Next fallout should be set on the Great Lakes

Posted: 26 Jun 2017 10:21 PM PDT

I think it'd be really cool if the next fallout was set between the US and Canada on the Great Lakes. It could involve the midwestern bos and the remnants of the enclave in Chicago. There could also be some sort of Viking faction that sails on the lakes and terrorizes the mainland. The promotional song would be beyond the sea by bobby Darin. Since it's on the Canadian border they could also explore what happened when Canada was annexed in more detail.

We missed skills so bad, so we teamed up with Shad0wshayd3 to bring them back - the UI was done by our fantastic programmer Neanka, give them all the love in the world, they truly deserve it!

Why does House only pay 1250 caps for the Chip after a Barter 50 check, but 2000 for a goddamn snowglobe?

They made a cazaclaw. But why though?

I'm playing Fallout 1 for the first time right now

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:14 PM PDT

It's pretty good so far. I have no idea why people say it hasn't aged well, the only thing that hasn't aged well for meis that the UI is harder to read on higher resolutions. I also have a friend on Steam who is also playing it for the first time (he played fallout 3 and NV a while back but didn't get Fallout 4) and he also is enjoying it so far

Do the Children of Atom revere Ghouls?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 12:54 PM PDT

I mean, they're kind of proof of Atom's benevolence, right? Atom blessed them with the ability to regain health from His gifts. Maybe they're like angels of Atom?

Bottle Cap value at $1.447 USD?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 11:14 AM PDT

I've read a few different values across the internet but the $1.447 value has to do with the value of gold bars from Fallout New Vegas "Dead Money"

Just wondering if anyone has a different take on it or maybe knows a better way to find value in Fallout Bottle Caps.

Fallout 3 had a morrowind reference at the start of the game

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 01:31 PM PDT

Butch and his friends are the 3 kids that threaten to beat you up if you don't give him your sweetroll. At the start of morrowind the guy who asks you a bunch of questions to assign you a class asks what you'd do in this exact scenario. Just thought that was a cool throwback

Blueprint showing the Super Sledge's progression. Drawn by a Gun Runners scout/researcher.

Was trying to figure out how to do a progression print of the Super Sledge over all of the Fallout games that would be lore-friendly, and decided to draw it as a "Research Note" from a Gun Runners scout. Thanks to u/Grizzled--Kinda for the request, sorry it took so long to get around to it!

As always, constructive criticism and requests welcome.

A Fallout would be cool in New Orleans

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 07:31 AM PDT

Saw a post about the next Fallout hypothetically being in the Great Lakes region, and I thought about how cool it would be to have it in New Orleans. After the trademark that it might actually be a concept, I thought it'd be cool to give a take on that possible Fallout game.

The game could start off with a cutscene showing the nuke going off in 2077, and a soldier or someone trying to get into a vault- Vault 82, but having it sink beneath their feet. There's the brief outline of all the factions and history after the war, and we see the player-character wading through the swamp, before finding the bog mummy of the soldier, preserved by peat moss in the landscape, finds a Pip-Boy and nearly drowns as water falls to where they are. The player wakes up on a steamboat, heading for the sinking New Orleans proper, it's here that the player would customize their character.

As for factions, people who survived the apocalypse much easier in South America come up north to claim land with their much better resources, or maybe have conservationists try to preserve the bayou and it's heavily mutated creatures, I can't remember seeing that.

You could also have a group of Wastelander's from the former UK that, similar to Caesar, are repeating history from what they read about the Old World, this time it being the War of 1812.

There could also be more original music, mostly jazz and country. Two songs I think that would fit the area especially well would be "House of the Rising Sun", since it would capture a lot of the gloominess and "bayou" atmosphere of the game, and "Battle of New Orleans", since it's literally about the 1812 battle of New Orleans.

New fallout I'd like to see..

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:12 PM PDT

You play a low to mid level employee in one of the big corporations (VaultTec/Robco/etc) You learn 3 months before that fateful October that the end is coming.. the game consists of dealing with the public/political strife during that time and trying to find a place for your family to survive.. Never happen I'm sure.. but it sounds fun as hell to me..

So I want to do a new play through of fallout 4, and go against the railroad for a change...

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:31 PM PDT

But the thing is I've tried to do this before and every time morals just take hold of me and I can't help but side with them. Can someone convince me that they're evil and make me hate them. Make something up if you have to; say they kick puppies if it's convincing.

edit: I'm convinced :)

I'm trying to build a vault, but the NPC pathing in it is really bad -- is there any way to fix it?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 12:08 PM PDT

In my vault, NPCs seem to ignore the way they're supposed to go to places, instead just walking at walls that are "in their way" and teleporting eventually.

