I think would be welcomed would be difficulty levels and arcade mode as in Overwatch. This brawl wad fun, but still pretty easy. Some extra difficulties and more boss stratergies for the ones who wants a bigger challange could make people play it a lot more.

Arcade mode would be great because sometimes, you don't feel like playing a serious game or even a normal QM game. Something different is needed, but what if your favourite brawl is not up this week? Instead of waiting for weeks for one that you like, maybe add 4 popular brawls + a changing one every week? It would add a ton of variety and enjoyment to the players.

Thank you so much for this amazing game Blizzard, really hope we will see even more PvE content and hopefully an option to play them whenever!

TL;DR, bring similar PvE content in the future with other universes, selectable difficulties and Arcade mode pretty please

New update to the way Canadian currency is displayed in Blizzard games has fucked us over

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 09:45 AM PST

I hope someone can maybe give me some advice here. You see, despite the Canadian dollar being worth slightly less than the American dollar, pricing in Heroes of The Storm was always displayed in American currency, $10 American for 1,000 gems, etc. I had no problem with this, I understood that in reality I'd be paying more than $10 since it would automatically adjust for Canadian currency. Recently however there was an update to the way this works. Here is what it looks like now: https://imgur.com/a/HWLjB

Instead of allowing us to buy 1,000 gems at a slightly inflated price, we only have the option of spending $10 Canadian for a slightly deflated amount of gems. The problem with this is that in order for me to buy the right amount of gems, I would actually have to purchase the gem package a level above what I really need. To buy a 30-day stimpack I would have to buy the $20 gem package instead of the $10. This also means that I'd need to spend $100 for more than enough gems to buy the discounted 360-day stimpack. I'm really not sure why they adjusted for the prices in such a backwards and stupid way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Suggestion for Current Brawl: Multiple Difficulties

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 05:43 AM PST

Lets us pick a difficulty (like normal, hard or heroic) at the start of the Brawl. If it's a problem for pugs, make it available only for groups of 5 friends.

Theory about Escape From Braxis

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 11:04 AM PST

I think Braxis was originally intended for Firebat's release in January... evidenced by the leaked incomplete Brightwing Zerg skin... it appears to me that other skins released around that time were meant to include a Zerg Stitches and a Primal Zerg Diablo, with Grunty getting a new tint that was meant to look somewhat infested.

Afterall, in the brawl Stitches is listed as "Abberation Stitches" yet uses his base skin and Diablo as "Primal Diablo", yet uses his Kaiju Skin. Meaning they're intended for this mode, yet look strangely out of place... because the skins they're supposed to have are not yet finished.

The trailer for Firebat is supposed to take place on Braxis and features the heroes getting stuck on Braxis only to be saved by the as of yet unnamed Firebat (my money's on Jack Frost being his name)

So why is Escape From Braxis being done now instead of for Firebat's release?

Because at the end of the day Heroes Of The Storm is an advertising vehicle for Blizzard's other products and previous release dates PROVE this

Tracer came out around Overwatch's launch

Valeera launched with a Demon Hunter skin, which launched with Legion (which added playable Blood Elf and Night Elf Demon Hunters)

Maltheal and Bone Xul launched around Rise Of The Necromancer

Stukov launched around the time pre-orders went up for Starcraft Remastered (Stukov's playable SC2 version was even given out for free if you pre-ordered said remaster)

Starcraft 2 just had a big free to play update, meaning Heroes HAD to have something Starcraft related to launch, but since nothing was finished, they decided to just do Escape From Braxis early since all it was missing were skins for Stitches and Diablo and a tint for Murky which are only cosmetic changes, not gameplay ones. It's not like they could just whip up a new skin right quick, most of the staff are out on Thanksgiving break.

It's also worth noting that a lot of skins were pulled from the Pre-Alpha such as Maurdin Muradin and Space Marine ETC, where EVERYONE had a Starcraft skin as default (except for Arthas, Sylvanas, Nazeebo, and Samuro for some reason)..... Stitches did have a Zerg AND Terran skin around this time.

What do you think of my theory?

Can we please just select heroes for QP like we do in the Braxis brawl?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 04:20 PM PST

However QP picks matchups or team compositions is pretty universally condemned. It's literally a pleasant surprise to get a comp that's viable or in any way matches each team appropriately.

For those that don't want to go through a lengthly draft, if each team could just pick heroes together it would eliminate at least one of those problems. Like in Overwatch quickplay to use a non-HOTS example.

I know this would add complications like the development of a QP team comp meta, but this still seems a massive improvement over what we have now.

Can we get an arcade mode so we can have the best brawls constantly available? Braxis, Blackhearts, Pull Party?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 12:17 AM PST

Actually, not just this brawl, but all of them. We need to have a way to always play these brawls, and I think it's time HotS got an arcade mode similar to OW, having the brawls all available there, as the blizzard devs have done amazing jobs making ones like this, and it's such a shame to see them go within a week or 2

New to Hots is there a lane meta?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 06:21 PM PST

Im coming over from Leauge of Legends, and am wondering if there is a lane or role each hero is expected to do? Im mainly playing because I love the Diablo and Starcraft characters and would hate to cause a bad time for everyone by taking lets say the Crusader into the completly wrong lane.

Mephisto's laugh can be heard in Escape from Braxis

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 10:36 AM PST

Not sure anyone's posted it yet but I know you Diablo 2 fans that have tried the new brawl out have heard this...

Any time Infested Stukov shows up you can here Mephisto's laugh, the same laugh he has after saying "You're too late.." when you fight him in the Durance of Hate lvl 3.

Teasing our next Prime Evil release perhaps? :D

Edit: I suppose I may be wrong, this is the closest laugh I could compare out of Stukov's voice lines, and this is the Mephisto's laugh. Rather similar but I feel like the one you hear in the Brawl sounds a lot different then the one in Stukov's voice lines. I suppose further inspection is required.

If you guys like Escape From Braxis, you might actually want to try SC2

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 11:51 AM PST

I've been seeing a ton of posts about how this should be a separate game mode, how you all love it.

If you really want more of this kind of gameplay, you really should check out SC2. Sc2 doesn't have the variety or volume of custom games that BW or WC3 did, but it still has a ton of really fun custom games.

The entire mobile gaming industry and the MOBA genre are just derivatives of popular Broodwar, WC3, and SC2 custom games.

Pull party and escape from braxis are both just derivatives of WC3 custom games. I don't remember the name of the pull party custom game, but escape from braxis seems like those resident evil/special forces/survival custom games (or like the x-men UMS map from broodwar).

Tip when using Alexs' Abundance: You can use it to direct the flow of your teammates!

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 09:48 AM PST

So I've been using Alex quite a bit, and I've found the placement of Abundance has more use then just a heal. Lots of players will get tunnel vision and chase when they shouldn't, and a lot of players don't realize advantageous situations and will not chase or pursue when you should. Depending where you place the Abundance, you can directly influence the flow of combat outside of pings, which are much easier to ignore. I've supported people who have disengaged when the enemy starts running, and by casting Abundance forward, my teammates will move forward for the heal and continue fighting, and I've casted it behind teammates to get them to move back from a bad engagement. It feels really good to have a bit of subliminal command over what your teammates do, especially when it works out in your teams favour. Using Abundance to push your team forward and that ends up securing kills is really rewarding, and saving teammates from certain death by making them move backwards feels great as a support. Maybe this was the intended use of the ability besides just the strategic heal of it, but it has way more utility then I initially thought.
