Hearthstone - Upgrading Duplicate Legendaries to Golden

Upgrading Duplicate Legendaries to Golden

Posted: 19 Apr 2017 03:23 AM PDT

[TLDR] Idea: 2 identical Legendaries can be traded for their golden equivalent

From experience, opening two identical legendaries is incredibly frustrating and disappointing, as well as quite detrimental to any collection which is not based on a 'Kripparian' amount of packs. This simple fix would make pack opening a lot less frustrating for players and in turn hopefully encourage people to buy more packs and to keep playing the game. On a sidenote, I am fully aware of the obligatory 'Blizzard calculated everything' assumption being thrown around, but maybe they didn't. Or they got the long-term calculation wrong. I think that allowing people to trade two identical legendaries for its golden equivalent would definitely increase the player experience during pack opening by a lot without giving away unreasonably much 'free' content. Moreover, it would stop people from being too hesistant about crafting legendaries. Have you ever been unsure whether you should craft a legendary or wait another 20 packs at the start of an expansion in order to avoid getting duplicates? Now you won't be left with a duplicate, but either a shiny golden legendary or 1600 Dust.

Cheers!

Unpopular opinion: the fact that over 50% of all people voted The Marsh Queen as 'Meta-defining' on Hearthpwn really shows how little trust Blizzard should put in its community when it comes to making cards.

Posted: 19 Apr 2017 02:04 AM PDT

55% of thousands of people who looked at this refund-worthy sizzling hot pile of cr*p thought it would actually be good. Now you know why I find it hilarious when random people on this sub or elsewhere claim to actually be skilled at the game. You also know why Blizzard gives not a single damn about popular opinions. If they did they would have probably gone bankrupt a while ago already.

Tavern Brawl this week: An Ancient Recipe!

Posted: 19 Apr 2017 09:04 AM PDT

Pick a class this week, and you get an Un-Goro themed deck; looks to be the Quest deck for each hero

Edit for full description: Un'goro has lain dormant for eons... and it hides many delicious treats! Pick a class and we'll cook you up the Un'goro Deck Recipe for that hero.

Reward is a classic pack, for those curious

Important Note! Shaman, Hunter, and Mage DO NOT HAVE THE QUEST.

So no Murloc-pocolypse, Raptor Run Down, or Timey Wimey quests in this brawl. Mage looks to be an Un'Goro spell + Elemental-themed deck, Hunter has Dinomancy themed deck, and Shaman has an AOE + Elemental themed deck

Life is like Hearthstone

Posted: 18 Apr 2017 11:30 PM PDT

Some of us started with a good hand, some of us with a bad one. Some of us like to control on what we put out, some of us like to go all in. Some became pirates that likes to meet people face to face, some are... murlocs. Sometimes when things go bad, we rely on that one top deck or RNG to save us. We can choose what we want to be but in the end, only those with money can do that.

Hearthstone Crafting Guide For The Journey to Un'Goro Meta

Hearthstone Crafting Guide for a Post Un'Goro Meta

Posted: 19 Apr 2017 08:10 AM PDT

Hey Reddit,

I wanted to share a crafting guide of a post Un'Goro Hearthstone. The approach of this guide is a bit different compare to most crafting guides. Instead of picking specific cards (card first approach), we will pick a deck to build towards. So even though Jaraxxus may seem like a great card to craft, it's not worth it right now since Warlock is the least viable deck at the moment. And I don't see the benefits of crafting cards without picking a deck first!

Blizzard has also shown us they are willing to move remove from the Classic set (Sylvanas, Ragnaros), this means cards like Thalnos and Leeroy are not as safe as they used to be.

Standard Format

This crafting guide is based on the Standard format, which consist of the following expansions/adventures:

Standard Format Expansions/Adventures

  • Classic Set
  • Journey to Un'Goro Expansion (2017)
  • Meanstreets of Gadgetzan (2016)
  • One Night in Karazhan (2016)
  • Whispers of the Old Gods (2016)

Keep in mind that Gadgetzan, Karazhan and Old Gods will be rotating out in 2018. So if you are a newer player, it may be better to invest in the cards you need from the Classic Set and the Journey to Un'Goro expansion first!