You can see an example here, where my robot refused to even go up the stairs. As I say in the post, the barber flooring in the room he was supposed to go into is from a mod. However, the stairs are not, nor are the atrium pieces. The robot's ability to operate the store is also a mod, but I've seen NPCs do the exact same thing.

Has this happened to anyone else? What's causing it? Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks!

[Possible Gameplay Improvements] Disguises, Faction Marks, and Security Checkpoints.

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:02 PM PDT

FNV had a rather simple disguise system. Wear faction armor and the various factions will treat you as an anonymous member of that faction. Your reputation is completely reset.

Unfortunately, this led to situations where if I fast travel somewhere while wearing a disguise I would get attacked on arrival, even if one immediately takes off the disguise as soon as the bullets start flying.

I know that there a few mods for FO4 that implements disguises, but is still isn't as impressive as I imagine it could be given enough time and effort. Below are the key concepts of some improvements that I've imagined. Tell me if you think it would fit within a Fallout game.

Disguises: Wearing a sufficient armor pieces of a certain faction will have other factions treat the the players as an anonymous member of said faction when approached, unless the player possesses a faction mark. When donning a disguise in front of faction members, faction NPCs will not turn hostile so long as they and the player remain within the same game cell.

Faction Mark: Badges and other trinkets given by important faction members that signifies that the player character is a recognized operative for that faction. So long as the mark remains in the player inventory, faction NPCs will not be hostile to the player on approach regardless of the disguise. However, visibly attacking and killing faction NPCs will invalidate the mark for obvious reasons. Also, possessing the mark of certain factions can cause issues at security checkpoints.

Border/Security Checkpoints: Sometimes a town or base is fortified for whatever reason. Travelers are permitted to come and go provided they only enter and exit via the checkpoints. At the checkpoints, travelers' inventories are screened for contraband and other incriminating evidence. If one possesses contraband, one can either either enter with the items confiscated (and possibly pay a small fine) or simply refuse to enter and keep the contraband. If one possesses a mark of a faction that the base or town is at war with, the checkpoint guards will immediately turn hostile. Note, this is also implemented in some form in New Vegas as certain areas confiscate any weapons in the inventory unless the player has sufficient Sneak skill to smuggle some of them in.

What are some *actual* seldom talked about flaws in New Vegas?

Posted: 26 Jun 2017 08:02 PM PDT

It seems to me a lot of this sub like to talk about Fallout: New Vegas as it's the second coming of Jesus Christ in game form, and when people do talk about it negatively it's usually bad gameplay/graphics/buggy etc. And I'm saying this as a huge New Vegas fan, it's just scary how much /r/Fallout circlejerks around this game when we can discuss Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout: Tactics, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout 3, Fallout Shelter, Fallout 4, and literally anything else relating to Fallout.

Here is how I would like a cinematic trailer for next fallout game to be

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:52 PM PDT

The narrator ,with his iconic "war never changes" explains what happened in the area where the game takes place , on screen being the wasteland. With a transition , it would switch to the protagonist (which will be silent) in a power armor , jumping through the floor to reach into a house to fight some raiders or one of the factions in Fallout universe. That would be so epic to see if it's like Dishonored's cinematic trailer. How about you?

FO4, just starting. Sell me on followers.

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:47 PM PDT

I'm a few hours into 4 already, getting a couple settlements up, helped Danse with his invasion problem, and had a chat with a guy named after a cereal brand.

All this time, I've had Dogmeat with me. He's a pretty damned awesome Pup of Doom.

But I'm wondering. Are there human(ish) followers that are possibly more worthwhile for a wandering, sneaking, sniping, packrat who is trying to do good?

Has anyone done the Chokehold move?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:15 PM PDT

One of my favorite melee finishing moves is the chokehold move, simply because it's an instant kill and it makes my female survivor look like a badass and it's wonderful.

However I haven't seen anyone else do a chokehold hold in the game, and I was just wondering if anyone else has done the move before, and if so, is it random or does it vary? I'm curious...

Help me get into Fallout 4

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:57 PM PDT

I got Fallout 4 around Christmas time after hearing how amazing it is and being a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I played Fallout a bit and found it hard to get into. I picked it up again in maybe March and liked it but was terrible at it. I haven't played it in some time due to school, work etc.

The original reason I didn't love it though is I was overwhelmed with the amount of content and didn't really know where to start and what to do.

Help me get back into the game as I'll be starting a new one tonight. Any starting out tips, things to do/try, overall styles to play, etc would be greatly appreciated.
