| Posted: 18 Apr 2017 10:49 PM PDT Above all other changes ever made to Crucible since September 9, 2014, this has made Crucible the least fun. I've played 15-20 doubles matches so far and literally ALL BUT ONE have been icebreakers being used as primaries. THIS IS FUCKING INSANE. This isn't any fun whatsoever. I want to use my primaries, not icebreaker or sidearm. INCENTIVIZE PRIMARY PLAY. DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT BY REMOVING SPECIALS AFTER YOU ADD AN AUTO-REGENERATING SNIPER RIFLE. WHERE WAS THE FORETHOUGHT?! Edit: Look folks, I suppose I should clarify my position on the matter: After thorough introspection, I've concluded that I don't necessarily have an issue with the economy change. It realize that there are pretty much only three ways to incentivize primary play- Nerf specials (no thanks), buff primaries (seems nice in theory but then you end up with the same issue we had with thorn, vanilla Autos and TTK hawksaw/grasp pulses), and change the special ammo economy. That said, when you make a change like that, you have to go full force with it and you can't allow there to be weapons that aren't effected by the change, that are capable of getting two kills with one mag (sidearms) or instakills with firefly for bonus damage against other players. (Icebreaker headshots, and body shots but those are two shots and I can combat that.) Now, there are a lot of you who have said roughly the same thing: "It sounds like you don't necessarily have an issue with the economy change, just the weapons that circumvent that." Thanks to some of the more logically written, and well formatted comments saying that, it sparked my introspection and allowed me to come to that conclusion. So thank you all. The next paragraph is related. There are many of you also saying, "Well I, for one, thoroughly enjoy the special ammo change because it means that I don't get shotgunned constantly anymore!" To which I reply: "It sounds like you had an issue with the way high impact, high range OHOK shotguns were in the Crucible, not special weapons as a whole." Notice that up until this last patch, and since VoG HM first dropped, there hasn't really been any posts that discuss the overuse/overpowered nature/annoyance of fusions/sidearms that gained traction? Why do you think that is? It's because there wasn't an issue with them when you could combat them with primaries or another special weapon! Now, where does that leave us with shotguns and snipers? Obviously in a competitive PvP atmosphere, players will gravitate to the best weapons to use. And more often than not, in these areas of gameplay, shotguns and snipers sit pretty. I felt like snipers were in a good place, but could have been in a better place if the increased zoom wasn't added, and instead had the flinching abilities of all weapons buffed. If I get the first shot off with my primary on a sniper, 9/10 I should win that engagement if they don't switch weapons. Now I realize that occasionally miracles happen and my flinch throws your aim up to my head right as you pull the trigger, etc etc, but currently, Icebreaker doesn't work like that, and it's coincidentally the only sniper in the game thAT CIRCUMVENTS THE GODDAMN SPECIAL AMMO ECONOMY! To finish my edit up, I would like to reiterate and repeat my reiterated position on the matter: I understand, and have come to agree with the decision Bungie made to the economy. I do. But I think it was poorly implemented and not well thought out, which is why icebreaker and sidearms have been basically a necessity in any form of competitive mode. I hope that they don't need them though, just because they've been forced into use. My main issue is with the way Icebreaker and sidearms are used. I miss being able to use my fusion rifles and shotguns. It's boring having only primaries. And I'm sure as fuck not going to stoop their sweaty levels and use icebreaker. But I get why the decision was made. [link] [comments] |
| I can now sympathize with the "Must have X requirements" LFGers Posted: 19 Apr 2017 06:22 AM PDT Yesterday I hopped on r/fireteams and LFG to find a group for WotM, since I need dem ornaments. I found people on LFG first, and it was a group of 5 people needing a 6th. The post said "Chill guys. Some of us haven't done the challenge modes before." I think "Ok, shouldn't be too bad, the raid is easy enough and the challenge modes aren't super complicated. If only a couple of them haven't run them before, it should be fine." I load up into the fireteam, rocking my Burning Eye/Ex Machina/Dark Drinker. I switch to OP and a legendary heavy since I prefer that for the opening encounter. As soon as I get in, I hear "Hey, does Cat have the Warpath?" I'm like "Yeah, why?" "We're trying the Warpath strat." Apparently there's a whole strategy dedicated to using the Warpath now? News to me. All I could think of is "Great, some kids who've never run this before are on the bandwagon for a random new strategy that was JUST discovered." Warpath isn't even good until Aksis, so the fact that they wanted it equipped NOW should have tipped me off. We load in to the raid, have no problems in the opening encounter. One guy apparently can't do the "jumping puzzle" to save his life, which was another red flag. We make it to Vosik, and this is when all hell breaks loose. This team never made it past the 1st damage phase. Either someone died to adds, no one shot monitors, people couldn't clear their waves, or someone missed the toss in the clean room. We had 2-3 Warlocks and all of their strategies were "jump off after DPS phase so we can self-res. No need for a clean room." People were using Warpath on him. One dude killed himself by shooting it when a bubble went up. The WoL bubble never went up until halfway through DPSing him. Pretty much every run ended in someone died to adds, so we had to wipe. I had to quit after 12+ tries of not even getting to the 2nd damage phase. I can now totally sympathize with all the super specific and restrictive LFG posts. This raid is NOT hard. I spent another good 2 hours in another group trying to do the Aksis challenge because no one could be bothered to stand where they needed to be. WotM is one of the easiest raids out there, just don't be stupid and have a little intuition. I've never had a terrible LFG experience before, but I can say with confidence that I'm going to be much more selective from now on. