SUP WITH IT!

2017 is a brand new year, and with it comes a brand new Summit. So of course we had to bring on 2017's most HIGH IMPACT player to join us for the show: Hugs! Appearing on the show twice before, Hugo has earned his spot as a regular. Long time community member, top level Samus, and one of the most fun homies to hang out with: we're always glad to have him on the stream!

We'd love to see Hugs voted into the Summit. He's really trying to step his game up, and having an environment like Summit would be a huge help. This guy has kicked things to the next level since the beginning of 2017, already taking sets off players like Westballz, Lucky, Syrox, S2J, The Moon, n0ne, and more. Dude even somehow left BLUR of all people speechless during his SSS set with Druggedfox, which is something that I didn't even think was possible LOL

Beyond that, Hugo is just fun to hang out with. One big part of Summit is hearing the players hop on the couch and show off what they are like. Hugs would be a great choice because he's got a lot of personality and always has a story or a joke to make people laugh. There's a reason why we keep bringing him back; the first time he came on may be one of the most entertaining episodes we've ever done! Plus Hugo has his own incentives to offer, such as "cosplaying" as an old man, teaming with Chu for doubles (YAYUHHZZ), and a Best of 5 with Syrox where the loser has to dress as Chiaotzu for a day!

As always, THANK YOU for watching the show! We really appreciate your support and love seeing you all come back for each episode. If you have any thoughts or feedback that you'd like to share, please feel free to leave them in this thread or to tweet at the show (https://twitter.com/ScarTophShow)! Nothing confirmed yet, but we should likely go live again next Monday!

Go vote for Hugs by using this link: https://smash.gg/tournament/smash-summit-spring-2017/voting

Hugo is also organizing his own spirit bomb! This means that he is collecting as many votes as he can to hold in reserve for when it's needed. If you'd like to join Hugo's spirit bomb, leave your info here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScdteUfGH1zYmseBXjUg-nttB9i0kce0mXRQ0P-Iv8dHwgt1g/viewform?c=0&w=1

Every vote helps, no matter how many!

See you next time :3

A surreal decision at Beast 7

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 01:58 PM PST

BEAST7

With Beast 7 starting later this week there is no doubt many fans are excited for this event. What makes this year significantly different, however, is the addition of Europe's first Smash 64 major tournament. While the 64 scene is growing in the Americas, it was essentially a deadzone in Europe. Only having a few local tournaments with small turnouts here and there, it has been replaced by online tournaments, which happen as weekly as possible. Online tournaments, along with players who have been involved for a long time, has kept Smash 64 alive all this time in Europe. With the support of United States players, Beast 7 has received a lot of attention. Isai, a crowd favorite, has been supported by Beast 7 to compete this year as his first visit to Europe. Some other top players arriving include: Revan, Barksachez, CTG, Nintendude and Shears. Taking a quick look over where everyone is, all 43 players come from all over the world:

NO US UK SE DE ES DK CA NL FR AT
13 7 6 5 4 2 2 1 1 1 1

But what about on Beast's side; why bother reviving Smash 64 when no one bothered to before or seeing local tournaments only having few players? Bringing in Smash 64 into the lineup was a risky decision, especially as it brought up controversy due to it skipping right to majors instead of first having a local scene in Europe. Nonetheless, it has provided opportunities to European players: with the help of their brand and reputation, this may of inspired other majors to include Smash 64. With all the risks this presents, adding Smash 64 put at stake the Beast series's reputation, it is refreshing seeing this succeed the way it did. For the first major tournament in Europe, this lineup is perfect.

You can check out the pools here

Projected Top 16 Matches to Watch Out For

Seeding Country Character Player vs Player Character Country Seeding
2 CA Revan vs Fuzzyness UK 15
7 UK Jam vs Olikus NO 10
3 US BarkSanches vs alex DE 14
6 US Nintendude vs Zeozen NO 11
4 ES Fruity vs King Funk DK 13
5 US Shears vs Backes DE 12
1 US Isai vs AEROSHeEP FR 18
8 US CTG vs ShEiCk ES 9

As international players decided to participate, there will be interesting matches with the lineup Beast 7 has. Despite the United States players teasing the waters this year, brackets hold a lot of expectation in everyone's eyes.

