Organize your pokemon by most recent. Go to the bottom. It's nice to see the pokemon that have been with you for a long time.

Seeing the pokemon that have been with me since July brought back a bunch of memories for me.

The game is very slow right now

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 12:13 PM PDT

Despite having fun in the current Water Festival event, the stability of the game after the most recent update (0.59.1/1.29.1) has been incredibly frustrating. Everything is very slow and feeling sluggish. From loading encountered Pokemon, to spinning pokestops, to the GPS tracker lag, to the nearby tracker disappearing quite often. It's just a mess right now and I believe most of these issues are server-side. And what's worse about these issues is that the my battery is draining even even faster now because of the lag. I don't mean to sound negative during this great event but I felt that it was so bad I had to bring it up. And I hope I'm not the only one experiencing these issues.

Niantic really needs to address the fact that gyms, one of the core features of this game, suck. A rebalance is necessary, casual players have basically abandoned the game.

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 10:41 AM PDT

Gyms have basically sucked since the second month after launch. Since then every single god damned gym is nothing but Dragonite, Gyarados, Vaporeon and Snorlax. After the rebalance, Rhydon is included, and now I'm seeing some Tyrannitars here and there. But ultimately, 99% of all gym defending Pokemon are accounted for by the top ten or so best Pokemon.

It's stupid and unfair but worst of all, it's just boring. It's so ridiculously dull to see gym after gym with the exact same loadout: 3 snorlaxes, 3 dragonites, 3 gyarados, a vaporeon or something else.

Not only that but the game is essentially "pay to win" because spoofers and hardcore players have destroyed the curve. The game seems to be designed for casual players, what with its incredibly dumbed down stat system that only shows the player a Pokemon's CP, and yet casual players are at such a severe disadvantage compared to GPS spoofers that scoop up all the dratinis and other rares all over the map without leaving their houses, and hold down 10+ gyms without walking so much as 10 feet out the door.

Not only that but I doubt very much that spoofers spend any cash at all on this game because they don't need to.

The thing is, Niantic could fix this. Rebalance the game in a way that hamstrings cheaters, makes things fun for casuals, and provides an incentive to actually put a few bucks into the game from time to time.

I personally think Niantic should:

  1. Implement a new gym rule: NO DUPLICATE POKEMON. There's already a Dragonite here? Oh well, take your Dragonite someplace else. This will make gyms battles at least more fun . . . what's the point of me having 300+ pokemon if I never get to battle 90% of them? Seriously, 9 out of 10 Pokemon I've never even attempted combat with.

  2. GET RID OF CP. Just remove it from the game. Where it is currently displayed, display the Pokemon's level (i.e. Level 30). If Niantic thinks stats are too "complicated" for casual players, have Atk, Def and Spd listed and just give them like a 1 to 5 star rating each. That combined with HP and moveset is enough to tell players which Pokemon are useful, and will encourage people to use some of the more fun and interesting mid tier Pokemon instead of just spamming the same ones forever.

  3. Gyms should gradually lose rank over time. Perhaps gyms should lose a rank every 12 hours? This will at least require spoofers to continually train their gyms and babysit them after training them up to level 10.

  4. Change the way the bonus cooldown works. Most days I don't bother with gym battles because I play solo and the best I can hope for is a paltry 10 coin bonus because by the time it takes me to walk even a couple blocks to a second gym, my gym's been flipped already. Again, the game seems designed for casual players, yet the mechanics of gyms heavily favor spoofers who play with multiple accounts or a few friends. Even if I got a group of ten friends together to drive around and take gyms, they would still flip in a matter of minutes anyways. So make it somehow that if I take 5 different gyms in the same day, I can get my bonus for each of them instead of simply getting one and then having to wait till tomorrow to get another 10 coins.

  5. Provide some kind of indoor activities for players to mess around when it's too crappy to go outside. Like training your own pokemon against each other. Maybe for every ten battles you fight your own pokemon against each other, you get one candy. Or something like that. Just give us fair players something to do indoors while the cheaters are using GPS spoofing to conquer the whole city during a blizzard.