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 19 Apr 2017 11:10 AM PDT I often see folks complaining about LFG groups. A lot of those complaints center around folks who are looking for a group or looking for more who are not honest about their raid experience. As someone who regularly posts on lfg.net with strict experience requirements (I simply don't have the time to teach), I will tell you that destinystatus.com is a lifesaver. Simply plug in a gamertag, and you can see the raid completions, by character, inclusive of hard mode (even new 390 mode), and verify their experience after they send you that ever-ominous message "tons of xp. inv." And no, I don't operate the site, or have anything to do with it. I just appreciate its ability to tell me what I need to know when I don't have my laptop nearby to use the Discord bot to divulge someone's raid completion history. EDIT: Once you've entered the gamertag and their page has pulled up, click on "Checklist" to see the raid completions per character. [link] [comments] |

| During a raid please just say your struggling Posted: 19 Apr 2017 02:49 AM PDT Yesterday I had a hugely frustrating run on WOTM, at axis phase 2 we consistently struggled with slams and keeping our fire team alive due to people being unsure of where to be stood or rushing out while there was still to many adds around. This would not be so bad but when I asked if anyone was struggling everyone insisted that they knew what they were doing for a solid hour getting no where we decided to leave it for the night. After we all head back to the tower it becomes apparent that people in our fireteams were unsure of mechanics due to the conversation we had. If you just say your unsure people will be patient and help and if they won't then there Dicks and fuck them. Be honest if you are having trouble people will help I would rather spend 40 mins running through mechanics and helping you than 1 hour getting no where because you are unsure. Rant over :-) [link] [comments] |

| You can survive being stuck by a Fusion/Flux/Magnetic grenade by using Blink Posted: 19 Apr 2017 06:11 AM PDT Not sure how many people know about this, so here's how to do it. NOTE: the timing is super important (vid linked @ appropriate time). Too early and you die after coming out of the blink animation, too late and you die before hitting the 'sweet spot', so to say. This works on all sticky nades in PvP. You just have to work on the timing. Figured this might be helpful info to some, due to how strong fusion nades/etc are in the current meta. [link] [comments] |
| Massive Breakdown of Wrath of the Machine Raid Weapons Posted: 19 Apr 2017 04:52 AM PDT
Several things to note:
Scout RifleHigh-Impact CHAOS DOGMA~ - Arc Adept
Recommended Perks:
Although on paper this gun doesn't look great, in reality it's a beast. A member of the high-impact scout rifle archetype, think of this weapon as a Cocytus on steroids (which is exactly what it is, if by steroids you mean SIVA). Boasting a host of impact increasing barrel perks, you're going to be doing maximum damage per shot, and Triple Tap and Triple Double are going to help to make sure you're shooting for as long as possible. I think Smallbore is a fine choice in the middle tree in PvP, because boosts to stability and range will outweigh the drawback of losing a couple rounds, especially when you'll get those back the first time you activate the signature perks, while for PvE I'd go with Extended Mag. Triple Double pulls a second round from your reserves every time Triple Tap procs, so if you play your cards right, you can go a very long time without reloading. These perks have fantastic synergy with the purpose of the weapon as a DPS machine for boss fights, and that utility more than makes up for its overall lack of outstanding stats. One of the best things about this weapon is the ability to kill in 2 headshots and 1 body shot, or 4 body shots, in PvP, thanks to the barrel perks that increase impact just enough. That makes it significantly more forgiving than guns in the archetype normally are, and allows this weapon to be considered top tier, in my book. Auto RifleHigh-Impact GENESIS CHAIN~ - Solar Adept
Recommended Perks:
Another raid weapon with its perks aimed with laser precision at PvE, the GENESIS CHAIN~ is begging to be used as a minion clean-up machine. Focus Fire can combine perfectly with High Caliber Rounds to keep low level enemies flinching, or Hammer Forged can help you put a little extra space between yourself and your victims. Focused Firefly is actually a hilarious perk, allowing Firefly to activate as long as Focus Fire is running. This weapon joins the very small group of fully automatic guns that have Firefly, so I think it deserves a special, if not necessarily competitive place, in late game PvE. Somewhat surprisingly, this weapon is actually very good in PvP too, at least for an AR. The version of Focus Fire is has is slightly different than other ARs, so it boosts the damage a bit less, but also doesn't slow down the RoF as much. Thanks to this, it ends up with a very fast 0.83s optimal TtK, which makes it the only high impact AR I feel like is worth using. Pulse RifleMid-Impact STEEL MEDULLA~ - Void Adept
Recommended Perks:
