Heroes of the Storm - [META]Flair, Improved. Update, Required.

[META]Flair, Improved. Update, Required.

Posted: 07 Jun 2017 12:33 PM PDT

Hey everyone!

I'm sure you might be wondering why it seems like Abathur has taken over the subreddit flair. I promise we haven't been captured and "improved".

We've been updating and organizing all of our flair from the backend, breaking it up into categories so we can stay within the image size limit. It's finally done, but that means that everyone's flair was broken as a result (Abathur was the first image, so it defaulted to him). So please, take a moment to update your flair on the sidebar!

Quick reminder that we've started verifying pro players on the subreddit with a little green check. If you're a pro player who's interested in verifications, please check out this post.

If there are any broken or missing flairs, please let me know in the comments and I'll try to fix them ASAP. Malthael flairs should be live in a day or so. Live now!

Imgur Mirror

Hey everybody, here's my finished concept for Iron Horde Zarya! This was based on and influenced by Warlords of Draenor designs and a piece of concept art by Ryan Metcalf (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/xGOW). It was a ton of fun to make and I might make some slight alterations down the line, but let me know what you think; Feedback is always appreciated!

Thanks for checking it out, take care!

[NITPICK] The HOTS Brawl webpage still lists gold and a profile picture as brawl rewards, and in the latest "Next week's brawl" post, it links to the page. It is probably time for Blizz to update the page with the current rewards and such if they are going to link to it in new articles.

Could we get a Reaper Auriel skin?

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 07:04 PM PDT

Given Malthael's recent release, I was thinking it might be neat to have one of the female reapers from Diablo 3 running around alongside him, and an Auriel skin seems like a perfect way to work that in. We already have tons of similar alternative universe concept skins of that variety (Demonic Tyreal, Angelic Diablo, Demonic Auriel, Angelic Valla, etc.), so I don't think this would be a huge stretch.

What do you guys think? Would a skin like this be warranted?

You know of what I speak. They dug to greedily and too deep, wishing for ratings of teen. If stiches can get a rework for China, we can get a rework for him.

In other words... Hell it's about time to bring it back.

What unpopular talent do you love?

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 10:03 AM PDT

There's a lot of unpopular talents out there, with pick rates down in the single digit percentages, and yet no talent ever goes down to 0%. Seems like there's always somebody who loves a particular talent, even if it's been ignored by most of the community. Sometimes these unpopular talents even have inexplicably high winrates on hotslogs (if you filter by Master/Diamond/Platinum, Lunara's Siphoning Toxin at 7 has the highest winrate over a large number of weeks). Other times not so much, and yet people still pick them.

Post a talent that you love, even if most people don't. What makes you pick it? Is it secretly super strong or do you just enjoy it?

It's been a while since we had one of these threads, with quite a few heroes releases since the last one. So, let's get some discussion going on all those talents that aren't in the meta.

Hearthstone and Overwatch are adopting duplicate item protection from their loot boxes/card packs

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 11:49 AM PDT

http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog/20852959?cspNonce=st6B4UX8wj

https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/blog/20861969#patchnotes

In Hearthstone, starting with their next expansion, card packs will not drop Legendary duplicates of cards you already owned, and each card pack will never feature the same non legendary card more than twice.

In Overwatch they are drastically reducing the amount of duplicate items you can get from their loot boxes.

Is this a trend? Are we gonna see this in Heroes as well or is this a reaction to Heroes loot chests (trying to match our system)?

Edit: Many people have been praising Heroes system and I can't help but feel like it's a reply to my line above asking whether we'd see such a feature in hots. I asked this question just to start discussion. I actually think they are doing this hearthstone and Overwatch change as a response to heroes system being better. I'm not stating saying we'd need this on hots at any point, just wanted to clarify. xD

New Tyrande seems to rely a ton on 2 talents (E quest and slow/weaken bird). Should Blizz rebalance this and other aspects of her? [Some data inside]

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 05:45 AM PDT

Just a constructive discussion I wanted to bring over the table, specially considering that old tyrande felt pretty much on point as a greedy solo supp - good dual support in terms of power level, even if obviously her talent tree was asking for a certain rework.

New tyrande feels quite good conceptually, as her kit right now sets a clear correlation between mechanics and in-game impact due to the Q cd reduction on basic attacks and the in-built sentinel quest.

However, new Tyrande feels a bit weak as she seems unable to become a greedy solo support anymore, even if overall, she feels more or less the same. Some data correlates this: if we take some data from 3 months ago (taken from hotslogs, Masters/Dia), old Tyrande shows score values of aproximately 35K-38K hero damage and heal values (in most cases both values are very similar); Those values also look very similar to Tassadar's. Post rework, Tyrande's values have moved to 40K damage /27-28K heal; which means approximately 10% damage gains and 30% heal loss. This isn't good or bad; it's mostly a change to a different direction, but we have to keep in mind that the heal power loss seems quite significant, probably tied to the invis ult rework and the removal of self-heal. NOTE: due to inconsitencies in HotSlogs data, self-heal values from old Tyrande can't be accounted reliably. Any clarification on this would be welcome. Also looking at that data, we can assume that the new Tyrande's damage is still in a very balanced interval, very close to the old iteration of her.

Now as a player, it seems that two new talents from her new talent tree are clearly dominant. The first one, the E quest, is not only because of the strong functionality, but because it allows Tyrande to start spamming flare without any worries on mana. In that sense, the owl talent can't really compete with the flare one: a good solution might be to add +1 pierce or a mana cost reduction , so at level 1 we have 3 damage talents that improve mana efficiency and damage lategame. The other talent, the level 13 owl slow + weaken one is, in my opinion, brutally strong: 30% slow and reduced damage for 4 seconds is no joke, even for a skillshot. Data clearly shows the dominance of that talent at that tier, that can be felt while plaing.

