Self Post Sundays! - July 09, 2017

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 09:09 PM PDT

To foster more discussion about the games every Sunday we turn the subreddit into self-post only mode.

Self-Post Sundays are our main discussion day. On those days we only allow text posts directly about the games themselves.

Please save your images, fan art, screenshots, videos, etc to the other days of the week. Use this day to discuss the games. Other posts will be removed.

I saw Eiji Aonuma + more at the Louvre today! (pics in description)

I was lining up at the Louvre, and to my left I noticed some body guards. I then noticed it was Aonuma and proceeded to lose my shit. I played it cool, and saw them a couple more times within the Louvre. I saw him next to the Mona Lisa and said hi, and he said hi back. He knew I was staring at them because I saw them giggle to eachother :)

Cant believe I saw Eiji Aonuma in the flesh, its been one of my goals in life (as corny as that sounds!)

When you try using Stasis during a big showdown, but forgot you equipped the Camera instead...

Picked this up at my local game store, thought you guys would appreciate

I would love the transformation masks from Majoras Mask as BOTW dlc

I feel like it would fit really well and make traversing the world really fun and a lot quicker. Turn into a Zora to swim through the ocean, Goron for rolling over long distances, deku for.... impressing Zelda with pretty twirls.

[BoTW] No one expects the Tree Guardian...

Can someone help me figure out what fish I saw in BOTW?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 09:31 AM PDT

So I was swimming back from the Ritaag Zumo Shrine (the one in the middle of the giant spiral off the east coast of Akkala) when I saw this big orange fish with white stripes that looked different from any of the freshwater fish I'd seen in the game. I tried swimming after it but ran out of stamina and drowned. Does anyone know what fish it is? It was much taller than any of the river fish I'd seen.

[BotW] PSA: Your horse can autopilot

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 08:25 PM PDT

Just get on a road and your horse will follow it automatically. Just realized this after 40 hours in.

What's your favorite Zelda game? Excluding BOTW and OoT.

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 10:11 PM PDT

I recently bought a Wii U and noticed there's a bunch of Zelda games on the eShop. Both new and old stuff from various platforms. The only one I've played in full was Ocarina of Time. I absolutely loved it. I don't have the money for BOTW, it's why I excluded it from the question.

Side question. I can't remember the name of a particular Zelda game on the GameBoy where you could steal from a store to get your stuff, and he can catch you and kill you. I played it briefly and it was cool. On the bottom of the world. There was a beach.

Edit: deleted first post to fix title.

BotW is the No Man's Sky we waited for.

I occasionally go back to those trailers of NMS and try to understand what it was that I expected or wanted from the game. What got me so excited about it? I think I expected a huge world/universe where everything is unknown and I would stumble around and find neat or amazing things randomly in my travels. On mission > traveling to destination > sees strange area on the way > sidetracks to look it over > finds interesting or noteworthy thing. NMS gave a promise of endless worlds with something new and interesting around every corner. A world teeming with discoveries... I know you know where this is going.

While NMS did none of this, BotW did. It may not have been emergent or endless but maybe NMS taught us that isnt always a good thing. BotW has a massive, finely detailed world with something around every corner. Every time I went out I found some new amazing thing or even a small puzzle to delight my curiosity. NMS did not reward curiosity. You go to a planet, take its minerals and leave because you know there is nothing else on that planet. Zelda has 900 korok seeds because it wants to make sure every inch of the game is peppered with something worth doing. Or maybe it was being deep in the mountains and finding a huge stone sword buried in the snow, or an sand-covered stone structure eerily named Arbiter's Grounds, or spiraling sandbar by the sea offering a puzzle, or Gorons tucked away under the mountain in competition, or a some mythical creature floating by as you struggle up a cliff. The amount of discoveries in that game are astounding.

NMS gave me an impression of adventure, something to do just around every corner. Some strange space being or alien structure tucked away on each planet. BotW is just that. Small wonder it is one of the best games I have in many, many years and small wonder why NMS is one of the largest gaming disappointments in quite a while. Just a comparison I thought worth sharing.
