Big thank you to anyone who took a chance on coming to the event itself, that came out of no where. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I lucked out with the best staff I could have possibly asked for, and it was almost eerie how smoothly most of everything went. I hope you all had a wonderful time at Royal Flush. I'm wide open to improve the event in any way I can. Some things were already learned, like collaborating with local TOs a bit more. However, I'd like to hear your feedback to make Royal Flush even better. Any feedback, good or bad, would be great and a learning experience for me. Also maybe on my commentary too :). Thanks everyone, -Reno [link] [comments]
| OrionRank Recap Part 1/3: OrionRank 2016 Top 25 Post ZeRo Saga - Umebura Japan Major. Posted: 15 May 2017 12:08 PM PDT Hello everyone and welcome to the first part of OrionRank Recap. If you missed the introduction post, click here for a brief reading on what this is. Today I will be looking at our Top 25 of last year and see how they are holding up. I'll be looking at their placements, their wins, their losses, and their storylines throughout the tournaments we use for qualification. That list can be found in the OrionRank 2017 Qualification Thread here. Without further ado, let's get into it. TSM | ZeRo
ZeRo has been on a tear throughout 2017 taking 4/7 of the major tournaments he has been to. A lot of top players have been struggling to keep up but he has bled and has lost to 7 new people this year. One thing to note is 3 of those people come from Japan. ZeRo has lost to Brood DH at G4, Tsu Lucar at Frostbite, and Kirihara Rosa at FPS2 twice. Civil War became ZeRo's worst placement to date and lost to Xzax Fox, a player ZeRo has mentioned to give him trouble when he lived in SoCal, and Luhtie ZSS, a ZSS main from the Southwest. This does not take much away from this man as he has dominating records this year over Top 20 players. ZeRo is currently 3-0 over Nairo ZSS, 3-0 over Larry Lurr Fox, 3-0 over ESAM Pika, 5-0 over MKLeo MarthCloudLucar, 4-1 over Tweek CloudDK, and 4-1 over Mr.R SheikCloud. On top of that, he earlier in the year dominated Cloud players. Though this has been changing as ZeRo has taken losses to Tweek's, Ned's, and now Mr.R's Cloud in the past few months. ZeRo and Ally still have their rivalry going this year as well and are currently 2-2 this year. With ZeRo now using Lucina against him, it will be interesting to see how this match up progresses and how Ally adapts. ZeRo is still quite obviously number 1 right now, but the gap is coming closer. C9| Ally
Ally has been having a pretty good year so far. He has 2 strong rivalries going. One with ZeRo DiddyLucina (2-2) and one with Locus Ryu (2-1). He has had complete reign over Canada, including being 4-0 over Blacktwins MarioCloud and taking every Canadian event he is at. He has a solid rack of wins on top players such as Abadango Mew2, ANTi MarioCloud, CaptainZack Bayo, KEN Sonci, Kirihara Rosa, Ranai Villa and VoiD Sheik. He has had some trouble with a couple of players. So far this year Ally has not been able to take a set off of MKLeo Marth and is 0-3 versus him. On top of that, he is 0-2 versus tyroy Bayo this year as well. Ally has only had 2 not so great losses this year. One is against Shoyo James Luigi at Midwest Mayhem 6. The other is his infamous loss against Komota Kirby at Frostbite. Also, he lost to ESAM Samus, a player he has been quite dominant over, at Civil War. But other than that Ally is definitely in position as a Top 10 player. FOX MVG | MKLeo
