/r/GlobalOffensive Best of 2016 Awards - Nomination Thread

Posted: 20 Dec 2016 03:17 PM PST

Hello, /r/GlobalOffenders!
As 2017 draws near and the Reddit /r/bestof2016 awards roll up, we want to look back at the best content submitted to /r/GlobalOffensive this year. We have a total of 15 gold creddits to give out, with the winner(s) receiving a gold credit each. Some crazy stuff has happened this year, so make sure to vote for the nominees that you feel are the most deserving of these awards.
We ran a similar thing last year for the Reddit /r/bestof2015 awards. You can read the nomination thread and awards thread to see the best post this subreddit had to offer last year.

The categories are as follows:

  • Best Gameplay moment - 2x credits
What were the most memorable gameplay moments, be it shocking, amazing or hilariously bad. This category is specifically for plays made by members of the community (non-professional players). Two of the best moments will be chosen.
  • Best Post - 2x credits
What was the best thread? This category has a wide variety of applicable nominations and the two best posts will receive gold credit. Please do not nominate a post that falls into a different category.
  • Best Comment - 2x credits
Thousands of comments are submitted daily but which two people had stand-out comments that set them apart from the rest?
  • Best Pro Moment - 2x credits
The front page is always filled with Shroud highlights or plays from the latest tournament but which one do you think takes the cake? The player must be on a professional team at the time of the clip and be playing in a tournament - No Rank S highlights.
  • Best User Generated Content - 3x credits
We have some talented users that frequent the subreddit, making new maps, comics, amazing skins, or making sweet 3D/Poly renders of maps. Nominate the best user generated content here. 3 gold credits will be up for grabs here, to show support for content creators.
  • Most Helpful Post/Comment - 3x credits
Helpful users are the backbone of the community, from involvement in Newbie Thursday to Overwatch Sunday threads. What were the two most helpful comments and/or posts made this year? To show our appreciation for these helpful people, there will be 3 gold creddits up for grabs.
  • Best Overall Community Figure - 1x credit
The Counter Strike: Global Offensive scene is filled with community figures that either make videos, stream daily or host/cast tournaments, catering for new players and old players alike. Who was the best community figure this year? Please use the verified /u/ of the person you are nominating.

To get started:
  • Reply to the appropriate parent comment for the category you are nominating for. Make sure to link to who you want to nominate.
  • Do not nominate yourself, and look through comments to ensure what you are nominating hasn't already been nominated.
  • Vote by upvoting! Please vote up the nominations you want to win, as you can vote on as many as you want.
  • Nominees must be from 2016.
Winners in will be given a gold creddit as a reward for posting the best /r/GlobalOffensive has to offer. To remain fair, no person can win twice. In the case of the best pro moment and gameplay moment the person who submitted the thread will receive gold.
This thread will remain in contest mode, meaning comment scores are not shown and comments are in a random order.

To help you nominate, here is a list of Top-Scoring posts from:

/r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards 2016
Posted: 20 Dec 2016 11:43 PM PST

Hello, /r/GlobalOffenders!
As 2017 draws near and Best of 2016 awards roll up, we want to present a new idea to you which we had in mind. Over the last couple of years, we saw different websites conducting their own yearly awards, however, not all of them were open to community feedback. That being said, we thought why not make it totally open for the community? After all, Esports exists for the community and there is no better feedback than the one coming from all of you! Therefore, we came up with /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards. /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards will exclusively serve as the community voice, so we would like you to vote for nominees of each category. We as the mod team will not offer any nominee(s), so it is entirely up to you who will get listed.

How does it work?

We will post a parent comment for each category. You simply reply to each of them with your nominations. If you like someone else's nomination you will be able to upvote that comment. The nomination with the most upvotes will take the win. The nominating and voting will remain open until December 31st, after which we will announce the winners.

