Posted: 05 Feb 2018 03:50 AM PST

Welcome to /r/Smite's weekly God Class Discussion Megathread. This is a place for the community to get together and discuss, theorycraft, and ask for help on playing each class.

This week we are focusing on MAGES.

Some ideas to get you started might include:

  • Tips and advice for playing any or all Mages
  • Good builds, bad builds, and everything in between
  • What roles in each gamemode to play Mages in
  • Where Mages fit into the meta
  • Buffs or nerfs you would make and why

And anything else you can think of!

  • Anubis
  • Ao Kuang

Came back to Smite, ready to buy gems for skins ... literally every skin I wanted was limited or exclusive

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:33 AM PST

geez do you think there is enough limited or Exclusive skins in the game? I know that's how you make your money but it would be nice if there were some decent ones that are actually purchasable outright and not through chests.

With the release of season 5, wouldn't it be a good idea to finally preselect your role?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:43 AM PST

I just don't really understand why this is so hard. In a traditional moba you generally have 5 roles: top, mid, jung, supp and adc. Why can't I queue as a role lol? It's absurdly outdated at this point and probably should be looked at.

IF queue times are that much of an issue, evolve has a system in terms of 1-5 preference you're able to list before queueing. You'd obviously still get the role you don't want but not as much.

Edit: Complaints about population come off as troll. Evolve doesn't have a fraction of smite's playerbase yet the system proves effective still.

What Happened to the "2 New SPL Orgs Announced Every Week"?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 08:50 AM PST

Title. There are still 4 more SPL teams (2 NA, 2 EU) that need to be announced.

u/HiRezTodd's response:

The structure of this year's Smite Pro League is such that Hi-Rez requires fairly involved contracts with each organization prior to that team officially joining the league --as just one specific example of many, participating SPL teams must now legally agree to pay players a minimum salary.

We are unable to announce the teams prior to these contracts being signed, which typically requires some legal back and forth between all parties. We are working to complete that as soon as we can. We apologize for the delay but it should ultimately benefit orgs, players, and league to have all the those details finalized before announcing the additional teams.

CONSOLE - Season 5 - 6th Feb 9AM EST

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 09:15 AM PST

HiRez, you have the chance to make this game one of the greats. Don't mess it up with greed.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:42 AM PST

I was going to make a hype post about S5 on consoles tomorrow (hopefully), but then I saw these two posts on the frontpage and decided to post about that instead.

We've seen a lot of games getting run into the ground, recycled and losing players due to greedy systems, microtransactions and shitty consumer milking recently (BF2, Destiny 2, etc.).

I understand that Smite is a F2P game and that in this case, its fine to offer microtransactions. I've personally never bought a lootbox in a paid game, but have spend around $50-60 on Smite. I think thats fair.

But please, HiRez, its much more important to please your fans and to get them to stick around, than to sell them shit.

I realize this post won't have any influence on that, and I can't tell you what to do with your game - hell, if someone from HiRez reads this, he probably won't be in a position to change things in his company to begin with.

But I just want to say that nurturing a large, healthy, happy fanbase is much more valuable than milking a small-medium sized fanbase.

Cluttering your launcher with BUY BUY BUY, selling lots of skins exclusively through random casino-slot crates, stuff like this. It turns people off your game.

Would you rather have $100 from 5000 players, or $30 from 25000 players?

Thank you.

The Plat Perspective - Episode 2: "Make Me a Midlaner" Featuring Aggro and Hurriwind! -- Feedback Requested!

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 01:36 PM PST

Hey everyone!

Wanted to let everyone know that the 2nd episode of The Plat Perspective is now available on Youtube for VOD review. I want to first start by thanking Aggro and Hurri for their time, and a HUGE thank you to all the folks in the community / HiRez that Retweeted and gave us the signal boost. We carried an average of 200 viewers and had some fantastic questions from the audience. It's great to see all the positive and constructive feedback and is good validation that the information we're providing is relevant and useful.