Reminder

Six card (originally part of the Classic set) - Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros the Firelord, Power Overwhelming, Conceal and Ice Lance - are now Wild format only.

Basic Tips

Here are some pointers when deciding on what to craft:

  • if you are a newer player, prioritize cards from the Classic Set and the Journey to Un'Goro expansion first
  • decide on a deck that you would like to play (make sure that deck is Legend viable and a top tier deck - this will help you with your daily quests and monthly rewards)
  • look at your collection and see what cards you own and what you need to build it
  • you may wish to pick a deck that contain the least amount of cards that is rotating out in 2018, so your dust and money goes further

Picking a Competitive Deck

Right now there are a lot of top tier decks that are Legend viable and competitive! All the example decklists have been updated to their latest versions on the ranked ladder.

The only class that is behind all other classes is Warlock. So we suggest hold off crafting any Warlock related cards for now.

Surviving the Next Rotation

Here is a look at the cards used in each of decks listed above, sorted by the expansions each card comes from. We will ignore cards with the Basic and Common rarity - they're much cheaper in costs and more easily obtainable compared to the other rarities.

This will help you easily see which deck contain cards that are rotating out of Standard in 2018, so you can make a more informed decision.

Notes

  • Freeze Mage has been around since the start of Hearthstone. Its core cards are all from the Classic set. It's the safest deck to build.
  • With some extra cards, you can transform Freeze Mage into the new Burn Tempo Mage deck.
  • If you want to build Token Druid, use the classic list since it is less expensive (minus one Legendary - Finja, the Flying Star. However, Finja is used in plenty of other decks that uses the Murloc package ie: Murloc Paladin)
  • Jade Shaman is the only meta deck that uses cards from all 5 sets.
  • The cheapest deck is Midrange Hunter (1,880 dust) and the most expensive deck is Miracle Rogue (13,640 dust).

Hope you guys found this crafting guide useful! Un'Goro's meta has been great so far, even if we're still in the early phases. All of the eight classes are much more distinct from each other. The only nagging bit would be the disappearence of the Warlock class and the heavy presence of the Pirate package (similar to Azure Drake before it was moved to Wild).

PS: If anyone knows how I can format the tables here on Reddit so that the multiple cards in a single cell can be on individual lines, that'd be great!

Blizzard should address the Tavern Hero Qualifiers

Posted: 19 Apr 2017 09:08 AM PDT

The Tavern Hero Qualifiers tournament series was introduced last year by Blizzard as a way to qualify for the seasonal championships through local tournament performance. You have to physically attend one of these fireside gatherings to participate. If at least 16 people participate in the Tavern Hero Qualifier and the winner gets invited to participate in a Tavern Hero Championship the day before the respective season playoffs. The top 8 from that tournament get to join the top 64 point earners in the season playoffs.

Sounds like a fairly important tournament series right? Players coming together at the tavern and competing to potentially be in the biggest tournaments of the year. From my experience these tournaments often end up feeling less than well put together. I try to go to as many of these as I can. While some of them have been put on excellently with solid attendance, prize support, and friendly people, it has certainly not been the case a majority of the time.

On one occasion the internet was not able to handle all the people playing at once which resulted in constant disconnects and interruption. Feels like a basic requirement to host a hearthstone tournament should be quality internet connection.

More than once I've traveled to one of the tournaments only for it to not have 16 people. When this happens, the tournament is effectively rendered pointless because it no longer awards an invite to the Tavern Hero Championship. I think that Blizzard implemented this rule to avoid people submitting tournaments, not advertising them, and declaring themselves the winner. I believe that there must be a better a way for Blizzard to police these kind of problems.