So the thing is, how strong would Tyrande be if those 2 talents were at the same power level than the other talents at the same tier? First obvious answer: probably weaker.

Should Blizz focus on that to rebalance Tyrande as whole with clear talent diversity, instead of having her "carried" by powerful talents? Could it make space for some other buffs that could fit Tyrande, like slightly higher attack range (6.0) and slightly stronger heals so she can come back to where it was? What could be an alternative direction for her?

Attitude cannot be overstated

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 10:47 AM PDT

Played a qm on Sky Temple. Typical qm comp. All assassins. No real peel. We have a Butcher on our team and within roughly 3 minutes he has already died twice before the first temples start. He starts flaming our Chromie for not providing adequate support for him. Chromie is doing fine, tops in everything during the early game and hasn't been picked off at all to the enemy teams entire assassin comp. His attitude only get worse throughout the game. He starts intentionally rotating away from active temples, telling us he won't help us if we won't help him. We lose. He blames everyone but himself.

Next match, on Warhead Junction. Another all assassain comp. We couldn't be any squishier without a Murky on our team but we know it'll be fun and we understand how we win. The Butcher from last game is on the other team. I'm looking forward to this matchup. We play to our win condition. We outkill them. Constant rotations, constant ganks. I actually see the Butcher on the other team stop in the middle of a lane and die because I assume he was typing something mean. We win by a significant margin.

My point to all this is that I don't believe it's a coincidence that the losing team on both sides had a toxic player. I think it shows very clearly where being cruel to others gets you.

tl;dr Toxicity more often than not adds to your loss column regardless of the teammates you have.

What's your hero tip for your main(s)?

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 11:09 AM PDT

Share tips so we can all learn some new hero tricks.

For Nazeebo (80% win rate in Plat for me) I'd say to always keep your build flexible. Spider build is good for 1v1s and singling out targets, teamfight build (includes thing of the deep, Lower spider CD, and uprooting wall) is good for all in 5v5s late game, and toad build is great for splitpushing. See your comp and how the game plays out early to decide what would be best.

For Sylvanas I'd say to focus on being a team player. So many Syls end up split pushing and camping. She is not effective at either of these roles. Her damage is too low and thus results in her being very inefficient. Also, getting your team to all in push a lane level 1 can surprise many people in lower elos and get free wins for you.

Can we get more roots please?

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 12:53 AM PDT

We have so many stuns but comparatively not very many roots. It would be nice to see more roots on new heroes, especially for use against hyper mobile champions.

Roots are not as powerful as stuns and could therefore be balanced in terms of lower cooldowns or longer durations than a typical stunning ability.

Just my morning thought for the day :)

Is -600 points for the game crashing in Draft a bit harsh?

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 06:56 AM PDT

The game completely froze in draft for like 10 seconds, so roughly when the timer ran out I got back to the main screen with a 600 point penalty and a leaver queue game...

I mean, sure, punish people who dodge draft all you want, but punishing me because this game craps out every now and then sounds a bit unfair :(

Gul'dan's Rain of Destruction current state

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 05:38 AM PDT

Has there been any discussion on altering this heroic so that it stacks up as a viable pick compare to Horrify? I rarely pick this ability except for lawls on quick match. Maybe on the first meteor down, since it always hits the middle, an infernal spawns similar to Naz's Gargantuan but weaker to compensate for the AOE damage being channeled. I feel the spawned Infernal would stay lore consistent and punish players who stay in the area of effect laughing at the little damage they and their buildings are taking.

Edit: Wow thought this would get buried! I really enjoyed reading the response on my way home from work everyone.

Team League queue times are ridiculous for average players after patch (Aus/NZ)

Posted: 22 Jun 2017 06:19 PM PDT

Been playing with a few mates ever since 2.0 came out, and we've absolutely been enjoying this game. However, since the Malthael patch, we are now constantly struggling to find games (we try almost every night). We usually queue as 3s or occasionally 5s, but never duo because we're advised 3s have improved queue times. Prior to the patch, it would take on average 5 minutes to find a game. In the past week, it's been taking 15 minutes on average, sometimes we just give up because it goes past half an hour.

The change in question: Team League matchmaking will now allow players to wait indefinitely until the system finds a reasonable match for their skill level.

To start with, we are mid-tier players. Last season we finished up silver/gold, and placed in mid plat this season. I was under the impression the above change was aimed at GM/Master/bronze players, anyone at the far ends of the ratings curve. I do understand Aus/NZ have smaller amount of players and higher queue times are a given, but for a good two months this wasn't as issue.

This has been repeatedly brought up on the ANZ HotS forums.

Ranked play in ANZ (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/heroes/topic/20753566972?page=2)

Hour long queue times? (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/heroes/topic/20756945592)

AUSTRALIA TL QUEUE TIMES. (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/heroes/topic/20756795550)

PRETTY GOOD TL QUEUES NOW. (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/heroes/topic/20756815532)

Props to blizzard though, since one of their representatives have already responded. I'm posting this here for increased visibility that this is a HUGE issue and for anyone else to voice their frustration. If it's not addressed, more players will stop playing, leading to even longer queue times and eventually a dead server.

Blizzard should look at loosening the matchmaking requirements on smaller servers. Also personally, we don't have an issue if we get matched against GM/master players, but we understand if others do. Another suggestion would be to give players the OPTION to be queued up against anyone outside their range, in the mutual interests of both groups finding a game in a timely manner.
