I tried to solo
Roshan at level 4 several times and it seems like it's all down to luck. I start with
Healing Salve, 
Tangos and 
Stout Shield, then at level 4 I pick 
Morbid Mask and according to the guides I should be able to solo Roshan,
yet I end up having almost no HP while Roshan still has a half of his. When is it safe to attempt to kill Roshan early? What am I missing?
You can
do it at 4 if you get lucky with his 
Bashes, but don't count on it. I
wait till 5 or 6 to ensure the kill or 
Smoke with a teammate to help you
out. (always remember to Smoke into the pit) Also remember to cast your
Overpower before going in and wait till its off cooldown before you start to attack
again. I also save my Overpower for after the Bashes so i can get the burst heal
back up.

Apart
from difficulty of doing Roshan, you probably shouldn't do Roshan if the
enemy has a 
Storm Spirit dire mid. Also 
Invoker and 
Templar Assassin can cause
problems.
