Hyrja does not scale correctly in Mythic+

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:05 PM PDT

My guild was doing a 14 HoV earlier tonight, and after multiple wipes on Hyrja we started to think that the fight was bugged. During Eye of the Storm, we were taking literally unhealable damage. 1.3m+ ticks every 1.5 seconds.

After taking a look and analysing the damage we were taking, we realised that the fight was not scaling correctly, resulting in literally unhealable damage during EotS.

Essentially, the way the mechanic works on base mythic is that the damage ticks for ~340,000 per tick, and the shield reduces that damage by ~260,000.
This means that the shield roughly reduces the base damage of the ability by 75%.

In Mythic+, while the damage from Eye of the Storm scales with the level, the damage that the shield reduces does not.
This means that at our level 14, she was doing ~250% increased damage. This meant that every base tick of damage was hitting for ~1,200,000, plus the extra from her buff.
If the fight scaled correctly, I would expect the shield to reduce ~910,000. This would result in a roughly 75% reduction, and give us ticks of approximately 390,000 while standing in the barrier.

However, the damage reduction from the shield does not scale with level. This means that when you start hitting the higher M+ levels and getting base ticks of ~1,200,000, the shield is still only reducing that by ~260,000, meaning you're taking upwards of 1,000,000 damage per tick.

This is absolutely, 100%, fundamentally broken. As you increase in level, this boss becomes exponentially harder, and very quickly becomes simply unhealable.

Below I have attached the log for our run, and isolated the damage taken on our best pull. As you can clearly see, the damage from Eye of the Storm is absolutely insane. We were getting average hits of 1.8m INSIDE the shield, and you can very clearly see that it's doing far, FAR more damage than it's intending to do.

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/RctrJ6hgKZnzH9Gv/#view=analytical&hostility=1&type=damage-done&source=36&start=1575001&end=1922379

EDIT: Here's another interesting graph, showing damage taken per second over the course of a single Eye of the Storm -

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/RctrJ6hgKZnzH9Gv/#view=analytical&type=damage-taken&start=1690939&end=1700967

The fix for this is very simple - Make it so that Hyrja's shield reduces the damage taken from Eye of the Storm by 75%. This means that as the boss scales in Mythic+, so does the amount absorbed by the shield.
The relative amount of damage taken in the shield is still the same, and the damage taken during that phase increases at the correct rate with each level of M+.

EDIT: To the people saying we were not managing the Empowerment debuff correctly, please see this log - https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/RctrJ6hgKZnzH9Gv/#view=analytical&hostility=1&type=auras&source=36&start=1575001&end=1922379&spells=debuffs&ability=192132
We were executing the fight as intended, and the stacks were dropping off her.

Why Kil'jaeden is smaller in ToS than he was in the Sunwell raid

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 07:52 AM PDT

He was too fat to fit through the Sunwell portal. That must have been pretty embarrassing, his plans were thwarted due to his obesity. So he went on a diet.

[SPOILERS] New storyline quests in Broken Shore this week

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 06:31 AM PDT

Just logged in after the weekly restart, and noticed there are new quests in the Broken Shore, seemingly related to the main story line.

First, Khadgar will give you a quest asking to seal the Tomb of Sargeras using the Pillars of Creation. Reward is 140 million AP at AK40.

Second, and more mysterious, is Velen's quest. It asks you to kill Kil'jaeden, but has no associated reward. Maybe has a follow-up quest? Have no clue, will only kill him later today, so no way to tell what's next, at least not right now.

They're up right now if you visit Deliverance Point. EU probably will have to wait for tomorrow.

WoW Addon Updater... Update - Now supports WoWInterface addons!

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 07:00 AM PDT

https://github.com/kuhnerdm/wow-addon-updater

Hey, just letting you all know that the WoW Addon Updater utility has gotten a big update and now supports addons from both Curse and WoWInterface. Next plans are probably to integrate a change that checks to see if you currently have the newest version of an addon, and skips it if you do, greatly reducing data usage of the app.

More info on this app in general here: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/6igp8x/ive_made_an_alternative_to_the_twitchcurse_client/

Pandruids!

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 06:23 AM PDT

I have probably posted about this before, but it has been on my mind a bit more lately and it is maintenance time anyway.

Pandruids! Pandaren Druids always seemed an obvious step in my mind after playing a monk and learning more about the Pandaren lore. Additionally, Pandaren Druids would allow both factions a new druid race.

Pandruid forms would be related to the Celestials. I imagine a wise monk conversing with a druid about nature would start to see connections pretty quickly. I'll try to keep this short, here are the highlights.

Guardian- Black Ox form. Some animation work required here, but I think it is doable. Of course I am sure there can be a Glyph of the Bear or something to replace Ox form with a panda colored bear for those that want it.

Feral- White Tiger form. Easiest connection by far.

Restoration- Jade Serpent. This one will probably take some effort, as it isn't a simple tree variant, but luckily the tree isn't a permanent form like it used to be. Spells would ideally be jade colored variations of existing resto spells. Again, Glyph of the Tree and Glyph of the Other Tree for those that prefer those models.

Balance- Red Cranekin form. This is the most difficult connection to make with models and lore. It require either a reskin of the current boomkin model with white and red with crane features, or a whole new model would need to be made. It is also a difficult connection lore wise. For some reason, both the Red Crane and the Jade Serpent are associated with healing in Pandaria, but with a little effort, I am sure ranged dps could be associated with the Red Crane. Who knows, maybe this retcon could pave the way for a ranged dps spec for monks as well.

(BONUS!) Travel- Yak seemed the obvious choice to replace the ground travel form. Perhaps a turtle for the swimming form, but I am not certain what flying could be. Thoughts?

Anyway, that's what has been on my mind recently. Please let me know what you think!

Edit: TL;DR, Pandaren druid idea with different forms based on Pandaren/Celestial lore.

NEW Mythic+ loot ilvl: Cache rewards and End of run rewards. Please post your results!

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 08:04 AM PDT

Hello everyone -

For some reason, Blizzard has still not posted an ilvl guide/chart showing what ilvl loot we will get from our "weekly" caches or "end of dungeon run" loot.

So, I'm taking this into my own hands and crowdsourcing this. Keep in mind, warforging/titanforging exists, so all data points help! (i.e. if someone has posted they got a 930 from their weekly cache, you posting the same thing still has value).

The end of dungeon loot will be updated right about now since Mythic ToS is released, so keep in mind anything you saw last week is probably not indicative of what the ilvl will be going forward