Coming from arguably one of the best PvE pulse rifle archetypes in the game, I the Steel Medulla solidly competes with No Time To Explain for the best DPS pulse rifle against bosses. Smooth Ballistics helps to boost it's only low base stat, aim assist, and Full Auto makes sure your RoF is always maximized. Hand-laid Stock, although it will decrease a bit of range, will keep those burst patterns tight, which is perfect because the signature perk gives you increased damage on your fourth burst, as long as your first three hit the target. High recoil direction means that the burst pattern is easy to control, and high mag size and reload speed keeps the damage flowing. Hand CannonMid-Impact FEVER AND REMEDY~ - Solar Adept
Recommended Perks:
Here we come to a weapon that is something of an enigma. Reactive Reload is generally considered more useful in PvP, and the fact that it comes with a barrel perk that boosts range and the choice of either Hammer Forged or Reinforced Barrel seems to cement the idea that this gun was designed with the Crucible in mind, despite being a raid weapon. Accurized Ballistics will take away some aim assist, but it will increase the impact and range enough to be very noticeable, especially with how drastic the damage drop off on HCs can be. Reactive Reload is fantastic for stringing kills together, and the signature perk increases your agility when it's active, making it easier than ever to find your next target. Hammer Forged is in competition with Reinforced Barrel in the third slot, and you'll have to decide if pushing out the damage drop off is worth the stability penalty. The recoil direction and aim assist aren't the best for a hand cannon, but they're nowhere near as low as the Eyasluna, and the high base range and stability more than make up for it. All in all, I think this gun is to use in casual PvP, but not seriously competitive with the limited perk selection. In PvE it loses out pretty easily to Fatebring and other weapons that can roll with explosive perks. Sniper RifleVery-High Impact EX MACHINA~
Recommended Perks:
Previously an extremely rare archetype of sniper rifles, Rise of Iron brought us three new examples of the very-high impact variety. EX MACHINA may not have fantastic base stats, but the combination of Spray and Pray and Wait for It (which gives you a larger magazine if you reload when empty) may make it a tremendous weapon for doing maximum damage to bosses. If you don't want to blow an Exotic slot on Black Spindle, and you haven't been lucky enough to get a Casket Mag/Triple Tap sniper from the Gunsmith or drops, then this is probably your best choice. Linear Compensator will give a nice bit of bonus damage to each shot, and Quickdraw and Injection Mold can both help with the rather slow handling speeds of the weapon. ShotgunVery-High Impact QUANTIPLASM~
Recommended Perks:
A member of the much sought-after Matador class of shotguns, the QUANTIPLASM~ by default should be one of the best options for shotguns in the game. Unfortunately, with the limited perks, the maximum range is below average, and the perks would probably be more appropriate on a faster RoF model of shotgun. That said, a run-n-gun playstyle could work well with this weapon in PvE, if you're careful, but the slow RoF can be a detriment to engaging multiple enemies in quick succession. Thankfully the special perk of Running Interference, which grants bonus armor when Battle Runner is active, can definitely help you to survive a little longer when charging down your next opponent. Linear Compensator will give you a good boost of range and impact, and Smallbore will help you hit it's maximum range, but you won't be competing with well-rolled Matador or Party Crashers anytime soon in PvP. Fusion RifleLow-Impact (70-79) ETHER NOVA~
Recommended Perks:
Stuck in an archetype that's basically been an afterthought for fusion rifle users, the ETHER NOVA~ is a very fast charging, high range, fusion rifle that takes a skilled hand to wield. Although it doesn't do enough damage to be good at more than add clean-up in PvE, in close range Crucible battles it can dominate, provided you have the ammo. Needing six bolts to kill is a major drawback, however, so anything outside of optimal range is likely going to be a losing engagement. Linear Compensator will help to make the recoil more vertical, which makes tightening the bolt spread easier for any player. Army of One and Two for One (doubles the effectiveness of AoO) will help the lone wolf player get their melee and grenades back as quickly as possible, which harmonizes with the need to be up close and personal with this weapon. I would choose Braced Frame in the middle column, simply because the range is already quite high, and the stability is average, but for those who want the best of both worlds Smallbore is also a choice. SidearmHigh-RoF ZEAL VECTOR~
Recommended Perks:
When I originally reviewed the ZEAL VECTOR~, I was not impressed. Stats wise, it's lacking in almost every necessary area. Range, stability, and aim assist are all poor. With that being said, it does have one thing that not many other sidearms do: The ability to decrease its times-to-kill with an impact increasing barrel perk. If you use Accurized Ballistics, you can actually drop the optimal TtK down to 0.50s (4 crits) and the body TtK down to 0.67s (5 body shots). Both of those are top of the line, and makes this gun much more attractive than I found it to be previously. As far as perks, Reactive Reload and Quick Reaction are an interesting combination, giving you boosts to booth damage and agility when you reload after a kill. In reality, they're pretty niche bonuses, but players who use them correctly will definitely be rewarded. Due to the very low base range, I would stick with Hand Loaded in the middle column, but I know some players love Quickdraw, which is also an option. Overall, I find the perks to be slightly lackluster. Even with the barrel mod increasing impact enough to bring down the TtK, I'm just not seeing this gun as being top-tier for sidearms, especially with god-rolled Wormwoods around every corner. Rocket LauncherMid-RoF SOUND AND FURY~
Recommended Perks:
If you're okay without Grenades and Horseshoes, Clusterbomb, or Tracking, then this may be an good launcher for you. The lack of those perks may turn off quite a few people, but the combination of Spray and Pray and Wait for It means you can easily be getting an extra rocket every magazine. Javelin boosts the already high velocity, and the only real drawback stat-wise is the below average blast radius. You could still do worse, however, and the high inventory level means you won't be struggling to carry as many rockets as you need. If you're someone who values quantity of rockets above all else, you might have found your match here. I mostly suggest using this launcher against ADDs or non-mobile bosses. Machine GunVery Low-Impact - Barrel Perks which increase impact have no effect on TtK, but Soft Ballistics can increase the crit TtK to 0.53s (9 crit shots) and the body TtK to 0.67s (11 body shots). IF MATERIA~
Recommended Perks:
Simultaneously one of the most entertaining and infuriating archetypes of machine guns, the lowest-impact subclass combines the love of mowing down dozens of enemies at a time with the recoil equivalent of riding a bull. After receiving a small buff a few patches back, these weapons were still feeling a bit unloved, at least until IF MATERIA~ came along. Linear Compensator makes the recoil almost completely vertical, and Braced Frame helps to keep it under control. Normally Braced Frame would be a drawback on a machine gun, but a high reload speed and interesting perk set guarantees you won't notice it at all. Triple Tap and Triple Double wouldn't be something you would expect to see on a high-RoF weapon, but the MATERIA shoots so fast you're bound to get three quick headshots almost every time you point it at a target and pull the trigger. Since you get two bullets back into the mag every time is activates, think of this weapon as a poor man's Super Good Advice (that's actually better), without it needing the exotic slot. Although it may not be the best in PvP, it absolutely shreds in PvE! [link] [comments] |
| One thing I would love to see before the end of D1 is a full history of every drop I've received. Posted: 19 Apr 2017 05:57 AM PDT (Suggestion) In this age of big data I think it would be a nice capstone for D1 to be able to see full stats (from Bungie) on everything I've ever received during D1. How many Party Crashers? How many exotic engrams? How much glimmer did I earn? Please Bungie, make this happen. Edit - front page!! Hi Mom. RIP inbox [link] [comments] |
| Use your damn cannons on aksis Posted: 19 Apr 2017 09:44 AM PDT I don't care what heavy weapon you use for aksis (as long as you don't kill yourself rocket launcher users), just USE YOUR DAMN CANNONS!!! Each shot from the cannon does over 100k damage (close to 200k with tether/ignite/everything else). If you're dropping your cannon to use your heavy weapon you're doing something wrong. There were a number of times last night when we wiped and I had done 2 million+ damage to Aksis in ONE damage phase simply because I was picking up people's cannons and firing them after they left them on the ground. If I ever see any cannons on the ground at the end of a damage phase my fireteam is getting a stern talking to. /rant [link] [comments] |

Plan on making Dead orbit, a raid emblem, and iron banner this weekend. Also am going to make some for our clan with our logo and gamer tag on the sleeve. Edit: I do plan on talking to Bungie about opening a Destiny store. I'm just a pharmacist by day and Hunter by night who loves all things Destiny. If I could provide a Destiny product to you guys, that would be the icing on the cake. [link] [comments] |
| Armsday Rolls, week 85 [2017-04-19] Posted: 19 Apr 2017 05:23 AM PDT Welcome to Armsday, week 85. This post is a compilation of all the weapon rolls. I want to hear what you think are the best choices, post in the comments. Here's a list of the available rolls this week. If you ordered ones I didn't please post the rolls in the comments and I'll add them. Useful Links:
New to Armsday? For those new to Armsday, here's the basics: Each week you can order a number of weapons from the gunsmith, equal to your gunsmith rank, up to a max of 3. You can rank up by doing the weekly weapon tests. On the Wednesday following your order, you get to choose from a number of rolls (combinations of perks) on each of the weapons you ordered. Again, this number is equal to your gunsmith rank, up to a max of 3 possible choices. If you choose not to turn in your weapon order for a roll, you can hold onto the order and you will get access to 3 new rolls every week (until you claim the weapon). The orders never expire but do take up inventory space, and do count towards your max number of orders. At any given time the max number of orders you can have in your inventory is 3 per character. Below are the rolls available to those who ordered these weapons last week. | There are still good guardians out there. The quick story of a great LFG group. Posted: 19 Apr 2017 09:04 AM PDT I wanted to finish my book actual 100% last night as well as get a couple of the exotic primaries. Most of my friends don't play anymore and the few raid friends I've made were all in groups. So I hopped onto LFG and joined a group pretty quick. 