Please Blizzard, Symmetra's Beam needs to be fixed.

Today's patch includes defensive measure against image-recognition based aimbot by changing the color of red outlines ever so slightly every match. Thumbs up for Blizzard.

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 08:28 AM PDT

Image recognition based aimbots, prevalent in Korea, work by targeting specific RGB value used for enemy outlines. Basically starting from this patch, the outlines on enemies slightly change in color (unnoticeable to human eyes) so that the image recognition engine on aimbots would be either completely useless or have high failure rate (if they try to target the range, rather than a specific RGB value). They are already known to function incorrectly on maps like Gibraltar with red backgrounds so this should deal a critical blow to these hacks.

Now that roadhog gets nerfed to not be able to 1 shot 200hp that often, I wonder if Hanzo's scattershot 1 shotting ~400hp tank will be next to get nerfed?

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 02:32 PM PDT

I agree that heroes with low mobility will be sniper's best target, but having hanzo able to 1 shot tank if they are below 450 hp at medium range (or point blank which is the most annoying thing for me as a winston player) is a tad over powered.

From the tips shown for hanzo's scattershot, I believe that it is designed for "clearing out enemy that are in a small enclosed room", but having it 1 shot half the tank roster from near to medium range in any type of space? Nope.

Edit: [Shower Thoughts] What if, scatter shot deals 45 damage on the first ricochet (from 1 arrow to 6) and then add 5~10 damage for every subsequent bounce? This way, it follows the hint where scatter shot will work better in enclosed space than open space, can still 1 shot skinny dps (4 hit + 1 melee), only deals 270 damage max on the very first ricochet.

For the pharah players, mercy is not a part of your kit

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 06:09 AM PDT

Do not assume mercy exists has part of you. Do not assume that the mercy is gonna be shackled to you like a slave. Do not forget that what counters you, also counters the mercy, who is vulnerable in the air

Pharmercy is a good tactic that sometimes simply doesn't work! either the rest of the team needs more heals, or maybe the mercy has ress and wants to stay hidden.

a proper pharah should do a lot without a mercy anyway

Support Hero concept: Sirius

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 09:18 AM PDT

I spent way too much time on this. Also posted on the OW forums.

Backstory

Sirius is an Omnic who escaped from the Australian Omnium prior to its destruction. In the wake of the fallout, Sirius became a salvager and outcast, forced to constantly move about to stay one step ahead of the Omnic-hating Junkers.

More Details

Sirius' primary role is aggressive battlefield management of both allies and enemies with a unique hodgepodge of dual-function abilities. While he's far from a good point-blank duelist, the tools at his disposal allow him to shut down highly mobile and unpredictable heroes' advances, or boost those same heroes on his own team.

  • Health: 250 (50 Standard Health, 200 Armor - subject to tuning)

  • Size: Approximately similar to a standing Zenyatta - basic humanoid Omnic.

Primary Weapon: Seeker Stream

  • Full description: Sirius agitates the nest of Omnic parasites that serve as his weapon, releasing a multitude of lethal ground-following Seekers. They can only damage targets proximate to the ground, but have a subtle homing ability.

  • Help menu description: Ground-level projectiles with subtle homing.

Fires a continuous stream of Seekers in the direction you are facing, dealing about 70 DPS. Seekers are medium speed ground-following projectiles that slightly home in towards enemies.

Seekers can only damage enemies within 1 meter of the ground (their hitbox extends that high - think a thin flare trail extending up from the projectile itself) and cannot headshot. However, they are also immune to projectile blocking abilities like Defense Matrix and Deflect.

Ability 1: Gravitic Gauntlet

  • Full description: Sirius' Gravitic Gauntlet allows for manipulation of a target's momentum for a limited time. Allies are given increased speed and knockback immunity, while enemies are pulled toward the ground, slowed down and prevented from jumping while grounded.

  • Help menu description: Channel to increase allies' speed or pull enemies to the ground.

A highly versatile battlefield control tool, with granularly-depleting charge akin to D.Va's Defense Matrix. It has automatic lock-on targeting, and comes with dual functionality:

  • When utilized on enemies, the Gauntlet will pull them down to the ground and restrain them. Constant downward pull is applied, horizontal speed is mildly restricted, and the target becomes unable to jump if they are in contact with the ground. This synergizes strongly with Seekers, as they are only able to damage ground-proximate enemies.

  • When utilized on allies, the Gauntlet will give them immunity to knockback (though not the damage from ordinarily knockback-inflicting hits), as well as giving them increased movement speed and preventing their movement speed from being reduced (e.g. from Mei's chill [but not freeze] or Symmetra's sentry turrets). The ability can be used on Sirius himself by activating it without a target.