MKLeo freed up Japan recently, taking both Umebura Japan Major and KSB and taking sets from ChocoZSS, Kirihara Rosa, Edge Diddy and KEN Sonic. On top of that, he is now 5-0 over Abadango MetaMew2 and 3-0 over komorikiri Cloud. MKLeo is still dominating Mexico as well but others may be starting to catch up evident to his loss to Javi CloudSheikat The Arena. MKLeo, as mentioned earlier, is 3-0 over Ally Mario as well has taken 1 of the 2 super majors this year so far. He did have a rough patch at Civil War due to illness but no Johns. He took losses to Meteor Sonic, a SoCal Sonic main and Ac Meta, the SoCal Meta Knight/Falco main and took his worst placement yet, 65th. He has issues against ZeRo Diddy (0-5), Tweek DKCloud(1-3) and Ryu this year lossing to Trela and takera (though takera was after UJM so it won't count). MKLeo is currently rivals with VoiD Sheik being 3-2 so far in their set count. He also has a bit of a rivalry going with Nairo ZSS being 2-2 in their set count. Overall MKLeo is looking like a potential Top 5 player. NRG | Nairo
Nairo is still going strong in 2017. While he hasn't Top 8 a supermajor his results have been amazing otherwise. Has a bunch of strong wins such as Abadango Mew2, Ally Mario, Earth Pit, Ranai Villa and Shuton Oli and has also had his time period of freeing up Japan with the Tokaigi Cup tournaments beating HIKARU DK and Kirihara Rosa as well. Nairo, as stated earlier, has been having a mini-rivalry with MKLeo Cloud and has a continuing rivalry with KEN Sonic being 3-2 with him this year. Nairo has had problems with ZeRo Diddy and Mr.R Sheik this year being 0-3 against both of them. His worse losses are Fatality Falcon and Locus Ryu at Civil War which isn't even bad at all. Nairo is still shaping out to be a Top 10 player this year. Even possibly Top 5. MSF | Larry Lurr
Larry Lurr has been the loser run master this year. Being upset by Chag Bayo in G4 and FOW Ness in Civil War, Larry got upset early but went on went on some great loser runs. In G4 he beat Kuro Pit, Xaltis Rosa, dyr Diddy, JK Bayo , k9sbruce Diddy and MVD Diddy but eventually lost to Ranai Villa for 13th and in Civil War he lost to FOW Ness and went off to beat DKWill DK, WaDi Mew2, Xzax Fox, Mr.E Lucina, komorikiri Cloud, and 9B Bayo. He was also upset at CEO Dreamland losing to Raito DH. On top of that Larry has beaten CaptainZack Bayo, Dabuz Rosa, ESAM Pika, VoiD Sheik, and Zinoto Diddy this year. His beef with Mr.R Sheik is backed up with his set count with him this year (1-2) making them sort of rivals. Larry has great placing and wins and has the potential for a Top 10 spot this year so far. LG | Abadango
Let's go over the bad things this year for Abadango. He is right now 0-5 vs MKLeo Marth and 0-3 vs Marss ZSS. He is having a bit of a Bayonetta problem losing to Black Yoshi, CaptainZack and JK so far this year. His results in Japan are a lot more consistent than last year but Frostbite was not great for him. He still has great supermajor results and wins over Elegant Luigi, HIKARU DK, KEN Sonic, komorikiri Cloud, Ranai Villa, Salem Sheik, Shuton Oli, Tsu Lucar, Tweek Cloud, and Zinoto Diddy. Abadango is resulting going to main Bayonetta, let's see how that goes for him. He has the potential to be Top 10, but could fall under others. Mr.R
Mr.R is the second most consistent player in Smash 4 this year. He is still reigning over Europe and is 5-0 against S-1 Ness. As mentioned he is 4-0 over Nairo ZSSLucina and is also 3-0 over Nietono Sheik. Mr.R trained in Japan for a while and has wins over players like Choco ZSS and 9B Bayo and has lost to Ron Mario, Ranai Villa, HIKARU DK, and Tsu Lucar. Mr.R has also been to the Middle East and performed well there as well. Mr.R has also beaten CaptainZack Bayo, Dabuz Rosa, KEN Sonic, and Larry Lurr Fox. He has been having trouble with ZeRo but seen at Royal Flush he is slowly catching up to him. Mr.R is definitley a contender for Top 5. MVG | Salem
