We built a machine learning tool that compares your build with what a pro level player would do! Posted: 21 Jun 2017 04:57 AM PDT Hey everyone! We're the guys behind Feedless. We've been toying around with different ideas and recently built this page. It lets you parse recent matches and compare your build with what our machine learning algorithms consider to be the ideal one for that match! If you have a friend that always follows some silly build...show him this! This is just a simple side project for us right now but, if you guys enjoy it, we'll add more features! Let us know what you think. [link] [comments]

International Ranked Error? Please advise. Posted: 21 Jun 2017 01:30 PM PDT Whenever I try to que up for an international ranked match I am presented with this error: http://imgur.com/a/diKIn I have tried to verify game files, restart my computer, launch steam in offline then back online and checked for updates. Any other suggestions? Edit: I am the only person in my party. [link] [comments]
How to reconfigure visage familiar hotkeys? Posted: 21 Jun 2017 07:30 AM PDT I'm not quite sure how this happened, but my familiars' stomp abilities were changed from 'Q' to 'Q+alt'. I'd like to change this to how I used to have it, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do so. [link] [comments]
Here are a few suggestions to Valve on how to improve Dota 2 Posted: 21 Jun 2017 01:59 PM PDT Hello there, Before I start, I'd just like to say one thing. I love Dota 2. I live and breath this game, and even though I only recently started to play it (February of this year) I've already spent more time and money on it than any other game, ever. This game is to me what Football is to some people - even though you'll never be a pro, you spend your childhood playing it, your teenage years watching it, and your old age wishing you could have been better (I've yet to get there, mind). Now that I've made that clear, let me give a few suggestions to Valve (although they will doubtlessly never even see this, it feels good to get this off of my chest). Let me start with an inflammatory sentence. Dota is a flawed game. Despite the developers best efforts, it suffers from bugs, balancing issues, and nerfs/buffs can often have a domino effect on the meta, making previously very highly contested heroes pretty much unplayable. The game itself is not what I'm going to focus because quite frankly I don't pretend to know how to do any of the very complicated things that Icefrog does better than him. I'm not quite that pretentious! In my eyes there are threee core problems going on at the moment for Dota (other than the much needed Bristle nerfs of course). They are: * Stagnating player base * Disillusionment of workshop artists due to decreasing payouts * Third party tournaments may be unsustainable due to no crowd funding and being eclipsed by the vastly larger Valve sponsored ones. I will address each of these issues in due course, but first of all I would like to thank TobiWan for expressing each of these concerns before me. I will confess that although I did share most of his views before he posted them, I would never have followed through and put my thoughts on paper (so as to speak) if he hadn't kickstarted the discussion. Also, it takes quite a bit of courage to speak up against Valve when you are being employed by them. Saying these things on reddit is easy because you have nothing at stake. Kudos to TobiWan. He said things that I think the majority of the Dota had in the back of their mind, but by saying them he has hopefully sparked a larger debate. So then, to my suggestions for improving Dota 2. Let's get started, shall we? The first of the issues that I mentioned, and perhaps one that is the most worrying is that of stagnating player bases. A quick look at the graphs show that monthly peak users has decreased from over 1 million peak per month to around 900-950 thousand. On it's own, that doesn't sound all that impressive. The drop was most probably caused by the fact that smurfs are now unable to play in ranked matches if they don't have a phone number attached (RIP account buyers, thanks be to god), but if you take a look at this it paints a bleaker picture. League of Legends, a game that I quite honestly find to be shit (excuse the bad langauge, but it is truly deserved) has over 100 million active players if Forbes is to be believed. More importantly, it has recorded 33% increases in playerbase every two years since 2011. That is crazy growth, and I don't expect that Dota will ever top that or indeed even come close - Dota is basically as PC gamers are to XBOX. There are more kids on XBOX, so there are more XBOX users overall, but PC gamers are the master race. Just like Dota vs LoL. Nonetheless, stagnation, or even very, very small growth is not good and if I were Valve I'd want to reverse this trend. Thoughts on how to draw new users: *First off, the new user experience has to be radically improved. When I started playing Dota I had no idea what the F//ck was going on. I played the tutorial, which basically taught me how to walk and how to use the shop, but I didn't know what the different game modes were, how to play bot matches or indeed pretty much anything at all (my first match of Dota was Ability Draft because I didn't know what each mode was). I recently saw a post on this subreddit which suggested a new tutorial and a coaching system, and I would have to agree wholeheartedly with this poster (apologies for not knowing who you are, feel free to post in the comments and I'll edit in your name). A coaching system with e-peens, effigies etc (and toxicity rating of course, this is dota after all) would greatly improve the new user experience. On top of this, I think that a UI tutorial that shows all of the functions of the Dota client, as well as an in depth video + tutorial path would greatly help get past the daunting reputation that Dota carries around (get Purge to make a few 5 minute clips on LHing, hero roles etc and then put a few custom bot matches in between them). After this, I think that Valve really needs to actually get new players to the tutorial screen, and since Dota carries around such a daunting reputation I think that this is actually quite hard. I only downloaded Dota because it was at the top of the free to play games available for linux on Steam, and the system requirements were relatively modest (although an "intel HD" mode would be much apprecciated, and could help make Dota more competitive next to LoL). In order to get people to even download the game I think that Valve needs to start pushing out new trailers, possibly even an Overwatch style series of short animated movies, and to put this in cinemas, TV shows, YouTube videos etc. I know that advertising campagins cost a lot of money, but I honestly think that after a short while it would pay for itself in hat sales and that it would be a good move for Valve. After this I had a bit of a crazy idea, and while I really doubt that it will happen, I still