Halo: Landfall (2007) director interview

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 03:32 PM PDT

Neil Blomkamp did an interview with Funhaus where he speaks about about his new business thing, OATS, and talks about his experiences working on Halo: Landfall, among other things.

BLOMKAMP DIRECTS HALO? - Movie Podcast

Have some Halo timestamps: 17:04 Thoughts on the Halo Universe

20:04 Being asked to work on Halo and it not happening, thoughts on Fall of Reach

29:33 Would he make another Halo short? Spoiler: yes he would

There's also some good stuff in the interview if you watch the whole thing, but not really Halo related.

PSA: Halo 5 in 4k won't magically gain beta effects!

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 10:52 AM PDT

Look I know a lot of you guys are excited to play Halo 5 in 4k on your new shiny Xbox oneX's but there seems to be a huge misconception with 4k around here.

4K just means that the game will have a higher resolution from current 1080p to new 4K. That is all.

What there WON'T be is shaders and lighting and animation effects from the beta that we all want to see come back.

Everything will look exactly the same but cleaner, sharper, and possibly with more anti-aliasing.

Thank you for your understanding. If there is anything I did miss please comment below and I'll edit this post.

Edit: here are some links of where I'm seeing this misconception.

The Halo Panel at RTX was literally the worst panel ever.

Discuss

Edit:

Since people were asking, there update said:

"We've got some cool things to talk about set against the backdrop of fan-fueled hilarity as we host the very first edition of the Halo Match Game. We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll dodge dangerous questions. It's gonna be awesome. Best of all, we'll be pulling fans from the audience to join us on stage to compete for fabulous prizes!"

And literally all we got were a little less than an hour of the Match Game with out anything else, no cool things were talked about, no Q&A either. Finally gets legendary Halo guys together in a panel and they just play a dumb match game, great.

Any help finding an old halo friend?

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 12:03 PM PDT

Seems super far fetched, but I used to play H2 a bunch with a guy named IVI TACTICS IVI, and other 'tactics' variations, but over the years he changed his gamer tag or got new ones and I've lost contact. I wonder if he even plays anymore, but it'd be awesome to play together again. If anyone knows him tell him to add Nunyaa!

So about that Reach lootcrate.

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 11:57 AM PDT

"Guys we need to add intel to the Reach crate what do we add?"

"How about info on Gaunlet, Red and Echo Teams? We could give info on the unknown spartans at Azod! What about Beta Red! The book left their fate in the air. Maybe something from the Covenant perspective even? Hey, we could shed some light on exactly how Jun escaped! There is so much we can fill in with Reach with so much potential I think fans will love this!"

"Hmm....not bad ideas but what if instead we gave them three pieces of intel about the target locator? Lets do that."

The Most Important Scripting Trick To Know In Forge...

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 03:18 PM PDT

Is to work with siblings in groups.

For example, if you want to move all the objects in a group, you could create a group and then add a move script to it. However, when adding scripts to groups, it actually adds a script each object in the group.

Instead you can add one script to one of the objects before grouping them, and then make that script move all the objects in the group.

To do that, open the objects menu for the move action and set it to:

Mod 1: THIS [add] Mod 2: Group: Siblings [add]

Without changing the targets, that will cause all objects to move to the same spot, regardless of where they are placed. To change that, you just need to open the targets menu and set it to:

Mod 1: [NOTHING]

To move specific objects in the group, you just need to give them labels and then open the objects menu in the move action and set it to:

Mod 1: THIS [add] Mod 2: Group: Siblings [add] Mod 3: Label [include] Label: (label you set for the objects)

The include modifier causes only the labeled objects in the group to be moved. Where as the exclude modifier does the opposite.

Once you're done you have to group them to make the scripts work properly.

Other than requiring a lot less scripts, the great benefit by using siblings is that you can create scripted object groups that can work independently, without having to change the scripts. Which also means that your scripts won't break other parts of the map. And you're not limited by the few channels and labels that are available.

So I highly recommend doing that whenever possible, especially for prefabs and maps with a lot of scripted elements.

Is Halo ever going to come to PC?

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 02:48 PM PDT

Hey, I was a huge halo player back on the original Xbox and 360. However, I switched to PC gaming back in 2013 and haven't really played console ever since. The only thing I miss from Xbox was Halo lol. Is there any news regarding a halo release on PC or anything? Thanks!

Do you think there should be another studio along 343i to develop halo?

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 02:31 PM PDT

I was thinking the other day how beneficial it would be to have several first party studios working on different type of Halo games. This would allow for smaller installments over different genres ever 2-3 years and major installments (halo 6 etc.) every 4-5 years. Thoughts?