Salem has continued his issue from last year. He is still underperforming at supermajors placing 25th at both of them. His placements at majors aren't that consistent later either Top 8 or not even Top 16. Though his losses wouldn't show that as all of his losses come from players who could be considered Top 20. He still has great wins though over Earth Pit, ESAM Pika, komorikiri Cloud, Nairo ZSS, Samsora Peach and Shuton Oli. He even beat Kome Shulk with his Samus. Salem is still a strong contender for Top 20 but definitely not Top 10. CLG | VoiD
While VoiD has not been consistently getting Top 8 at tournaments, he still is doing fairly well. He and Larry Lurr are both dominating SoCal and not losing to anyone below them there. As mention VoiD has a slight rivalry with MKLeo Marth being 2-3 in sets. While not a lot of Top 20 wins, VoiD still has beaten Abadango Mew2, CaptainZack Bayo, and ESAM Pika as well. VoiD is currently plausible for a Top 20 position, but probably not a Top 10. RNG | Dabuz
Dabuz is the most consistent player in 2017 so far. While in the beginning, he was a little discouraged with Rosa, he definitely has proven himself as a Top 5 player this year. Especially due to him winning and not dropping a set during Civil War. He has a lot of big wins including Ally Mario, ANTi Cloud, CaptainZack Bayo, Fatality Falcon, Glutonny Wario, Kameme Megaman, KEN Sonic, Kirihara Rosa, Larry Lurr Fox, VoiD Sheik, Zinoto Diddy, and more. He's had a bit of trouble against ZeRo Diddy (0-2), Nairo ZSS (0-2), and komorikiri Cloud (0-2) but has done great against Salem Bayo (2-0), Marss ZSS (2-0) and ESAM Pika (3-0). His only bad loss this year is against DSS Meta at Genesis Saga. IMT | ANTi
ANTi hasn't had the best 2017. He has been struggling to find his character and currently is using a Sheik/Mario combination. He still has some great moments like 9th at Genesis 4 and 3rd at Rise. He has wins over 9B Bayo, Salem Bayo and VoiD Sheik as well. Unfortunately, he has taken some losses for lower ranked players as well such as MVD Diddy, Nicko Shulk, Pugwest Marth, Raffi-X Rob and Raito DH. ANTi has a possibility for Top 25, but it doesn't seem too likely for him. 2GG | komorikiri
komorikiri has racked up quite the amount of strong wins this year. He has beaten Abadango Mew2, CaptainZack Bayo, Dabuz Rosa, Fatality Falcon, Tweek Cloud, and Zinoto Diddy. He is also 4-1 against Ranai VillaLucina. This year we have seen a rise of dominance in SoCal because of his 2GG sponsorship, but a bit of a falling off in Japan where he used to be taking every event. Tweek Cloud (1-3) and MKLeo Cloud (0-3) have been giving the most trouble this year and he is oddly 0-2 against Eon Fox, a SoCal Fox main. He has a sudo-rivalry with Fatality being 2-1 in sets. komorikiri definitely has the resume for a Top 10 position, but with recently falling off a bit from his strong performance earlier in the year, will he be able to keep it up before the year ends? EG | Zinoto
Zinoto is still following his trend from last year. He has not been able to show up at supermajors but continues to thrive in the Midwest region. He does have some pretty good wins this year like Ally Mario, komorikiri Cloud, Salem Bayo, Samsora Peach and WaDi Mew2. But Zinoto has accumulated some strange losses too. He has lost to Brood DH, Manny Sonic, and Sonido Sonic this year and at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more. Zinoto is still most likely Top 25 but I do not seem him being too high up the list. DNG | Kameme
