| Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:10 PM PDT So yesterday I posted a preview (selfies) of my Pool Party Caitlyn cosplay, and a lot of people wanted to see my gun, and the rest of the finished cosplay. Just got the first photo back from our photoshoot, and I wanted to share it here! I hope you guys enjoy! A note, I know this isn't a super complicated cosplay. I just love Caitlyn, and thought it was a cute and fun design for summer, so to show my love for it, I tried to get it done quickly for photos (I live in a crappy part of Canada where we get about two weeks of summer). I hope despite that you guys like it! | Posted: 19 Jul 2018 05:53 AM PDT Hi guys Riot Hardstuck here with the new rework for Nunu! We wanted to make sure we kept the core Nunu audience on board by keeping what is appealing about him but also trying to update him more to modern League of Legends. Let's get right in! Nunu - The God of YetisLore: Nunu is the god of Yetis from Mount FuckYou. His brother is SuperMario and his sister is Jhin. He hates Zoe, but don't we all. Context: Most people thought Nunu was the yeti and not the boy, so to clear up confusion we just got rid of the boy and made Nunu the yeti. His in depth relationships with other characters plucked out of thin air help us to retcon even more lore to make sure players have no idea what the fuck is going on, so they don't question how the game ties into anything at all. You will get to explore this lore in Nunu's extensive 900 hour voice lines, however you will only ever hear one in game which is a pun on the word "yeti" that an intern made up and was subsequently fired for. Passive: You won't like me when I'm angry - Nunu no longer has mana, but instead has rage, every third auto attack increases his rage by 1. Context: A lot of our silver balance team complained that they always ran out of mana on Nunu when playing him, so we made all his abilities free to cost and gave him a resource bar instead. Passive: True Visionary Nunu can see the outcome of a game in champ select. Context: Visionary was a very important part of Nunus identity, but as he no longer has mana we wanted to give him something truly unique. Hence True Visionary. Q: Consume (10/9/8/7/6 Second Cooldown) Nunu does 100/200/300/400/500(+0.7AP) true damage to any monster or minion. If he has over 100 rage then he can target champions, but this costs 50 rage. If when he loses 50 rage he is under 100 rage this will slow nunu down for 10% of his movement speed unless he is in the river in which case he will actually gain 5% movement speed and 10AD. If this ability is used in the 34th minute on an enemy Nasus while he is q'ing a canon minion you automatically win the game. Context: We felt consume was a bit basic and lacked a lot of flavor, so we made it more rewarding to skillful players. We didn't want to change much as it was such a core part of the identity of Nunus kit. W: Nunu jumps a ridiculous distance. Context: N/A E: Ice Blast (Range:550)(8/7/7/6/6/5 Second Cooldown) Nunu launches a ball of ice at an enemy unit, dealing 80/120/160/200/240 (+90% Ability Power) magic damage and slowing their Movement Speed by 40/45/50/55/60% and Attack Speed by 25% for 2 seconds. BUT NOW IT IS A SKILLSHOT Context: Here at riot our NUMBER ONE priority when reworking champions is to make sure that anything that was point and click becomes a skillshot. We really love bullet time games and hopefully with enough time League will be classified as one. R: Absolute Zero Counterplay (300/200/100 Second Cooldown) Nunu consumes all his rage and true freezes every champion on the map for that many seconds (eg if he had 3 rage he would freeze everyone for 3 seconds.) When they are true frozen, enemy champions are immune but cannot move or use abilities. Context: Can't wait to buff this in the next 5 patches until we have to release a hot fix to stop pro players killing themselves. BTW next legendary skin is for Nunu alright peace out. | A reminder to never hover your champion Posted: 19 Jul 2018 06:58 AM PDT Woke up super early today (5am) so I could get a ranked game in on my favorite spooky boy karthus before work. I end up getting my 2nd lane choice of top and I made the brutal mistake of actually hovering my champion. Dumbasses don't understand the value of karthus top lane being able to contribute to bot lane fights while staying on the top lane island with his ult. Additional benefit when you're first pick is that the enemy is bound to assume you're mid lane and counter pick you in the wrong lane. This leads to greater success for both you and your mid laner. BOOM my brainless support bans karthus. It's morning and I woke up just to play karthus so I'm grumpy. I want to believe it was a mistake but I know it wasn't so I bitch them out. Assuming they will just lie and say they didn't see my mind is blown as they fess up to it. This player goes on to say it isn't a good pick (tell that to D1+ karthus top lane mains). I say he/she has no right to pick for me. He/she responds "I just did." Queue loading screen and they're on Leona without any mastery at all. So nice of them to ban out my mastery 7 champ, then play a mastery 0 champ then feed their ass off and lose the game. Here's to you, Leona. You are the kind of dirt bag this game doesn't need. | If riot wants more new players then they need to hype the game more Posted: 18 Jul 2018 08:53 PM PDT 5 years ago Riot released one of their most hyped champion teasers ever "Get Jinxed" As of now it has 73 million views https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nlJuwO0GDs. I remember it getting #1 in trending on YouTube. If riot wants new players then they need to hype up the game like this more. It doesn't have to be hype around a new champion but I seriously think riot needs to put more effort into hyping up their game. The new Akali trailer was the most pathetic low effort video I've seen in a while and I think they need to invest more time into things like this. | A new player's opinion on League's new player experience Posted: 19 Jul 2018 09:41 AM PDT (TL;DR: A new player is put off from the game because the low levels have an awful, extremely toxic community and some lame progression.) Apologies in advance for the wall of text. These are just my opinions and experiences and I welcome any responses, agreeing or otherwise, and thank those of you who do read for doing so. While I may not be able to convince myself to keep playing, I feel these are issues that must be addressed if the community and company wants their game to continue growing. A friend recently asked me to play League with them to help them complete missions that required fresh accounts in the party. I figured there was no reason not to, since the game's free and I've always thought any game could be fun with friends, but boy did this game prove me wrong. Trying to play League has honestly been the worst experience I've had in the decades I've spent gaming. Let me give 3 reasons why this is the case (the first is by far the worst and most important), and some suggestions for how it could have been changed to get me invested and keep me interested. 