| Solo queue competitive is more luck than skill Posted: 30 Mar 2017 07:24 AM PDT So maybe this is a bit of a rant, but I feel like discussing a particular topic: solo queue in competitive mode. I've been playing Overwatch since the closed beta, and have participated actively in all competitive seasons. The vast majority of my matches have always been solo queue. Let's go over the season outcomes: Season 1:
Season 2:
Season 3:
Season 4:
In each season there's a theme: I bounce all over the place, often by 700-800 SR or more. This kind of pattern has never been true for me in games where my individual performance mattered most. An example being StarCraft 2: I placed Silver and rapidly climbed to Diamond, and rarely if ever fell out of it due to consistent Diamond performance. Yet in Overwatch I have few options to explain this activity: as a solo queuer, one possibility is that my individual performance and ability varies wildly day to day (unlikely to me, I feel I'm pretty consistent) and impacts the team so significantly that it causes me to go on huge losing and winning streaks. I can't truly believe that one week I'm a Platinum player and the next a Master player though. That kind of skill disparity week-to-week doesn't make much sense to me. In short, my conclusion is that solo queue is more about the luck of the draw than your skill. Got a good random team put together? Lucky you, you'll win this game. Got a Junkrat with 74 hours as Junkrat in S4 and won't swap even though enemy went Pharmacy? Well gg to you pretty much no matter how hard you try. And let's not get started on the 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s that you get paired with who stick to Discord and don't communicate with you at all. What I really want to see is a set of leagues, StarCraft 2 style:
Your SR should be unique to each league, with the highest one being considered for your season end rewards. Perhaps top 500 could exist for each of them too. I feel this would make solo queue much less random, and avoid being partnered with "boosted" people who are going out on their own after a win streak with a carry team. A more consistent experience, if you will. What do you think? Has your solo queue experience been similar, swinging wildly between tiers and up and down 700 SR or more? [link] [comments] | ||

| Do you have player stereotypes for different skins in the game? Posted: 30 Mar 2017 12:46 PM PDT I like to stereotype things, and I have noticed some patterns in some players that wear specific skins in the game. For example: Stitched Roadhog - These guys are absolute cunts. They have no respect for you, always have the "pointing to the sky" victory pose and have to say EZ 4 times after the game was close. God, I hate them. Mystery Man McCree - Stay out of his fucking way. These guys watched IDDQD and will now follow his path and fucking kill you before you know it. These guys are scary. Witch Mercy - Oh my god, I love these players. They are so kind to you, they will apologize if they do something wrong and always get that quint rez. True team players. Bonus if they have a golden weapon. Default Sombra - Doesn't know the basics of the game, instalocks Sombra and then asks for a Reinhardt. They are really loud the whole game but don't complain much. Ifrit Zenyatta - Smug cunts. But they have the right to brag because they have 80% accuracy. Period. Lionhardt - They will rush into 6 enemies and then complain about the team. Other than that, really silent and don't cooperate much. Odette Widowmaker - You're fucked. Your family is fucked. Your team is fucked. You are fucked. Good luck dealing with these fucking aimbots.