3 hunters and 3 warlocks. Nobody even cared that we didn't have a titan. We were ready to knock this thing out. Everyone was really relaxed, polite, and ready to roll. I figured it probably wouldn't stay that way, but at least we could start off smooth. We got to Vosik part 2 no stress. One guy admitted during the fight he'd never done challenge on this one, but he was playing like a champ and knew how it all needed to work. Asked a couple little questions for clarification, and he was good to go. Wiped 2 times at the beginning due to the door switch not triggering, then cleaned Vosik up no problem. At Death Jabroni one dude asked if it was ok if he took a quick smoke break and none of us minded. We decided to try and run it 5 man while he was gone, because why not? One person died at the beginning and we pulled it off 4 man with no problems. Aksis phase 1 had zero setup and we did it first time. Phase 2 we had an accidental wipe, and 1 more with a whiffed Aksis slam. The guy who hadn't done Vosik challenge was a little unsure about the supercharge mechanic and asked a few more questions. He listened well, adjusted his positioning appropriately, and we got right back into the fight. We killed Aksis on that 3rd try and flew off in our separate ways after snagging sweet, sweet loots. Before I left the party, 2 other people admitted they had never done Aksis challenge before either. I appreciated this group more than almost any other group I've joined. The guy that had questions asked them right away, listened attentively, and adjusted to ensure he didn't mess up again. Everyone was nice to each other and relaxed all the way through. The other guys that hadn't done challenge before knew the mechanics and exactly what to do beforehand. Best of luck to all the LFG'ers out there! May your groups kill that spider legged jerk with ease! [link] [comments] |
| IF you have Aksis Low. Just worry about the challenge. Posted: 18 Apr 2017 08:05 PM PDT Remember you have to get the super charge with the slam every teleport or it is a failure. Asked my team not to shoot him when he was low before we got the slams in they continued. He teleported mid then straight to last stand siva mode. We ended up completing our weekly raid and got the ornament as they were rubbing it in my face that I was wrong, I asked them what exotic primary they got followed by a long silence. So my aggravation has become a good lesson and friendly reminder on here. Edit: To clarify my meaning a little if Aksis is low enough to go into last stand. Don't risk shooting him until after he has been slammed or play it super safe and wait till third slam damage phase. [link] [comments] |

I tested raw/dry damage without any weapons or tether. My weapon combos are mainly hypothetical numbers that I also tried in-game. | Rezyl Azzir, The legacy of a disgraced Titan. Posted: 19 Apr 2017 02:25 AM PDT Before These WallsRezyl Azzir was a man. In time his kind would be called Titan. Mountains of muscle and might and metal. His collar was fur and teeth. His person clad in ornate, golden-etched plating, trophies upon his shoulders. This was before the City was The City. This is before the walls. Still in the shadow of the fragile giant above, but before. Salvation seekers came — survivors; weary remnants of a people on the brink. These were the days before reason took hold. Before study was merged with belief. The giant was looked to as one would a God. Maybe it still is. Factions grew from the huddled masses. Like minds coming together to provide support, comfort. Over time these loyalties demanded loyalty. Differences that used to inform — viewpoints that when joined granted a larger understanding of the whole — became points of conflict. The sanctuary became divided. The shadow of Light grew darker. This, humanity's last oasis, slowly fading to a mirage. Great, powerful men and women, The Risen, stood at the Factions' sides. Protection. Enforcers. Misused possibility. Misery crept into this false paradise. Yet hope lingered. Seeing the cracks in this society born beneath the giant's fractured shell, some among The Risen challenged the dissolution of all that could be. They would no longer serve as instruments of oppression. They would be more. Thus began an unnecessary war made necessary by greed, ambition... fear. And, in the chaos of this struggle, came the scavengers — aliens with appetites. A common enemy. In the end, the scavengers were repelled and the Factions fell, their grip broken, though their beliefs remained. This was the earliest days of the Guardians, when might found purpose. Prosperity was in reach. Rezyl had been a champion of these wars. A leader. Against the alien pirates he had been more. If the giant wasn't a God, then maybe Rezyl was. As the first walls formed — built of hard work and sacrifice — Rezyl and the Guardians stood against the alien plunderers time and again. More survivors arrived. More warriors. The Guardian ranks swelled. The City grew. Hope blossomed. To Rezyl it was a currency. Hope bought tomorrow. Tomorrow bought the effort needed to survive today. Yet Rezyl grew weary. Stories haunted his nights. Old stories. Those no longer told. Those locked behind tight lips for fear of what they may invoke. Whenever the sun dropped below the horizon and the moon rose high, Rezyl's thoughts wandered. How safe was safe? How long could they fight with the Darkness still writhing? So, every day Rezyl would fight and build and protect. And every day a city grew beneath the giant. And every night he would think about all that was never said and stare intently at the moon above. War Without End— Eksori's Ambush — His foot pressed hard to the sun-cracked ground. Beneath it the Vandal's neck gave; a hiss of ether burst free before dissipating. Rezyl turned. Three Dregs charged. Their Captain raised his shock blade high, unleashing a battle cry to fuel their courage. Focused fire spit from the muzzle of Rezyl's full-auto. The Dregs fell.To the Captain, Rezyl was a trophy that would buy unmatched respect among his Devil brothers. To Rezyl, the Captain was already an afterthought. As ether leaked from the pirate's broken body with each blow of Rezyl's heavy fists, Rezyl's attention had shifted to the unknown, but inevitable, battles to follow. This was the state of things; conflict as common as breath. — The Tescan Valley Encounter — A Ketch with unfamiliar markings hung low between two peaks. A rare sight. Fallen flagships weren't known to linger so close to the surface, preferring constant motion, like sharks on the hunt. Skiffs circled below the Ketch as their crews prepared to plunder any treasures the facility held. Rezyl leveled his rocket launcher. A digital ping signaled a lock, and a trail of smoke shot toward the lead Skiff. Two more rockets followed in rapid succession. The lead Skiff took two