Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 03:02 AM PST
Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!
MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.
With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and strats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.
Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!
If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!
As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about "no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content".
Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

[PC] Why is this game not more popular?
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 03:41 AM PST
Wow, that title sucked.
Anyway, that was kind of my intention. Short story: I played this game in the beta, and it sucked. Like, it really sucked. I love all kinds of mmos, but this one just seemed like a mess to me. And I was so excited for an Elder Scrolls mmo.
This experience led to a completly mmo abstinence for some time. MMOs seemed to me like a stuck genre. Most games followed the Runescape/WOW formula, and the ones that didn't, well, they died. I saw a huge potential in EOS but the execution was just messy.
Well that changed. I just bought the Gold edition, and holy shit. This game is amazing! Seriously, I have a hard time describing why I am so amazed by this game, the graphics, the quests, the freedom...? It doesn't really matter.
The community is amazing, I'm still in my starting zone and the sense of community was instatly there. It kinda reminds me of the old wow days. (man I miss the crossroads channel). People are friendly, often times a bit tongue in cheek but always helpful. And it seeme to extend in this subreddit.
This game should get more attention, from gamers and the media.
Anyway, thanks for keeping this game alive. I wouldn't want to miss out on this experience.
Cheers
Edit: Thanks for all your replies. Please take the time and read some comments below. I am very pleased that my point about the friendly community got reinforced.
And for the record, English is not my first language. Sorry for my grammar (even though I'm actually proud of my English skills ;-) )

[PC][NA] Having 400+ CP does not automatically mean that I am skilled.
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 01:40 PM PST
In fact, I often logoff thinking about how much I absolutely suck:
Yes, low level PUGs, sometimes I can carry you. But sometimes I am going to run out of magicka after letting my buffs/HoTs expire, then roll off the platform to my death.
Any other high CP players out there like this?
submitted by /u/pm_me_epidermis_pics - Calling meteors down on already dead enemies while trying to loot them
- Rolling off of platforms/ledges during boss fights in dungeons
- Using abilities thinking I was on the other bar, or pressing the wrong button on the CORRECT bar
- Using all my magicka DPSing instead of healing, causing that hyperactive PUG DPS to die
- Charging into groups of trash mobs, hoping that grothdarr will reliably proc so I will get 75k AoE dps

[Discussion] Since the sudden revelations about the Elk, what would you pay 4500 crowns for?
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 11:55 AM PST
In no universe is the Elk worth 4500 crowns. Some people will buy it but they aren't me or a lot of you. To be honest, I wouldn't have bought it if it were 500 crowns. It's just not my style. This got me thinking: What would I buy for 4500 crowns? What have I actually bought on the store? XP scrolls and some mimic stones. Not a whole lot. I got all these crowns from subbing but nothing I want to buy. So what would be worth 4500 crowns to you?

Sportsmanlike AND Clever? Now you're just showing off, Bananas
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 06:29 AM PST
Funny story from this morning. I got embroiled in a 2-on-1 with some bananas near Sej, and the skirmish had been ongoing for a couple minutes. It was a great fight, and I was hoping that no more folks arrived (from either side) to screw up the mix when more folks arrived to screw up the mix. But instead they just stood there watching from on top of a big rock and didn't engage me. I thought, "Fair game guys!" and continued. That's when I noticed the whole group of them were blowing me kisses. It didn't hit me until later that in addition to being very sportsmanlike, they were probably reacting to my name, "Kisses with Tongue".
Well, pucker up boys! Kisses be comin' to lay one on ya.
... well played guys. Well played.

Question about resistances.
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 12:09 PM PST
So I'm a sorcerer tank and I'm currently wondering if I'm overdoing my resistances. I read online that resistances cap at 50% mitigation which is estimated to occur at about 33k points in either physical or magical resistance. I use Bound Aegis and Hurricane to get both major and minor resolve/ward. After setting up my CP (currently CP308) I sit at 33k resistance in both physical and magic, and once I turn on both of my abilities I reach 40k. Of course the benefit falls off supposedly at around 33k.
So my question is should I shoot for 33k resistance without ward/resolve active or only with them on? I figured that any extra resistance I stack on negates any resistance debuffs I receive in combat maximizing the amount of time that I can retain 50% mitigation.
Additionally as a side question, does the Hardy perk relate to the total mitigation or is that calculated separately?
Thanks for any info, I couldn't find any real definitive guides talking about resistance so if anyone has a video they could point me to, that'd work just as well.