The formats for these tournaments tend to be a little all over the place. I believe that Blizzard encourages hosts to run double elimination bracket tournaments, with Conquest bring 3 decks, no ban, best of 3 matches. This is different from the Conquest bring 4 decks, 1 ban, best of 5 format. That being the format used in most major tournaments, and I think has a higher skill cap. Sometimes this format is run as a best of 3 instead of a best of 5. Meaning you wouldn't need to get a win with one of the decks. This defeats the purpose of conquest format. Double elimination brackets combined with no time limits create long days. In one tournament I attended with 19 participants, I had to wait 4 hours before my next match. This happens when one side of the bracket goes faster than the other, with contributions from the loser brackets. Swiss format is more traditionally used in card game tournaments. This way everyone plays every round, the number of rounds is dependant on the number of players, and they still are effectively double elimination.

Another problem I've come across is that these tournaments can be held on any day of the week. This allows for a lot of variability in how much time is available for a tournament. I've encountered organizers that didn't have a reasonable idea of how much time a tournament would take. There was a fireside gathering yesterday, that started around 6 o'clock. It had around 45 participants but was only able to have 3 rounds of swiss. This is too few rounds for the number of players.

Blizzard recently released a designer insights video for fireside gatherings specifically:

Designer Insights

While I think that these are all interesting and potentially positive additions to the fireside gathering experience, they don't jump out to me as solutions to what I see as the main problems with the most important fireside gatherings. I'd love to hear other people's positive/negative experiences with the tavern hero qualifiers from around the globe. Are they run well? Do they meet your expectations? Do you guys attend them at all?

I think it would be great if Blizzard created more concrete guidelines for these tournaments to follow. They could also make more of an effort to ensure that they happen regularly for each season(Winter, Spring, Summer). This way they can grow into a more widely attended tournament series that benefits the players.

If you're wondering how do I find out about Tavern Hero Qualifiers here is a list of all the currently planned tournaments:

Chinese law set to reveal exact HS pack opening drop rates?

Posted: 18 Apr 2017 01:15 PM PDT

According to multiple articles, China is set to implement a law May 1 that would require game publishers to disclose the drop rate of RNG items like packs or loot boxes.

Source: Law (Chinese), Article

Although this doesn't affect other countries it would obviously be of great interest if Blizzard is forced to reveal these numbers in China.

Anyone know more details on this law? Have any companies complied yet?

Hey Reddit, I'm starting a new video series with Yahoo Esports to create educational content called "Dech Techs". The first episode is Caverns Rogue!

Posted: 18 Apr 2017 01:10 PM PDT

https://youtu.be/l7a9zSAB6kw

Hey everyone, I wanted to introduce a new educational video series I'm doing with Yahoo Esports to show beginner level players top decks of Un'Goro.

We took one deck per class and tried to break down why the cards are in there and what specific things to look for such as:

  • important cards
  • mulligans
  • combos/synergies
  • budget considerations

All decks have hit at least top 100 legend or higher. This edition was recorded a week after Un'Goro came out (as noted by my hair difference prior to the Red Bull event), so today's lists might be slightly updated.

Caverns Rogue isn't the most popular deck on this forum, but understand this is an effort to teach the playerbase about the meta's current form and the variety of ways to play. I believe we're releasing Warrior tomorrow and Mage after that.

Let me know what you guys think! I'm trying to improve the content to be even better so toss any suggestions/preferences my way either on this thread or on my Twitter.

This has got to be the best expansion since I've been playing HS

Posted: 18 Apr 2017 10:49 AM PDT

I started playing HS around the end of Nax, then seriously got into the game right before WoToG. Since that time I've never seen an expansion with so many different ways to play the game, so many different combos to explore, and such a positive reaction from the community.

It feels like even this far in we have no idea what the meta is giong to look like in the future, and that's really exciting to see. Sure we'll see the same decks here and there, but the fact that I can go on ladder and see almost every class is really exciting to me, and I want to commend blizzard for the fantastic job they did this expansion!

Level Cap should be increased, leveling up gives rewards

Posted: 18 Apr 2017 06:32 PM PDT

The title says it but I think that the level cap should be increased. And when you level up, you get rewards. Some of the rewards could be dust, card back for the class you leveled up, gold, or maybe even an extra quest.