hits, lurched and retreated back toward the Ketch above. The third rocket caught a trailing Skiff as the craft turned to engage its attackers. Rezyl looked back. "Go." "You can't take a Ketch alone," Hassa laughed. "The ship isn't my target," Rezyl had a plan. Hassa hated Rezyl's plans with equal parts envy and concern. "Lead the Skiffs away," he continued. "We'll meet— " "Can't meet if you're dead," Tover shot back. Rezyl smiled beneath his helm, "Go." Hassa and Tover throttled their Sparrows and disappeared into the heavy woods. Rezyl watched from cover as the Skiffs gave chase. The Fallen below had taken defensive positions. The rocket attack caught them off guard but they were ready now, and there were more of them than he had time to count. Rezyl raced down the slope, weaving between the thick growth of brush and pine, on a direct path for the Fallen clustered at the mountain's base, his Ghost at his side. "I need you to hang back." "Uhhh...""Trust me." "Always have." "How quick can you light my spark?" "You expect to die? Can't say that's the best— " "How quick?" "Quick." "Be ready." "For?" "You'll know." Rezyl's Ghost slowed as the Guardian hit the valley floor. The Fallen opened fire. Rezyl leapt from his Sparrow as it transmatted away, his rifle spraying lead at the entrenched pirates. The Fallen's Arc bolts peppered Rezyl. Eager Dregs rushed and were met with death as Rezyl marched forward. A massive blast cratered the ground a few feet from the Titan. The Ketch had turned its guns on Rezyl. Another blast impacted to Rezyl's left and he stumbled. A third exploded directly in his path...and Rezyl fell. From the treeline, his Ghost watched as the Fallen celebrated and a Skiff drifted down from the Ketch above. The circle around Rezyl's body parted and the imposing figure of their Kell stepped forward to admire his prize. The chittering excitement quieted to a steady drone as the Kell lifted Rezyl's limp body by the neck. A chorus rose among the crew, growing louder as the Kell hefted Rezyl over his head for all to see. Rezyl's Ghost darted low through the crowd. He didn't like Rezyl's plan, but now he understood it. Distracted by their Kell's triumph, the Ghost's presence went unnoticed until a beam of light swept over Rezyl's body. The mood shifted instantly, cheers turning to ravenous shouts. The Kell's gaze fell to the Ghost as the beam faded. The circle began to collapse — the Fallen set to pounce. As the Kell moved to toss Rezyl aside, cold steel met the underside of the alien marauder's jaw, followed by a red flash as Rezyl pulled his cannon's trigger. Ether spewed in an angry geyser and the Kell's grip loosened. Rezyl hit the ground and unloaded five more rounds into the Fallen leader's torso. The monster dropped. Frenzied, the Kell's crew closed in like a flood. Rezyl's Ghost lifted above the fray, frantic, "Now! Now! Now!" In one motion, Rezyl rose from a crouch, his fists clenched and raised high as a storm of Arc Light built within him, his full might raining down on the Kell's chest. The shockwave of Rezyl's attack hit like a meteor, shattering the Kell's body and any Fallen within the Havoc storm's radius. The remaining Fallen staggered, knocked back and dazed. Rezyl triggered his Sparrow. His Ghost flew to his side, "We leaving?" "Before that Ketch opens up on us." Rezyl punched the throttle as the Fallen crew opened fire. "Let's never do that again," his Ghost pleaded. Rezyl didn't have to reply. If war was a constant, "never" was just an illusion. — In Defense of North Channel — Winds from the south caught the smoke and began to clear the thick air. Slowly, the citizens of the small, snow-covered settlement came out from their hiding places. Rezyl surveyed their faces — each weary, but flecked with hope. Living in the wilds was all they had known. Surviving. Fighting. Hiding. These people had heard stories of a safer place, but tales of a better life were so rarely true. Rezyl and his companions had been tracking these Fallen for weeks. Had they caught them sooner this town would have been spared. That any survivors climbed from the rubble to see another day marked this as a victory, but Rezyl was growing tired of small wins, however meaningful. That evening, Rezyl and the others led a gathering of survivors on the long journey to the growing city beneath the Traveler. Some settlers remained behind, choosing to stake their claim in the untamed wilds. Rezyl admired their resolve, but never looked back. He knew whatever death these brave pioneers avoided that day would come to them... someday... in one form or another. The Whisper and the BoneSomething in Rezyl was telling him he shouldn't be here. Something deep. Something resembling fear. He knelt, examining the dust-covered pile at his feet. The skulls had been discarded with little care some time ago – decades, maybe longer. The doors carved into the rock face were arcane – dark, gothic... other... and large. The jagged finery of their archway spoke to an artistry that only served to strengthen the sinking feeling in his gut. Rezyl had come to Luna in search of nightmares, and after his long journey—from the growing City beneath the Traveler to the ends of the Earth and beyond—he found himself face-to-face with the remnants of stories he'd hoped were nothing but lies. He stood, a large man made small against the massive, looming doorway. The knot in his stomach was telling him to turn back. Instead, he moved forward, toward the doors; sealed, as they were, for ages untold. After only a few steps, a shrill, heavy scraping cut the air. The massive doors were opening. Rezyl steadied his rifle as a lone shape, floating just above the ground, appeared from the deep black beyond the threshold. The figure in the doorway—a dark, ethereal woman cloaked in tattered ceremony and armored with ornate bone—danced in the air. Rezyl and the demon woman held their ground, contemplating one another. With no warning the silent intimacy of the moment was broken by a