Current meta builds for Medusa + Spectre?

I saw a comment on here a few days about how Medusa's Linken's Sphere/Manta Style rush is crap. Same goes for Vanguard/Radiance Spectre rush. Now I'm confused as to what would be better builds that suit the current meta for those two heroes?

P/S. I did tried Linken's Sphere/Manta Style using tread swapping yesterday and, suffice to say, it was very frustrating when I can't chase other people until I get my Eye of Skadi, and the damage early on was just pathetic.

Edit: A quick clarification. I didn't explicitly go out of my way to chase. It was one of the early game teamfights that happened in mid (pub game; don't ask why I have to go mid as Medusa), and i was helping my team killing the other team. That was when I noticed that I can only support my team with some pitiful damage, and with everyone ran out of mana, we couldn't catch that Legion Commander that slipped away with her healing+speed boost.