1: The low-level community in this game is without a doubt the worst community I've ever seen in a game. It is difficult to even play the game purely because of how awful the people in it are. It feels like almost every match I play is ruined by trolls, smurfs, or, more often, both. Often these players hold the majority share in each lobby with one or two unlucky newbies trapped in the middle. I've had way too many games where one guy is a high level player making a fresh account, they destroy their lane opponent, and that person (who was usually also high level) then spends the rest of the game flaming in chat, blaming their team for being low level, and going out of their way to ruin everyone else's game. Not that trolls really need that much of a reason. It seems people will troll and throw for any reason they can think of, or for no reason at all. Sometimes people tell us in the lobby that they're going to throw the game. Just yesterday someone told us that they were going to throw unless we said that all women should be beneath men during champion select, and then proceeded to spend the entire game running into the enemy to give them free kills, telling them where we were, and flaming us in chat until we lost. And there's nothing you can do about it when someone decides to do that other than wait for the game to end, suffering through a match that you might as well not have shown up to because someone else ruined it regardless of how hard you tried. I could write a book just on all the horrible things I've had said to me in a few days in League, and all the ridiculous justifications people have given for them, but I won't take that much time. I get flamed constantly for being bad at the game, but of course I'm bad at the game. I just started! At first I thought this was happening because I was getting matched with high level players as a result of having a high level friend in my group, but even playing without him there I still get matched up with people who are obviously not new way too often. In fact I would say that in most of my matches so far the number of actually new players is lower than that of veterans on new accounts. It just feels bad to try to learn a game and be unable to play with other new players, but rather to get dumped into matches of experienced players who bully you constantly, both in their ability to outplay you, and in their endless flaming. I get flamed for being bad, but I don't even feel like I have a fair chance to learn and get better. Even if I warn my team ahead of time that I'm new and not very good and will probably need help I still get flamed for it, and usually don't get the help I asked for any ways. So in the end I'm left feeling like there was nothing I could have done and I just wasted everyone's time, especially my own, in a game where I never had a hope of making an impact. It's a cycle of toxicity that is incredibly demotivating as a new player, and it happens so frequently that today I found myself hoping not for a game with no jerks, trolls, or smurfs, but for a game where the trolls were on the enemy team and the smurfs on mine so I could get carried to a win and have at least something to feel good about in some small way other than just losing and being told it was all my fault and I should uninstall and die over and over and over again for not measuring up to players who have been here for years. And it really doesn't feel like there's any escape from these toxic people. Sure I can report them, but most of the reports don't seem to have any effect. When they do, I occasionally get a pop-up thanking me and telling me that "one warning is often enough to stop the baddies" except that every game I'm in screams otherwise. I frequently see people in my games mentioning that they've been banned and are making a new account. The last game I played today had a guy say that he had just been perma-banned for the third time and this was his first PvP game on his fresh account. After he died once he refused to help our team and instead spent the rest of the match flaming in chat while offering free kills to the enemy, so obviously he learned nothing from the bans before, and probably won't change if my report gets him banned again. If perma-bans aren't stopping these people, how can I believe a warning is stopping them? And even if they get more than a warning and get banned, then they're just going to make a new account and get put right back in the queue with us low level players again anyways. I've seen enough of my friend playing to know that eventually the community mellows out and there are even, balanced matches down the road with people who are more chill and pleasant, but if I hadn't seen that then as a new player it would feel like there was no escape from the lopsided, toxic, miserable matches that fill up the overwhelming majority of the matches I've been in so far. Even knowing that, I struggle to think it's worth the dozens of hours it would take to get to where my friend is if this pool of toxicity is what I have to swim through that whole time to get there. I understand that any online community is going to have some level of toxicity and unpleasantness, but the levels to which these things are present in the early stages of League is inexcusable and detrimental to the longevity of the game itself. The way Riot deals with this aspect of the community NEEDS to change. While the current system may work for discouraging bad behaviour at higher levels, at low levels there's nothing stopping a community built purely on toxicity and bullying and that's bad for new player retention, which any game needs. There should be harsher punishments for repeat offenders in these areas. It's ridiculous that someone can make 4 accounts and still be allowed to act horribly to everyone around them with no