Kameme has had a very up and down year. He hasn't been placing well at all at supermajors and has struggled to get Top 8 at most tournaments. He has recently switched mains from Megaman to Sheik and has recently Top 8 his first major since Smashdown World. He still has had some pretty great wins over Abadango Mew2, MKLeo Marth, Nietono Diddy, Ranai Villa, Tsu Lucario, and Zinoto Diddy. He has been struggling with Bayonetta shown by his 0-3 record with 9B and 0-2 record with CaptainZack as well as a 0-1 record with ikep. He also has some strange losses to Lea Gren, NAKAT Fox, and Xzax Fox. Currently, he is 3-2 in a rivalry with Shuton Oli. Kameme can still be considered Top 25 and his switch to Sheik may bring him back to a higher standing as shown with his recent sucess in Japan. DNL | Marss
Marss had a bit of a shaky start this year but recently has been doing very well. He is still extremely dominant in NE and hasn't dropped a tournament he has entered and is dominating Abadango Mew2 with a set count 0f 3-0. He has wins over ANTi Mario, Kameme Mega, Locus Ryu, Mr.E Marth, Salem Bayo, and Tweek Cloud as well. The player who has been giving him the most trouble is ESAM Pika, currently 0-3 in sets. Marss has the potential for being a Top 10 player but has failed to secure any other Top 10 wins aside Abadango. If he wants to succeed he needs to secure those wins. PG | ESAM
ESAM had been having a great year compared to last year. He has secured great wins over Ally Mario, Earth Pit, Kameme Mega, and Larry Lurr Fox. On top of that, he is 3-0 over Marss. He has a bit of a rivalry with VoiD Sheik recently being 1-1. He also one with Samsora Peach being 1-2. He still is having trouble with beating ZeRo Diddy and has a lot of trouble with Rosalina being 0-3 with Dabuz and Kirihara. ESAM is a solid Top 20 player right now but won't be Top 10 until he gets over his weaknesses. Maybe his Samus can help as it has been better than ever this year. Tyrant
Tyrant's placing last year was a bit off to some people and it is why we limited the number of tournaments looked at this year. Tyrant has had complete unsuccess at majors and has taken upsets from Big D Mario, Eon Fox, KOSSismoss G&W, Luhtie ZSS, Nicko Shulk, Remzi ZSS, Shoyo James Diddy, and Skorpio Robin. On top of that his only big wins this year are ESAM Pika, MKLeo Marth, Rich Brown Mew2 and Zenyou Mario. He still has had some solid results at nationals but he is definitely not Top 25 material so far this year. P1 | Tweek
Tweek has been relatively inconsistent this year. He had an amazing start to the year but started getting shotty placements when he hit Frostbite and has taken some questionable losses to Blank Sheik, Charliedaking Fox, Eon Fox, ImHip Oli, Kome Shulk and Myran Oli. That doesn't stop him from having some amazing wins over Marss ZSS, Salem Bayo, VoiD Sheik, WaDi Mew2, and ZeRo Diddy. On top of that, he has a great record on komorikiri Cloud (3-1) and MKLeo Cloud (3-1) this year. While Tweek has some consistency issues, he still is able to qualify as a Top 20 player due to his outstanding record with his Cloud and DK. FOX MVG | Mew2King
Mew2King is not living up to his hype from last year. Bad placements at major tournaments and no really good wins. His only decent wins this year are iStudying Gren, MrConCon Luigi, Myran Oli, Ryo Ike and taranito Ness. He's taken a question loss to Child Bayo and keeps the question going if he has a Bayo problem. Mew2King is not a Top 25 player and will continue not to be if he doesn't keep up and keep dropping out of events. Trela
While Trela is retired now from Smash, he could have had the potential to be a Top 20 player is he continued. Having won over Ac Meta, Javi Cloud, MKLeo Cloud, and Rich Brown Mew2, he still had a fairly solid record for the few tournaments he entered. His only losses for this year were Fatality Falcon and Shuton Oli at Civil War which isn't even that bad. Best of luck to Trela and whatever he pursues now. Ranai