In this episode we discussed the evolution of the midlane in Season 5 and how best to get started in the role for new players. I tried to take some of the feedback from the first episode and adjust the current one. Here are some of the most notable changes:

  • Addition of Media -- As someone said last week, It's really just talking heads if we only talk about the game. Better served as a podcast if we don't elevate and add more media. For this episode I brought up the Map (Disastrously... more on that later) and created a video on the differences in clear between the different starter items.

  • Individual role focus -- the first episode was GREAT but we only scratched the surface of the Jungle and Support roles. They will be getting their own in-depth issues in the future.

  • Split time between guests -- Fixed this for Ep. 2

  • Smaller Chatbox -- Took up too much space, not totally valuable.

  • Display Question on Screen -- For those joining in the middle of the episode and or clicking around the video, you can easily see what we're talking about now on display in the bottom right hand corner.

  • More even Mic levels-- This was an issue episode 1 and has been fixed.

For all the improvements, there were some technical challenges due to some timing issues and time I had with the content:

  • Mouse on screen -- It's a bad habit, and I keep forgetting you guys can see it. Will fix this in later episodes.

  • No Wards / Mouse on the map -- I had like 25 minutes with the actual map image before the show and had to tackle other technical difficulties (adding the questions, shrinking the chatbox) before fixing this one. In the future I will get warding feedback in advance and create the overlays in advance so it makes sense. I wanted to have a separate scene entirely with the image, but had to throw it up in advance.

  • Rough scene changes / shifts: This again was down to limited time with my media beforehand. I'm having issues with OBS and Window Capture, so I haven't had a great way to scene transition between the guys on Discord and the media I wanted to show. Will try to fix this for next week.

With that, here's the link to the VOD! Please PLEASE leave your feedback of what we can do better. If you enjoyed Hurri and Aggro, drop them a follow at:

Next Week's Episode: "This... Is... SOLO!!!!"

Keep an eye out on Reddit for the official thread (in 72 hours when I'm allowed to post again) asking for questions and things you want to learn from our guests. This week we'll have the man, myth and legend FineOkay alongside longtime SMITE player, Champion Solo Laner, great friend of mine and current HiRez Caster -- Anatoliy. The show will LIKELY be on Sunday... I'm traveling this week, we just got a puppy, and my parents are in town this weekend!

About The Plat Perspective:

I started streaming (and eventually The Plat Perspective) after observing the struggle for new players when it comes to learning SMITE. It's a highly complex game and the ingame resources are insufficient for giving your average new player a place to start and learn-- I've always tried to view my content as "Average play for the Average Player" The objective of the show is simple -- no SPL talk, no Diamond-level strats and team comps, only information that is relevant to the newest and least experienced players. Basically -- All of the base level information we wish someone told us when we started playing! The Plat Perspective is a way to formalize that info and get the opinions of the best the game has to offer to help you all get a little bit better at Conquest!

Thanks again everyone for your continued support.

Why can't Duel be given the same spawn treatment as conquest?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 03:44 PM PST

So, eight matches into season 5, and only two them have had both players spawn in at once. If it's not me spawning in 2 minutes and three levels behind, it's the opponent. Why does it not wait for both players to be in, and why do I only consistently have this problem with duel?

Can match replays be easier to get please?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:45 AM PST

I feel like match replays are hard to get since you need to have someone spectating the match for it to be recorded. I know that its not possible to record every single match for every single player on Hi-rez servers so why not give us the option to download a replay of the match after the match finishes. A lot of competitive games have this option so i think it is at least possible to make it happen. In my opinion making match replays easier to get a hold of can help players learn from their mistakes and get better or making it easier for content creators to post funny or epic moments. At least make that option available in ranked only if its too hard to implement.

Is in such a terrible state and I believe season 5 is going to make things worst, the lag/not able to call your role/VGS not working etc it's been like this for 2 weeks now.
