Weekly Challenge Thread (May 8th) - NPC Scavenger Hunt

Posted: 08 May 2017 03:29 AM PDT

Introduction to Weekly Challenges

Last week /u/Diamondpup and the mods started a weekly Breath of the Wild challenge to add some fun to our play through of this newest Zelda game. This week is my turn.

To recap, the overall rules for the weekly challenge are as follows:

  • A Challenge is issued every Monday.

  • Everyone who completes the challenge posts the results/proof in this thread as a comment.

  • We all upvote whoever we think did it best.

  • Person who wins gets to issue the Challenge for the next week (must provide screenshot/proof that they completed their own challenge first and it is indeed doable).

*You're welcome to vote on results with your upvotes, even if you don't want to try the challenge.

*If you win and don't have a challenge ready for the following week, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

*This is not a thread to brainstorm, share or issue new challenges so please keep your comments on topic for the current challenge (results, questions, help for others, etc.). If you have a Challenge in mind, please submit it privately to the Mods or OP; they can hang on to it in case a new challenge isn't up and ready.

Challenge! (May 8 2017)

This week's Challenge is a scavenger hunt. Basically, find and take a photo with the following NPCs:

Benny

Jora and Dillie

Moza

Dai

Laroba

Mimos

Celessa

Tye & Sorelia

Russ

Nell

Brigo

Nat & Meghyn

Bonus points if you post funny selfies with them or add an amusing caption to the photos. The funnier the better.

Best of luck finding them all!

Hints:

Chances are you've met most if not all of these characters but don't remember their names so I've included descriptions to help jog your memory.

Benny: Likes hanging out and looking around high places

Jora and Dillie: Think they're going to be big hits in Gerudo town... if they can ever find it.

Moza: Link mistook her dubious cooking experiments for a distress smoke signal

Dai: Boasts he can take on a Lynel but is afraid to actually do it.

Laroba:Sizes up every voe she sees for eligibility (except Link) but is starting to think she probably looks like a creep

Mimos: Keeps looking for love in the wrong place

Celessa: Is trying to re-create Princess Zelda's journey to Mt. Lanyaru

Tye & Sorelia: Looking for a Silent Princess

Russ: Sells shields for shield surfing

Nell: Went to pay his respects to his ancestors at Hyrule's Last Stand

Brigo: Cares about your mental health and would be traumatized if you died under his watch

Nat & Meghyn: They really love truffles

None of the NPCs are located in towns or have shrine/side quests associated with them.

Good luck everyone!

Finally getting a few weeks off from nursing school to replay this awesome game. Been about 4 years since my last play through.

I was always afraid that Redeads would patrol Kakariko Village at night in OoT...

Posted: 07 May 2017 01:23 PM PDT

I eventually got over that fear especially after discovering that sound I was hearing was only the cow inside that building. Only very recently did I discover the secret grotto near the tree in the center of the village that housed 2 Redeads. Finding out that a secret childhood fear of mine was always somewhat true and under my nose for nearly 2 decades felt very surreal.

How do you get dogs to lead you to treasure?

Posted: 08 May 2017 07:40 AM PDT

I've seen the following instructions on several sites for befriending dogs to take you to treasure. Here they are:

  • Stand near a dog and look at it. The first step is pretty easy. This should trigger the pink puff the first time.
  • Share some food with the dog. Drop any food in front of the dog and they should eat it. They don't seem to be very picky about what type of food is shared.
  • Once enough bond has built built up that the dog will follow Link around, try some short sprints. The dog will play chase and run after the player.
  • [Unconfirmed] Play fetch. If players have a tree branch equipped, they can throw the branch and the dog will run after it. Game Rant hasn't actually seen this method work, but other players are claiming it does increase bond.

How many dogs does this actually work with? I've tried it on several dogs, and I think it's only worked once so far, but maybe I just can't figure out how to increase my bond with dogs using sprinting again.

[BoTW][Spoilers] What did Zelda mean by what she said in the true ending?

Posted: 07 May 2017 09:08 PM PDT

She said that she can no longer hear the voice of the sword, but she's okay with that. Assuming she's talking about Fi, what does this imply?

CHALLENGE: Most valued (highest rupee sales price) of a crafted item? Mine is 590 rupees for an elixir. Anyone got something more than that?

Very simple (possibly stupid) BOTW question.

Posted: 08 May 2017 05:44 AM PDT

So I'm playing BOTW for the second time. First time I played was on my brother's Wii U. Now I'm on my own switch. On the Wii U version I remember there was a button to slow down and eventually stop a horse, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it on switch. I see the left stick can be used to brake but no horse I get will actually stop. So basically, my question is how do I get the horse to stop on the switch version of BOTW?

Which game should I play next?

Posted: 08 May 2017 01:24 AM PDT

Hi all, long time lurker here, first time posting. I recently got back into Zelda late last year when I bought a Wii U in preparation for Breath of the Wild, and now I'm trying to play through all of the games in the series that I can get my hands on.

So far, I've beaten these in this exact order:

1) A Link to the Past 2) Wind Waker 3) Phantom Hourglass 4) Ocarina of Time 5) Link's Awakening 6) Breath of the Wild 7) Minish Cap

I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them, with my favorite being Wind Waker. I have most of the games in the series, except for Four Swords Adventures and Triforce Heroes; if either of these are worth playing, feel free to recommend them!

OoT Question! What to do at Kakiro village? Weird graveyard guy isn't helping.

Posted: 08 May 2017 07:16 AM PDT

So i've recently started it on the 3ds ( i missed out on childhood zelda, my first game was phantom's hourglass) and i'm stuck at the point right after impa tells me to go to kakiro village, i'm supposed to go talk to that creepy graveyard guy but whenever i do nothing really happens and i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do in game at this point.

I thought about looking up a guide but i'd prefer as few spoilers as possible.

Beat all four Divine Beasts. Want to get all the side quests and shrines done before Ganon without using a map - best way to do this?

Posted: 08 May 2017 07:08 AM PDT

Just like the title says. I want to 100% as much as I can without the Korok seeds before I hit Ganon because I know I'll never play again.

However I've just been wandering around and only finding a handful of shrines for hours. What's the best way to go about discovering them?

I saw a quite confusing theory video and need your help to understand it

Posted: 07 May 2017 04:01 PM PDT

The video pretty much says, that there are only two realms in the entire Zelda universe, so Termina, Lorule and the Twilight reals are the same world.
Here is the video if you are interested in the argumentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guXHxiCAvSU
I highly doubt that because my view of the things is like the following: Majoas Mask and a Link between worlds take place in different timelines. Since the Link in MM is the same as the Link from Ocarina of Time who was send back to his original timeline, MM must take place between the point in OoT where link was send back to and the future in OoT where he defeated Ganon (since he is still a child in MM). So, if Link didn't come to Termina and stop the moon from crashing down, It would have gotten destroyed. So the Child Timeline is the only one where this did not happen since in the adult timeline and the timeline where Link lost against Ganon at the end of OoT, there was no Link between the events in the present and the future time in OoT. This could only mean, that in these two timelines Termina got obliterated! And this means, that Termina can't be the same as Lowrule. Am I right ore did I miss something and it could really be that there are just Hyrule and "the other" world?