Ranai has been a lot more active than ever this year. He has still shown to be a top player taking wins from komorikiri Cloud, Javi Cloud, Larry Lurr Fox, Marss ZSS, Mr.R Sheik, and Salem Bayo. Ranai has been quite inconsistent though in terms of placements. He has been taking losses form players like Kisha Bowser and Tosshi Char and is 1-4 with komorikiri CloudSonicMarth and 0-3 against Earth Corrin. He has bit of a Mewtwo problem this year losing to Abadango, Rich Brown and WaDi at major tournaments. Ranai still has the potential for Top 25, but his inconsistencies and DLC weakness will hold him back in the rankings. Maybe his recent pick up of Lucina will help him out. KEN
KEN has shown to be an absolute monster with Sonic in Japan and has taken first on their PR. He has been for the most part dominant in Japan and has taken sets from Abadango Mew2, Choco ZSS, Dabuz Rosa, ESAM Pika, Kameme Sheik, komorikiri Cloud, MKLeo CloudMeta, and Ranai Villa. He is also 5-0 against 9B Bayo. He is still keeping up with Nairo ZSS and continuing their rivalry with a 2-3 record this year. While bustering out at Frostbite, he will be back in the US for Nairo Saga. Let's see if he can continue his reign in the US and maintain relevant to be Top 25. DNG | Nietono
Nietono has recently dropped his Diddy Kong in favor of solo Sheik. While he was for the most part still gaining great results with Diddy, this change has shown rapid improvement and has gotten Nietono to 5th at a major. His success with Sheik has gotten him wins over FOW Ness, Kameme Sheik, komorikiri Cloud and Ranai Villa. Funny enough is kryptonite player is a player who's not even from Japan. He is currently 0-3 vs Mr.R Sheik. Nietono has a case for Top 25 currently but I think if he continues the track he is on he will be guaranteed a spot here. Earth
Earth had a slow start in 2017 and is hasn't been able to show up at majors. He started picking himself up by February and has been slowly switching to Corrin as his main since. He has some great results and wins over Abadango Mew2, KEN Sonic, komorikiri Cloud, VoiD Sheik, and is dominating Ranai Villa. But at the same time, he has some not great results and a couple of bad losses from Kare~ Falcon, Paru Bowser, and Gungnir Ganon. Earth has also had a Bayo problem being 1-4 vs 9B, 1-2 vs ikep, and 0-1 vs CaptainZack this year. Earth also has a solid case from Top 25 but there is a solid chance he will be outclassed by others. RvL | Mr.E
Mr.E is in a weird place right now. He is either Top 16 or just straight bombing at major tournaments and is in the middle of changing from Marth to Lucina as well. He has won over Captain Zack Bayo, Elegant Luigi, Fatality Falcon and Kameme Mega but has some not so great losses to Cashmere Falcon, Darkshad Ryu, DJ Fliphop Diddy, JK Bayo, John Numbers WFT, MVD Diddy, Myran Oli and his worst loss yet to PK Kid Ness at CEO Dreamland. At the current moment Mr.E isn't that strong of a candidate for Top 25 but if his success from KTAR and Gltich spread to major tournaments, he will have a better shot. That is all for Part 1. Hopefully, this was able to give you an insight on players so far this year. Tomorrow I will cover the players who weren't OR Top 25 last year but have a solid case for it now. [link] [comments]
| With the completion of Royal Flush, Lets talk about the timer Posted: 15 May 2017 01:02 PM PDT AFAIK, the 7 minute timer had little to no impact on tournament game play at Royal Flush. It was seeing your community's support of Smash Summit that helped convince us that we would be able to gain support from our community. Our event, called the Gold Rush LAN, just ended tonight, and we're already looking forward to planning another one. Shout-outs to Smashgg for their compendium tools which enabled us to fund the event as quickly as we did! If any of you have questions, we'd be happy to answer.
