New self-imposed challenge: one personal storage chest

Posted: 23 Dec 2016 11:52 AM PST

I like imposing challenges on myself that make the game more fun to play, things like never using a bed to sleep through the night. Some others I've tried or heard about: - No branch mining until you've got diamonds - No natural regeneration - Large biomes - Keep brightness set to moody
Anyway, I just came up with another one that I'm trying out at my current base: no dedicated storage room, and only one chest (not a double chest) that is "mine". If I want more storage than that I need to create a dedicated building/shop/area around an item or set of items. So, for example, I can create a cow farm where I store my beef and leather. A restaurant where raw food can be made into prepared food. A masonry, where cobble can be smelted to stone, or crafted into bricks. A lumberyard for wood and wood products. And so forth.
It's amazing to me all the ideas I start coming up with as I look at my inventory and try to figure out where and how to store it all. I also have to think strategically about what to build next based on what I need to progress in the game.
I've only just started, so I don't have much to show off, but I can tell it's forcing me to build towards a proper village/city, rather than a monstrosity of a base, with little rhyme or reason. Plus, the smaller projects are keeping more engaged. I'm sure I'll tweak my own personal rules around it as I go and figure out what works.
