This is an opportunity for the more experienced LoL players here to share some of your wisdom with those with less expertise. This thread will be a weekly safehaven for those "noobish" questions you may have been too scared to ask for fear of downvotes, but also can be a great place for in depth discussion if you so wish. So, don't hold back, get your game related questions ready and post away, and hopefully someone can answer them!

Verified Flairs Are Here!

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 11:59 AM PST

Hey everyone!

Around 2 weeks ago we announced that verified flairs would be coming to the sub, and now they're here! If you see a little blue tick like this next to someone's name, that means they're verified.

Who can get verified?

LCS and Riot affiliated players, coaches, owners and staff.

How do you get verified?

All you have to do is fit the above requirements and shoot us a modmail with the names of the accounts to be verified, and proof of account ownership. A temporary tweet, facebook post, etc... would suffice as proof.

Hope you guys find the flair useful! If you have any questions or concerns regarding this new addition feel free to post them on /r/LeagueOfMeta as always.

Grading system is completely unbalanced towards farming

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 08:08 AM PST

TL;DR: Farm outweighs other factors in the grading system to the point that even if you play suboptimally but focus on farm you'll get an S, but if you give up farming and get exceptional performance on other stats you get an A.

Edit: Just to be clear, I don't think it should be easy to get an S and farm should have a significant role in this. But right now the weigh is too high and could be lowered to reward other styles in which you successfully perform a trade-off giving up farm for KP or gank/teamfighting pressure.

I think that at this point everyone knows the essence of how Riot's grading system works: it compares your performance in a series of factors against people in the same position and ranking. It would work something like this:

Grade = a(kills) - b(deaths) + c(assists) + d(farm) + e(wards placed) + f(wards destroyed) + g(damage taken) + h(damage dealt)...

The math may be completely wrong but the focus here is: farm is completely outweighing the other factors, to the point it doesn't even make sense anymore for some roles. If you want to visualize, in the formula above it would be something like "d" = 10 and the other factors are <2.

My main example is jungling. I've been playing some tanks like Sejuani or Zac lately and I've had games with 75% kill participation, most damage taken, present in most objective taken, warding the whole shit and clearing wards. My final score was 4/0/25 and bam: final grade A+ or A-. Yeah my farm was low, I had an average 40 farm per 10min at the end of the game (even not that low for a slow clear jungler like Sejuani), but the point is that this whole game is trade-off, it's ok if you choose to give up farm as long as help your team steamroll the enemy by taking objectives, kills and teamfighting. Right now the grading formula doesn't recognize this as an option and even if you do a perfect KDA, high kill participation and what not you still won't get an S.

My initial idea was that they wanted to give you an S only in exceptional games, where you SHINE in every single aspect of the game, farming like a monster, killing everyone and dealing a shit ton of damage. These games exist every once in a while. But to test this idea I played another game as Sejuani: I started farming the jungle, doing a couple ganks and helping when I was around, but I also split push (yeah, Sej split). I pushed top and bot many times when I could be grouping with my team and pressing for an objective, or forcing a teamfight since that's what Sejuani is good for and should be doing. I lost the game, I was 3/5/18 at the end of the game but an average of 80 farm/10min. Result: S-. I took a suboptimal approach for my champion to boost my farm and lost the game (not the only reason tbf) but the game rewarded me with an S.

Similar games happened in ADC (autofill, don't play marksman often, so smaller sample size) where I was playing Twitch and I chose a roam intensive style with lots of teamfighting and picks. Ended the game 21/3/8, most damage dealt in 28 min with ~140 farm. Got an A-. Again, I took a trade off and was extremely successful in my strategy with high rewards on statistics but this is not recognized by the grading system.

I don't play top lane a lot and when I play mid I don't see this problem so much, but I can say that for Junglers it got to the point it doesn't even make sense. What are your thoughts on the current logic of the grading system?

Not that I don't care much about grades, I just want to win the game. But since it's there I get annoyed with this kind of logic. Also, if you want chests you know what to do: split push all day long.

They are the one who is doing management for SKT stream, and they are the one who is in the charge of resolution, stream, etc.

During the test stream, I liked it. However, Faker's stream is just awful. Not Faker is awful, but the stream is.

What is the most hilarious reason a player in your game has gone AFK for?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 10:59 AM PST

For me, it was in a normal game when a player told me "the dinner is ready and if I don't leave the game there will be no fries left because of my brothers"