booming, angry call from deep within the doorway. The sound, thick and pained, echoed across the narrow valley then fell silent. After a beat that felt like eternity, the figure backed away into the dark. The doors remained wide – an invitation or a dare, Rezyl did not know. Nor did he care. The mighty Titan took steps forward. "Uhhhh... I'm not sure this is a good idea," his Ghost's concern was impossible to mistake. "Not sure that matters." "We've come. We've seen. Maybe the best course here is to warn others. Gather an army." "Maybe." "I'm just saying... It's possible you can't handle whatever it is we've upset here." "We've woken nightmares." Rezyl's attention was singular; focused intently on the dark beyond the threshold. "The Hive were supposed to be gone." The Ghost mulled the full consequence of this mistaken belief. "They've been silent for—" "They're not silent anymore." "That scream? These doors? They're best left alone." "I can't do that." Rezyl continued forward. Toward the dark. Toward the unknown. "Stay here." "Excuse me?" "Get distance. We don't know what this is... what's coming. Can't risk you too close to an unknown." "And if you fall where I can't find you?" "If I fall... If I don't return. Run. Tell the others. Warn them all... There are worse things than pirates." Rezyl steadied his rifle and stepped into the dark, as his Ghost lingered. Hours passed. More? Time was lost in this place, and with it any remembrance of hope... of promise... of purpose in the longing for a brighter tomorrow. Down amongst the shadows there were no tomorrows. Down in the abyss there was no hope. Rezyl's footfalls echoed; lonely, measured steps with no guarantee of purchase. At any moment the world could fall away and he would be lost – the forgotten hero who foolishly sought nightmares. Then, a presence. Sweeping and dream-like. Rezyl leveled his rifle. He could sense the witch, but found it impossible to track her in the dark. Rezyl opened fire. Short, focused bursts to light the ebony corridor. The demon witch circled just beyond the reach of each burst's glow. Rezyl kept firing, using the short flickers of light to gain bearing. The witch laughed and a thick black cloud engulfed Rezyl. The Titan kept firing but his movements were restricted. The cloud confined him, caged him. He could hear her moving just beyond his sight as her laughter rose in pitch, cutting into Rezyl's mind and soul like a tempered blade. Rezyl flinched as the wicked woman began to speak in a tongue that resembled torture more than language. The pain was searing, complete. The demon approached the writhing hero. As she spoke her violent words began to take shape, morphing from syllables of death to a known offering of haunted human languages. The demon woman leaned in close... and whispered, intimately. Rezyl's ears bled as she spoke. "I am the end of 'morrows. Xyor, the Blessed. Xyor, the Betrothed. I am of the coming storm. These are not my words, but prophesy. Your Light will one day shatter and die. For now it simply offends... And you, dear, sweet, fragile thing, shall be made to suffer for your transgressions upon this holy ground." As the witch fell silent, her hateful voice was replaced by a growing chorus of hungry, manic chittering and the rising thunder of an approaching flood. Rezyl had come looking for the terrors that hide just beyond the light. He found them. Or, maybe...they found him. The Triumphant FallThe trigger clicked. Another empty clip slid from its purchase and dropped to the dark stone floor. It was the last. His rifle was dry. Rezyl spun the weapon in his hand, grabbing hard around the barrel, like a club. A new wave of chittering death was upon him – fragile but aggressive, overwhelming in their number and oppressive in their rage. The stock of the rifle connected with skull after skull. They caved and fell. Like the others before. The pile of vanquished nightmares—half bone, half dust—grew at Rezyl's feet. There was a calm to him. An ease. The chaos of battle was no time to panic. His swing was wide, but measured. No wasted movement. A demon clawed at his back. Then another. They were heavier than their frail frames would suggest. He gave a shrug and shake, turned and hammered the stock hard into the side of one creature's temple. Its skull splintered and the stock lodged deep in the wet, chalky mass beneath the bone. He made a fleeting effort to break the rifle free, but had to let it fall away as the rush of demons increased. Rezyl kicked the other monster to the floor, stepping on its neck while shifting to backhand a throng of attackers eager to make their killing lunge. If the rifle—his battle-worn Inferno—had served to thin the herd and buy Rezyl time to assess the whole of the situation, his Rose would see him through. It always had. The Titan, awash in the ash and gore of his enemies, pulled his cannon and in one motion feathered the trigger to level the wretched beasts closest to him. The bloom from each shot lit the cavern with flashes of red heat — a garden of angry roses blossoming in pointed defiance of this vile, hateful kingdom of shadows. On the far end of the sea of gnashing maws, the wicked woman danced in the air. Watching. Waiting? Rezyl's cannon was loaded and ready to fire as if an afterthought. He let loose another barrage and six more demons slumped, lifeless upon the pile. The witch unleashed a violent cry. And as quickly as it had begun, the onslaught subsided. The chittering fell from a deafening roar to an eerie chorus humming through the ebon haze just beyond his sight. Rezyl stood, straightened his tired back and took long, deep breaths. The storm had not been weathered. He could feel it in his gut. He stood now, not at peace, but within the eye – the swirling, terrible lull before the waves came crashing once more. The wicked woman laughed: a horrid, grating screech. Followed by footsteps. Heavy and hard. Thoom. Thoom. Thoom. Thoom. Rezyl squinted against the dark as he slid new lead into his