Isai and Revan are anticipated to meet in Grand Finals, but there are many strong opponents in their way before they can have a chance to go against each other:

First up, the match between King Funk and Fruity as it is one of Europe's oldest versus Europe's best.
Second, is an expected tight match between Jam and Olikus.
In third position, CTG versus ShEiCk as their rounds will easily become an intense battle between the two.
Lastly, while BarkSanches may have an easy first round, we have yet to see what European players will bring to the table.

Even though Revan and the European players never competed in Genesis 4 earlier this year, looking back on it presents interesting results. None of the players here went against each other during the top 64 nor made it to the Top 6 . This was the first time Isai didn't make to the Top 6, instead being one of the players here, along with BarkSanches, that made it the furthest.

All players will no doubt bring their A game. Let's see if all that online training has paid off as European players will finally compete in a major Smash 64 tournament at Beast 7 this weekend in a dream clash against legends of the world.

VGBC's new Replay Technology

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 07:56 AM PST

So over the past week, Vincent (VGBC's streamer, Production Design and Technical Director) threw together a rig that allows commentators to review replays and draw on them, similar to what you'd see in the NFL and whatnot.

GimR was the first to get his hands on the new tech at the Melee Monthly this past weekend, and needless to say the results were both informative and amusing:

https://clips.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp/OddEmuYouWHY

TK has said he plans on coming through to give this a shot today, so if you're down with Smash 4 definitely come through to see to show! I'm sure there will be some great moments in there.

Why Does Rudolph Deserve to go to Summit

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 12:25 AM PST

Hello everyone! My name is KiTsuNe, and I am working with Rudolph to get him into Smash Summit! So here is what we have for you!

  • 20: 1 Bo3
  • 30: 1 Bo5
  • 40: Rudolph will write your name in super cool Kanji (Japanese)! And 1 Bo5
  • The person who gives the most votes will get their tag printed on a pair of pants for Rudolph to wear and show off while playing!

We are looking for other things that Rudolph would feel comfortable doing as he is not super comfortable speaking English, yet.

"Throughout my life I have always worked hard to be the best at everything that I do, and Smash is no different. I started out as the best amongst my friends, and I intend to be the best in the world! I look forward to playing and beating the best at Smash Summit! Thank you so much!" -Rudolph

Also, on 2/15 12noon till 2pm pst we will be holding an ama with Rudolph! If he makes it in or not we will be doing the ama. So please come with all your questions! (I know just about everyone wants to know why he sits like that, and where he got his name.)

Thank you all for your support so far! Please continue to support the #1 ranked player in Japan!

Smash'n'Splash 2 - Remembering the Salt

Is it possible to create a melee mod that mimics the shocked skeleton effect when hit by electric attacks in SSB64?

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 09:34 AM PST

Animated example of the effect I'm talking about. And all the shocked skeletons in SSB64.

I just watched an old SSB64 combo vid and I thought it would be really cool in melee as well. Is it possible to create a texture mod of some sort in melee that mimics this, or is there already one? I googled but found no results.

Today is the LAST day to register for Frostbite 2017!

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 08:12 AM PST

So, in case you've been living in a pineapple under the sea, Frostbite 2017 is happening on February 25-26th.

We just broke over 300 entrants yesterday, and we would love to finish over 350.

24 Hour Friendlies Room + Side Event Tournaments

Play Smash all weekend, from Friday to Sunday. And yeah, other events do this. It's great, they should! Play as much Smash as your brain can possibly handle for a full 60 hours.

But what other events don't do is offer constant, on demand side events that you can grind at the entire weekend to try and recoup your money from the tournament.

We're going to consistently be starting new side event tournaments as often as possible with $1-$5 entry and capped at a small number of entrants. Some will be fun, some will be intense, but all will give you the opportunity to live on competitively at Frostbite.

Two Streams

The incomparable Unrivaled Tournaments and the hometown favorite Gooshi Gaming will be streaming the event, which means that you have a better chance than ever to appear on a high profile stream at a high profile event, so you can show all of your friends and family how awesome your favorite hobby is.

Master of Ceremonies

The one and only D.Disciple will be on site to provide you the best introductions and crowd interaction anyone could ask for, and we plan on bringing some serious noise for the folks at home. Don't miss your chance to be in the crowd for this stacked event.

You do not want to miss this.