My 2 cents. Curious as to what others think.

[Dear Niantic] If you can't get Pokemon Go+ to work right, just give us an android wear version already.

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 07:35 AM PDT

Niantic, you've already got a codebase to start off with the Ingress Android Wear app. Just re-skin it, code it to communicate with the GO+ API in your app, and make it function the exact same as the GO+. A single multipurpose button. The first version you release doesn't even have to have all the same features the Apple Watch version does. I'm Just tired of having to reboot and re-pair multiple times a day. I just want to be able to track my egg distance without the Pokemon Go app in the foreground, You've given the Apple Watch enough exclusivity. Finally solve the GO+ connectivity issues, or give us an Android Wear version of the Go+. Please Niantic.

[complaint] The faint-no faint bug needs to go

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 11:33 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before, but I'm sure everyone knows about it. While fighting in a gym, sometimes the attacker gets hit by an attack even when I dodged successfully and the 'dodged' text appears. This makes the mon faint. But the servers get updated, realize their mistake and my mon reappears on the screen but now is in a state between life and death and is invisible. He becomes omni potent and omni present. In this stage, you are not able to use any charge moves and just wait for the mon to be put out of its misery by the defender. This is especially infuriating when prestiging using a low level attacker. It sucks when you have spent your time prestiging a gym and lose those precious seconds at the end because of this.
Seriously Niantic, I like the mechanics of the game at the moment. But this needs to be given some though as well.

[Humor] When there's a rally but you really need that Slugma.

Let's talk about Ursaring (AKA The Poor Man's Machamp)

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 10:19 AM PDT

For those of you that don't have an Ursaring, get one, it's a great attacker.

I've recently been using Ursaring as my "1st Tank" counter (takes out the 1st Snorlax or Blissey in a gym). Ursaring can learn Counter + Close Combat or HyperBeam. IMO I think Counter + Close Combat is the ideal moveset, HyperBeam does a lot of damage + STAB, but takes a long time to fire, which leaves less time to dodge a charged attack (which you have to if you want to survive). I think both would work though.

Why do I love Ursaring? Well, besides the double fighting attacks it can learn (which Snorlax + Blissey are weak against), it's also a normal type!

What does that mean? No pesky Super Effective damage taken from Zen Headbutt, which Fighting types are weak to (Machamp + Heracross).

Also, Ursaring doesn't take the extra damage from the charged moves Blissey can learn that fighting types are weak to (Dazzling Gleam and Psychic).

So in conclusion, Ursaring isn't weak to any moves that Snorlax and Blissey can learn, he can learn a double fighting attack set that Normal Pokemon are weak to, and they are very easy to obtain (only 50 candies), it has a high attack stat and solid HP.

Ursaring is a great Snorlax + Blissey counter (AKA The Poor Man's Machamp).

Settings should not reset when you log out of your account

I sometimes switch to my SO's account if I see a nice pokemon and it's really rather embarrassing when the login music starts playing on full blast in a public place.

Niantic please, this would be just a minor text fix.

[Discussion] The Water Event has been Fantastic!

Posted: 28 Mar 2017 10:52 AM PDT

In my opinion, this has been the most enjoyable event in PoGo's existence for a few reasons:

1) the increased spawns were not biome-locked (but existing water biome areas seemed to get even more exotic water types (like Lapras))

2) Gyarados are unique among 'mon in that they are rare and powerful characters evolved from relatively common pokemon, so there was a real incentive to catch every single one of those (relatively common) magikarp knowing that you were saving candies for a Gary.

3) The (surprise) inclusion of shiny magikarp further incentivized magikarp hunting providing an extra incentive beyond the 400 candies needed per evolution.

I don't know if there could ever be an equivalent event for another type that would tick all those boxes so this may be the best event ever.

Just saying, it's readable now. GZ! Not sure what changed recently, but it was a salt factory in January and February. Even the GPS spoofing posts have winded down in favour of news and funny pictures!

With Earth Day happening in April are their any other days throughout the year we might be able to get an event from