think it is a cool idea (feel free to flame me in the comments for thinking this): what if Valve were to put out a full length feature documentary/film about Dota 2 and esports and put it into cinemas? I think that even if the film itself lost money in production + cinemas (and who knows, maybe it would be a blockbuster), it would easily pay for itself in the afore mentioned hat sales. The Workshop Artists + third party tournaments (this is going to be a long one): *Workshop artists are growing increasingly frustrated (and rightly so) because of Valve's continued cuts into their share of hat and treasure sales, and I think that is closely tied to the new Majors system and the way that third party tournaments now work, and I think that I have a solution that might please everyone (although again, flame me for being stupid + downvote if you feel I just don't get it). I think that in order for Dota to be truly successful as an esport it needs to be able to break the hardcore barrier and break into the casual sports audience (yes, I know casuals are bad), they will neeed to broadcast Dota on regular TV. That's right, I think Valve should start actively marketing Dota (and selling broadcasting rights to tournaments) to TV networks. What I imagine would be a good method for this to work would be if Valve signed a contract with national broadcasters, and then arranged a deal with each tournament organizer so that Valve would get a cut + tournament organizer would get a cut + broadcaster would get material to broadcast. I'd also suggest that individual tournament compendiums would make a return, hopefully at a low enough price (2-3 bucks), which would allow Valve to produce more treasures, giving more oppurtunities for artists to make money (also improve their cut aka bring it back to what it used to be at). Anyways, there are my few suggestions that no one will read, but still feels good to put them out in the open. Thanks for reading! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Jun 2017 07:56 PM PDT I've played a few games lately where I'm on a roaming ganker type hero (clockwerk/spirit breaker). My goal is to hit 6 on clock and try to initiate favourable fights in mid, and generate opportunities for my mid carry to win the lane and take the T1. For SB, I want to initiate fights earlier, establish an earlier lead, but essentially do the same thing. In the games (and kind of generally) mids seem to tend to LEAVE the lane, making this type of rotation a moot point. Why would I charge mid at level 4 to plunk into a level 7 sniper? Am I waiting too long to gank mid? And should mid try to stay in lane longer? I've seen some games where the guy in mid controls the lane enough that it's favourable for him to simply park there and farm, even up to 15 minutes in, and with 3 items or whatever, he's happy to teamfight, push or whatever. If my carry hits 7 and leaves lane (lets say, he goes safelane for some reason), what is my new prerogative? My gut feeling is: If my opposition TP's, I push hard uncontested, and if my opposition stays, I try to observe the actions in safelane and TP if I think I can swing a fight. The issue here, is that I feel like it's my job to be providing that type of initiation, not sit in lane farming. If my mid carry leaves lane, should I go with him? Or should I emphasize that he could stay in mid longer to farm? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Jun 2017 03:19 AM PDT Recently I've been trying to optimize my keybindings. I ran into a problem with being able to toggle auto-cast properly, and I can't seem to find a solution to this in the settings. Let's say you want to auto-cast Searing Arrows as Clinkz, the default hotkey would be Alt+W if you have your spells on Q-W-E-R like I have. The problem is that I have all of my items on Alt+Q,W,E,A,S,D... I would love to be able to toggle auto-cast on Alt+Z for Viper, Alt+X for Clinkz and so forth. Would be even more sick if Valve could make a singular button to toggle auto-cast for all heroes. I'm getting tired of right clicking with my mouse on the ability. Am I missing something in the settings? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Jun 2017 08:58 AM PDT It seems as though the +magic Veil of Discord build is still the meta call for Ember Spirit, but my question is whether it's still worth picking the heavily nerfed +8% magic damage, or whether the +30 right click damage is better. +8% magic damage seems like such a piddling amount, and +30 is actually quite decent as far as level 10 talents go (for cores at least). My inclination is to go the +30 damage, even if I'm still going with the Veil of Discord build. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
What are good combinations of heroes to end games quickly (win or lose) with pushing strats? Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:54 PM PDT I play sometimes with a stack of noobs (we're probably sub 2k, not enough games for ranked yet) and we've started to hate these games that go an hour long. Sometimes we want to play one game and have it over, win or lose, in 40 minutes or less. What are some good hero combinations that would work for this? What's the rationale behind the synergy? Is it something like, you want one sustain hero, one creep summoner, and one building hitter, or is it more complicated than that? [link] [comments]

How do you play offlane Earthshaker? Posted: 20 Jun 2017 10:26 PM PDT Ever since the aftershock buff he's been gaining popularity and I see him destroying some matches straight up. So my question is when do you know and what matchups do you pick him versus? Can you lane versus a tri-lane/duo-lane depending on the matchup and supports? What circumstances should you not pick him? What starting items to go for? Is it dependant on the matchup? If so, any examples? How do you do the offlane pull to the hard camp trick by blocking with fissure (reliably) in the current patch? The timings too. If you had a video it'd be great. I tried a few times in lobby and it always fails or I grab only 1 creep. What talents do you almost always pick? Any more tips can you give me? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:47 PM PDT Me and my friend were thinking of disgusting combos to play in party matches, and we were wondering if a Bristle KotL offlane would work. We were thinking that we could just have the bristle stay in lane and spam quills to bully out the safelaners and push while KotL just illuminates neutrals and chakra magics bristle. Thoughts? | How to play Lycan at the 3-3.5K level? Posted: 20 Jun 2017 07:44 PM PDT I played about 10 Lycan games over the last two days and am struggling to understand why the hero has around 50% win rate. I am mostly struggling with him during the laning stage losing my lane (normally a 2v2 lane). In games where I am forced to jungle I feel that I don't jungle very quickly with him. Are there any Lycan spammer's here that can explain how they play the hero or point me to their dotabuff? [link] [comments] |