Categories:

  • Player of the year - We have seen many players going up or down in their form, but there is surely one who left the best impression on you. Whether it is performance or fan based, feel free to nominate your favorite player of the year.
  • Team of the year - Esports is bringing entertainment to us each day. However, as with traditional sports, the competition wouldn't be as fun if there wasn't someone to cheer for. So, which team you are cheering for?
  • Event of the year - We have seen two majors and multiple big LAN events. Some of them were featured for the first time, while some are already long-standing. Nonetheless, one thing is certain - each of them has contributed to CS:GO's growth. However, only one can be the winner. Which one will it be?
  • Caster of the year - The best caster of the year is an award which might be hard to conduct. We are used to watching the casting duo's, but why not decide which one of them is individually the best to you?
  • Analyst of the year - Events have become unthinkable without them. Having the pause between the maps would normally mean taking a break, but no, it is actually a time to listen to our analysts. Breaking down the maps, tactics, teams and players to the simple facts is what we enjoy a lot. So, which one of them is the closest to your heart?
  • Host of the year - After having caster and analyst of the year awards we just couldn't skip the one for the best host. This award should include both desk and stage hosts.
  • The best competitive match of the year - Nominate for the best competitive match of 2016. This includes professional tournaments only.
  • Transfer of the year - We have seen many roster changes throughout this year. Yet, there must be one which, in your eyes, has made the biggest impact on the current scene in a positive way.
  • The biggest transfer fail of the year - Speaking of the best transfers, we can't skip the fact that there have been a lot of fails as well. Whether it was replacing one or two players, or releasing the whole line-up it is entirely up to you to decide.
  • Favorite game update - Many patches were shipped throughout 2016. Some of them were disputed, while some were praised. The personal opinions may vary, so we will try to get an average vote for the best update presented in this year.

Rules

  1. You can have only one nominee for each category.
  2. Do not post twice in the parent comments. If you do that, all of your posts will get removed.
  3. If you see that someone else has already nominated the same person/team/event, etc. that you wanted to nominate, please refrain from nominating them again.
  4. Please keep all discussion within the feedback parent comment.

Feedback

Since we will have parent comments for each category, you are free to post your feedback only inside the feedback's parent comment. This is our first time running /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards, so we are open to any suggestions and feedback. Keep in mind that every single post will count, as long as it is not abusive or inappropriate.

Because it seems like Valve's plan is to update all player models, can we please either not change this man or at least have a model similar to this man? I don't want to lose him again.

How does this FPS issue not get more attention?

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 02:14 AM PST

JasonR mentioned it on his stream the other day, and cadiaN tweeted about it recently: https://twitter.com/caspercadiaN/status/810577655322079233
A bunch of peoples FPS has just been cut in half almost. I'm only getting 110-180 fps consistently, while I used to get easily above 300, min. was 200. Please Valve, fix this.

I am lurppis, AMA (v3)

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 06:07 AM PST

As promised after ECS S2 Finals, here's a new chance for everyone to ask me questions related to esports/Counter-Strike. In the past I've done two AMAs (June 22, 2014 and January 23, 2016) on reddit.
As for background, I played Counter-Strike 1.6 professionally from 2004 to 2012, attending most of the large tournaments in the span, including over 140 offline events in +20 countries. I was the captain/in-game leader of the teams I played for, including wings/Serious Gaming, hoorai/69N-28E (which Thorin ranked best in the world in spring 2007), EG (with n0thing while living in the US) and WinFakt.
Since playing I've focused on what most would consider normal life, but stayed active in esports/Counter-Strike via writing about the game, and casting/working as an analyst at the occasional event. I'm also a minority owner in ENCE, and have done a few podcast episodes, and hope to become more active with them again in January. Contrary to popular belief I also like to play the game in its current version, though I've been able to put in few hours.
I'll let questions build up for a bit and then gradually begin answering. I've answered a lot of questions during each of my previous AMAs, so I'll again do my best to go through all questions while avoiding duplicates.
You can find a list of my writing at medium.com/@lurppis and my Twitter is @lurppis_.