Ability 2: Nanite Swarm

  • Full description: Sirius releases a multitude of repurposed nano-scale maintenance drones towards an allied or enemy target. Allies are given a protective barrier and have their armor repaired, while enemies take damage over time.

  • Help menu description: Applies a swarm that protects allies or deals damage to enemies.

Creates a rapidly-swirling cluster of nanites around a target. The swarm has 100 HP, has a slow projectile speed (requiring you to be close for consistent application), expires after 8 seconds, and can be applied to enemies or allies (yourself included). Cooldown is 7 seconds.

  • When utilized on allies, it becomes an additional layer of barrier (represented by a silver color) that applies over the top of all other defense types. If the ally has armor, the nanites will use themselves to repair the armor, healing 50 Armor per second at a 2:1 nanite to armor ratio.

  • When utilized on enemies, it becomes a damage over time effect, obscuring the enemy's view and dealing 25 damage per second, for a total of 200 base damage over the life of an uninterrupted Cloud. With a healer onboard or a health pack within 8 seconds' reach, the damage is negligible, but in combination with other effects it is significantly more effective, as it does not dissipate after leaving Sirius' line of sight.

Ultimate: Steel Storm

  • Full description: Sirius unleashes the full power of his combined mechanisms, creating a large cloud of miniature attack drones that autonomously target and engage enemies.

  • Help menu description: Creates a cloud that continually releases auto-targeting projectiles.

The Steel Storm is created above a specified position with a limited range, targeted similarly to Reaper's Shadow Step. When invoked, it appears above the position as a cloud appearing full of tiny drones, lingering for 8 seconds.

Every 0.25 seconds, a drone appears and immediately attempts to target the nearest enemy. If it successfully finds one, it attempts to lead the target, with a visible laser tracking its aim point - when it thinks it's gotten a lock, it emits a beep and launches itself at the target's anticipated position after a 0.3 second delay.

With careful movement, it is possible to repeatedly dodge the drones and avoid taking damage - think N's Gauss Gun - but the distraction caused by having to do that and attack/heal/etc significantly changes the dynamics of the battlefield.

Console specific balancing needs to be addressed

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 06:54 AM PDT

I play on both PC and Xbox with my main account(s) being on Xbox and have noticed quite a difference in the viability of some heroes.

Console players originally got specific balancing patches with torb and symms turrets and rightly so they were strong in season 1 with hero stacking and what not.

Fast forward to now and after many patches it seems console hasn't been taken into consideration namely with the nerfs to ana and widowmaker and changes to Pharah

Widow probably wasn't required to be nerfed on console as harshly, if at all. This makes you get flamed for a widow pick as good console widows are few and far between and the only consistent ones I've played with and against have been top500 ranks.

The Ana nerfs have taken ana from a viable healer to a very scarce pick with mercy being favoured in almost all team comps at all ranks.

Changes to other characters like Pharah and mercy have had a complete opposite effect and made Pharah one the most oppressive hero in the game when combined with mercy. Her infinite flight time in combination with mercy has made higher rank games become decided on who has the better Pharah or who counters Pharah the best. Meanwhile mercy is the most picked hero every rank bar bronze.

It seems like console statistics and pick rates are highly overlooked by Blizzard and the OW team. I understand they might want the game to play as similar as possible on each platform but some hero's are rather unbalanced.

I would gladly switch over to playing solely on PC but having friends on console and the fact my 500+ level account with each events skins cant be transferred and what not is holding me back. This leads me onto a second point of a one time account migration or transfer. Will it ever be possible for my cosmetics and level (not SR) to be transferred to my BNET? Surely this is already possible as with skins such as Oni?

Edit: words

Heartwarming Act of Kindness

Posted: 21 Jun 2017 12:47 PM PDT

This afternoon, I decided to log onto a random custom server and see what sort of mischief was going on. I found a pretty cool group of players and we all just spent a while emoting at each other, chatting, and occasionally duking it out.

A new player logged on, and when he joined the voice chat it was obvious that he was VERY young. When we asked his age, he said that he was five years old. Now keep in mind that his account was very high-level and had almost 500 hours logged, so it was obvious that this was potentially a younger brother on his sibling's account.

I listened as one of my teammates joined voice chat and began to coach this kid on how to play Mercy. The genuine amazement and happiness as the kid learned how to switch to the secondary weapon ("Do you see a little wheel on your mouse? Try moving it down.") and the patience and kindness shown to him by my teammate warmed my heart. The kid was adorable and sounded like he was having so much fun learning about the game and following his new Lucio buddy around.

I just wanted to share this little slice of Overwatch that truly made my afternoon. Shoutout to my teammate for being a great guy and making a young kid really really happy. Thanks for reading!