fear of anything other than a minor inconvenience, which is really all an account ban is after you've been reset the first time. Additionally, having more rewards for good behaviour, and for accurate reporting of toxic behaviour could help encourage a more positive environment. It may also help to have ways to get into preferred queues that games such as CSGO have implemented. The following two points are minor nitpicks compared to the first, which I believe is the game's main problem when it comes to the new player experience and which is the reason I really can't continue playing the game in its current state, but they are still annoyances that prevented me from getting into the game as much as I could have and so I felt I might as well include them. 2: Early progression feels quite clunky. The way the game forces you down a path of specifically unlocked champions for a lot of the early quests leaves you with a very mundane pool from which to choose early on and makes progression at times feel pointless, as the next reward you're working towards can be something you have no interest in at all. Something that hurts twice as bad when you also think that something you are interested in could have been there instead. I get that the game is trying to funnel you into playing easy champions when you start, but if that's not the style of play you like you're just going to have a bad time for a while, especially since the game's BE rewards seem to slow to a tiny trickle after the initial burst. My first capsule gave me like 3k BE, but every one since has just given 400-500, which makes it hard to get to playing champions you like early on. I can't help thinking it would be a lot more satisfying if those early easy champions were just unlocked immediately and the rewards moved straight into giving you BE so you could build a little handful of champs you like to get you going early on as well. 3: The rune system's tiered unlocks are frustrating and annoying, not helpful. I sort of get the game forcing you to take rune pages it chooses for champions at the start, but it goes on too long, and even when the system starts to open up, that's stretched out WAY too much. This is unpleasant for a couple reasons. The first is that early on certain champions have clear advantages just based on their preset rune pages being closer to optimal, which feels like some players just get a bit of a hidden cheat when you're playing based on having picked champions that have better luck with default pages. The second is that the sheer amount of time it took me to be allowed to actually make a page is, frankly, insulting. The system is not particularly complex. I understood the basics right away and was ready to make changes to the default pages to better fit my champions before I was even allowed to pick a page at all, but I had to wait for days of playing to be permitted to do so. It just felt unjustifiably patronizing that the game would tell me "oh no you're just not ready for those things yet. They're too deep for a noob like you" while I had clearly seen obvious improvements long before. Additionally, there's many guides online for each champion that are well written and regularly updated to ensure that if you don't know how to play someone, there's always a seasoned veteran to tell you how. In my case, since my introduction was through a friend, I had someone with me who had played tons of hours and knew what was good on most champs I had access to, but I wasn't allowed to follow their advice. Why would there be events created around the idea of veterans bringing their friends to the game and helping them get started if us new players aren't even allowed to follow their advice? I would suggest getting rid of the continual unlocking completely. It would be more enjoyable if the game suggested a page for each champion, but let you change them as you saw fit right away. The rune system is simple and intuitive enough to be typically understood for each champion after a game or two of play, especially after you've tried a few. But I can at least see the logic in that aspect of the tutorializing, so if that's seen to be too much freedom too early, then at the very least when the ability to create pages is unlocked, it should be unlocked all at once rather than in increments. That aspect serves no purpose other than pure, patronizing annoyance. | Posted: 19 Jul 2018 01:06 PM PDT Just an interesting tidbit I noticed. First Blood rate includes kills and assists, of course. While somewhat random, being involved in First Blood for the first 9 games of a split is an impressive feat, and achieving this twice has to be some kind of record although there's probably no way to put this into statistical context due to the obscurity of this fact. There's no direct evidence for this claim regarding Spring 2016 because obviously no site tracks stuff like that, but I am a big Reignover fan (therefore this post, I won't obscure the intentions of this post), so you gotta trust me on that. If you look up the games, you'll see that I'm right, if I have time, maybe I'll edit in the videos of the 9 games later. His streak ended in IMT's 10th game when Wildturtle and Adrian got a 2v2 kill in lane after two minutes. This split, Reignover has been under the radar a bit, but has actually had something close to a bounce-back season. He has not only got First Blood for his team every game, but has generally been one of the best, if not the best early game jungler most likely so far. Experience and Gold differences are not interpretable in this funnel-heavy meta, so it's hard to find statistical evidence, but CLG leads the league in GD@15, and Reignover has been the catalyst for that, being involved in 26 of CLG's 27 kills pre-15 minutes. He's 9/3/17 @15, they played one game against OPT funneling with PoE on Smite Kai'sa and Gate on Exhaust Braum - if you consider Gate the jungler, the enemy jungler is 6/6/8 @ 15, if you think it's PoE, it's 9/5/6 @ 15. While not being the most meaningful statistics, Reignover also leads the league in Kill Participation as well as all junglers in KDA. However, it is also undeniable that his occasional positioning blunders from the mid game on have played a significant role in CLG being sometimes unable to transition their early leads into a W. That said, just as his teammates, Reignover has played much better this season and it's no coincidence that CLG is tied for 1st. Let's see how long he can prolong his First Blood streak!