[XBOX] How do people manage to take castles in big groups?
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 11:02 AM PST
First off, lemme say I love this game, but the pvp aspect (on consoles anyway) is a shambles.
Whenever I go to take part in a castle siege, if there is any reasonable amount of players nearby, the frame rate drops a LOT. So much so I worry the game will just crash any moment now, it also makes it way harder to play when some abilities don't cast but hand motions are done.
Also, I've noticed the CC break doesn't really work... Again this seems to happen with a group people nearby, I can smash the triggers trying to escape the grasp of death, only to stay grounded for the full duration.
So basically, is Zenimax gonna fix this? I really wanna do more of the pvp, but the lack of smooth fights really ruins it for me and my friends.

Rattlecage or soulshine?
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 12:34 PM PST
Rattlecage or soulshine? With julianos as magplar. I know i can replace rattlecage with entropy as i currently have a flex skill spot. But i do have a full set of rattle cage with 2 sharpened swords of omen (rattlecage) with 3 jewelries and not one piece of soulshine. This is for both pve and pvp. Maybe during pvp, ill go impen kagrenacs. What do you think? Other options are: Spinners (1 piece sharpened sword, not bound yet, so offer up) Full set BSW with 3 jewelries Full set lich with 3 jewelries

[Discussion] A Quick Post from a New-ish Player
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 12:28 PM PST
I've been a part of a lot of communities - whether it be an active part, or a lurker, and I wanted to say thanks to not only this sub-reddit, but also the portion/subset of the ESO community that I've come across in my playing the game. I played during Beta, and bought the game long after release on Xbox One. I've dabbled here and there, and up until recently was fairly quiet in game - just played, quested, explored, and didn't join any guilds or contribute to the world. Needless to say, I'm not that high of a character, just enjoying sightseeing and the occasional quest :)
Recently I've wanted to learn crafting - so I reached out and learned about crafting guilds, was shown around town to the crafters areas, and was shown some great places to get the items needed to complete my daily writs that day.
I've been an ESO+ member since I started playing - I enjoy supporting developers that work hard at what they do, and recently also purchased a copy of ESO for PC, and threw down an ESO+ sub there as well. I've played a lot of MMOs.. almost all of them that have come out since EQ and Asheron's Call (my personal favorite, AC <3) - and I've got to say that I've seen nothing but good things. I enjoy lurking here while working, have learned a lot by doing so, and that's translated over to my game play nicely.
So, just wanted to say thanks! And I hope to come across some of your in Tamriel!

[PC][EU] Did my first dungeon and got called an idiot
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 05:15 AM PST
So yesterday I had some great fun in ESO. I've only really been playing for a couple of weeks and I decided to do my first dungeon. So I joined the queue and entered the dungeon with a random group.
As I had never done a dungeon before I really had very little idea what I was supposed to do so seeing as I was just DPS I followed the tank around and just attacked what he was attacking so I didn't pull aggro which would have probably got me killed (I did in fact die a few times which I'm sure was because I was new and not really paying attention). We wiped a couple of times on one of the bosses but we beat the whole dungeon in about an hour which I thought was good going for a random pickup group.
So my real question is is there anything that I should know about dungeons to avoid being called an idiot for not knowing what I am doing? I've still only done one dungeon so I have no idea about the tactics required for each dungeon in the game.

Potental new player looking into the game
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 09:41 AM PST
Heyo!
So I've had friend of mine who's been playing this game crazy, and I feel there this is a real gem honestly from what I've seen.
I'd just like to ask the community upfront what kind issues they had when playing, or if there are any big downsides to the game.
I'd like to just get the full picture before investing myself is all.
Any other tips for a newbie is appreciated too!
Cheers :)

Dolmen Farming?
Posted: 22 Dec 2016 06:52 AM PST
I started a new character and went over to the dolmen by vulkhel guard and there were a bunch of afk players with their R2's taped down. There were some waiting and dueling to help time pass, but either way.
I tried it and actually gained two levels and several levels in my skills tree overnight before my game lost connection.
Is this a good and efficient way to grind? I also know people might be camping them for an achievement.