cannon's cylinder. A shape took form, approaching from the deep. A being of might and mass that dwarfed the Titan. A cleaver the size of an ordinary man—bigger—hung effortlessly in its hand. Its body was thick with ornate bone – a living armor that was one with the beast. Rezyl let out an accepting sigh. The creature walked like a man burdened by untold sin – lumbering and slow, though its stride covered ground with unnatural ease. To Rezyl, the approaching horror cut an imposing silhouette not unlike that of an ancient, disgraced knight. Maybe it had been heroic once. Maybe here in these shadows, to the watchful eyes of the wicked woman and her rotting horde it was a hero still – only for a darker, sinister cause. The thought intrigued Rezyl. The fight he had come all this way to find, the enemy he had hoped was nothing but a legend's lie, seemed eager to greet him. He smiled beneath his helm, then spun his Rose with a confident Hunter's twirl, before steadying his aim and fanning its hammer one more. The angry bloom lit the dark. Six shots, center mass. Rezyl's lead pinged off a sudden, shimmering wall of black. The knight had conjured a protective barrier as if from nothing. Unable to comprehend the creature's arcane methods – dark magic or unimagined tech, or even a joining of the two, Rezyl didn't care. He reloaded and prepared to face the unknown. As the ethereal shield faded the beast raised its blade and let loose an aggressive, inhuman roar: Hell's own battle cry. Rezyl accepted the challenge. His Rose gripped tightly in his vice grip, the Titan charged forward. He would meet the shadow's rage head-on. Two days had passed since Rezyl stepped from the dark corridors beneath the moon, back into the light. His Ghost pressed him for details time and again. He wanted to know all he could of the wicked woman and her promise of suffering. Of the sea of mindless, chittering death. Of the hulking knight and Rezyl's epic battle. The Ghost was enthralled and deeply concerned. If the monsters below the moon were active and aware, the City must be warned. Rezyl agreed. As they watched another Earth-rise from the lonely quiet of the lunar surface and planned their long journey home, Rezyl pulled fragmented bone from the pouch that hung on his left hip: a reminder of the evil that lurked beyond the light, and the last remnants of the wicked woman's betrothed. And while he recounted once more the events of his time in the shadows he took his Rose from its holster and began grafting the bone to its steel frame, just another trophy, from another battle won. It was only later, and far too late, that the first whispers came and the bones revealed their true, jagged purpose. TL;DR: Rezyl quickly became a leader among the survivors of the Collapse who came seeking shelter under the Traveler, guiding humanity through infighting as well as against alien scavengers to create the City — and its walls. Despite the successes of the City and its Guardians, Rezyl grew frustrated at the constant battles. He is described as "growing tired of small wins, however meaningful". Rezyl traveled to the Moon where he discovered that the Hive were still active. He proceeded into the Hellmouth without his Ghost and encountered Xyor. After battling many Hive, Rezyl faced a knight covered in bone armor. After two days Rezyl emerged from the Hellmouth, bearing the bones of the knight as a trophy. While contemplating the reappearance of the Hive, Rezyl grafted the bones onto his hand cannon, Rose. The next steps of Rezyl Azzir are not clear, but the events on the Moon and the fact that Rezyl's hand cannon was named Rose suggest that he abandoned his existing identity and created a new one, Dredgen Yor. | What's your proudest achievement in Destiny 1? Posted: 19 Apr 2017 06:01 AM PDT I've been playing less than a year, and I still remember getting hyped over blue engrams. I remember working my butt off to complete Moments of Triumph (literally decided on a whim that is was just about possible to complete it all in just over a month and just made it the morning I went on holiday). Really proud of that. I'm proud that despite my reservations about PvP, Bungie persuaded me to try it out, and while I'm no god, I actually found an FPS that I don't suck at. And I'm proud that now I'm near the end of my D1 career, I try and help other people out the way I was helped as a noob. It's the little things that make this game great. When you're on patrol and you rush in to help out a player in the single level digits. Or when you point out a siva fragment or a dead ghost on a strike and get a wave. When you message someone GG after a Crucible match, and get an invite to their fireteam. I'm also really happy about the tonne of cool loot I have too, but yeah, you guys are awesome. What are your Moments of Triumph? [link] [comments] |
| Can ghostless guardians pick up ammo on the battlefield? Posted: 19 Apr 2017 05:27 AM PDT So I was watching a video where a Sunbreaker Titan ran over an ammo pack and it dissolved into thin air, just like warsats, Vex, etc.. In other words, it was being transmatted, or teleported. In guardian applications, it's the Ghost who handles the transmat-related stuff. Some notable examples are; equipping different weapons (in the inventory), getting us in and out of our ships, using ammo synths, moving warsats, and (probably) blinking. Guardians don't have to have a ghost (but they have to be revived by one, so all guardians had a ghost at one point or another), it could've been destroyed in combat like Eris' ghost was, left the guardian (I think Dredgen Yor's ghost left him, but I'm not entirely sure), or just be a complete lazy-ass and ignore everything. Since the Ghost handles picking up (dropped) ammo, does that mean some guardians have to rely on a "backpack" with some ammo and other stuff in it, and once they've used it up, there's no way to get more (without going back to the tower/other outpost)? Just a thought. See ya! [link] [comments] |
