Minecarts are becoming obsolete Posted: 08 Jul 2017 12:50 PM PDT tl;dr Elytra and other items provide an easier and faster way to do long distance travel, disincentivizing building long distance rails. I propose a new faster powered rail that would keep all existing builds working while also providing a way to make minecarts travel at speeds on par with elytra flying. In the past few updates, many of the most useful features of minecarts have been made obsolete. Minecarts used to be one of the fastest ways of traveling, but this is no longer the case. Horses surpassed minecarts in this regard when they were added, and the more recent elytra is several times faster than even horses. When given the option to elytra fly to a far away destination or take a minecart, there is no doubt that the elytra would be faster every time. Chest minecarts used to be one of the best ways to transport large quantities of items long distances. For example, players would build long rails to mesas and load up several chest minecarts full of clay to bring back to base. After the introduction of shulker boxes, you can now transport just as much by throwing a few of the boxes into your ender chest. This is obviously the preferred method because there is no need to spend time placing rails for thousands of blocks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to these changes. I think that horses, elytras, and shulker boxes make the game not only more user-friendly, but also more enjoyable. However, this comes at the expense of the utility of minecarts. I'm not saying minecarts are completely useless either. Hopper minecarts are very useful for picking up items in farms, for example. What I'm saying is that there are now much better and easier ways to do long distance player and item transportation. But the question arises, why should minecarts be made to be the best choice in these areas? Isn't it fine if minecarts are replaced by newer items that do the job better? Elytra and shulker boxes are clearly intended to be end-game items, and in many respects they are. But consider it this way: if you want a way to establish fast transportation between two places that are several thousand blocks apart, would it be easier for you to get an elytra or to mine all the iron and gold required for a long distance rail line, in addition to digging out the tunnels and placing the rails? In my opinion, acquiring an elytra is not only the easier option, but also the more effective one because elytra flying is faster than riding a minecart. There is little incentive for Minecraft players to build long distance rail networks anymore because they are not only more difficult to make, but also slower than other options in the game. If long distance minecart rails are more difficult than other travelling options, why should the reward for creating them be less? Not only does the current state of minecarts not make sense from a game balance perspective, but it also disincentivizes survival players from exploring this highly interesting and, in my opinion, best part of the game. Now, how should this be fixed? I do not think that nerfing existing features is the way to go because that could break existing creations. I think that it should be fixed it a way that is compatible with all existing creations. I propose the addition of an advanced powered rail. All minecart mechanics with normal rails and powered rails would behave exactly the same, but when a minecart travels over an advanced powered rail, it would get a speed boost up to a certain maximum speed like with normal powered rails, except the maximum speed would be several times faster than normal powered rails and on par with the speed of elytra flight. Of course, I would be incredibly happy if this idea were implemented with any crafting recipe, but the one I propose is to use the same shape as the normal powered rail but with diamond instead of gold to craft six advanced powered rails. This would obviously be a late game item. What do you all think? Should minecarts be improved so there is an incentive to build rail networks again or is it fine for there to be cheaper and better alternatives? Do you have a better way to address this problem than the one proposed? Thanks for taking your time to read what I have to say! [link] [comments]

Burned my house down twice. What am I doing wrong? Posted: 08 Jul 2017 12:16 PM PDT I built a house yesterday and put in a fireplace and unfortunately it burned the whole thing down. So today I rebuilt and put cobblestone all around the fireplace. Everything looked fine and I played for about 15 minutes until I noticed the upstairs had caught on fire. I'm not sure how the fire was able to spread. Where did I go wrong? Pics here. [link] [comments]

How can I replace a chest with a certain item in it? Posted: 08 Jul 2017 02:17 PM PDT I am trying to make it so any chest within five blocks of a player containing a flower pot named "Cup" will be replaced with an air block. I've already tried this command: /execute @a ~ ~ ~ fill ~5 ~5 ~5 ~-5 ~-5 ~-5 minecraft:air 0 replace minecraft:chest -1 {Items :[{id:"minecraft:flower_pot",Damage:0s,tag:{display:{Name:"Cup"}}}]} It replaces any chest within five blocks, and not just the ones with the cup in them. If you could tell me what I'm doing wrong or another way to do this, that would be great! [link] [comments]
