What's the point in having an authenticator, or a registered email address, if you're not alerted when either of these things are changed if someone tries to hijack your account?

Now thats what i call a legendary end of dxp.
This might seem insignificant,but the rune guardian is a really great pet. The problem is hes so hard to keep around bc every 30 minutesish he need to be brought to a runecrafting altar which make it super inconvenient to have him as an everyday carry. Position to find a better way for my little guy

My account was falsely recovered by someone in March of this year. I have never shared my account with anyone, but someone managed to submit a recovery request and change the email address registered to it anyway. Not only were they able to successfully do so, I never received a notification on my email that my Runescape account was registered to that there was a request to change the email address, password, or remove the authenticator. I was able to recover my account, but tonight I find that once again I'm unable to log into my account, because the email that the account is registered to has been changed, and that the password was changed.

I've been playing this account for 12 years, and the lack of security is truly upsetting. What's the point in having an authenticator if someone can get into my account without needing to enter the authenticator code? What's the point in having a registered email address if I'm not alerted when an account recovery request has been submitted? I changed my email and password the first time this happened, but that clearly didn't help any because someone managed to get into it again anyway.

Edit: To clarify, I had all my security questions in place. I had an authenticator enabled. My registered email account did not share the same name as my Runescape account. My registered email account did not share the same password as my Runescape account. I was never alerted on my email either time this has happened that someone had attempted to recover my account, or that my account had been successfully recovered, or that my account had the email registered to it changed. I was never alerted that my authenticator had been removed, on the device I have the authenticator tied to. How am I supposed to protect my account if all the available measures that are in place to protect my account, don't actually protect it? Even if I get my account back, what's to stop someone from just recovering it again?

Edit 2: Good news and bad news. The good news: I was able to recover my account. The bad news: My account was hijacked long enough ago that the bank pin was removed, and all my items were sold, and all my untradables had their augments removed and then sold. I was met with the message that I had last logged in 18 days ago, so that's that. There's obviously something to be said about me not logging in to make sure that my account was safe in the past month, but when you get no emails telling you that something has happened to your account, that doesn't really cross your mind. I wish I could suggest some little bit of advice and tell others how to keep their account safe, but with doing everything possible to keep my account safe, and having it still be stolen, there truly is no possible way to keep your account safe. I appreciate how supportive the comments here were, and was disheartened to know that I wasn't the only person that this happened to with no warning.

A few takeaways from everything that happened.

When you submit an account recovery request, your email account will never be alerted that an account recovery quest has been submitted.
When you submit an account recovery request, if you say you no longer have access to the email account the Runescape account is tied to, it completely ignores all communication with the email account your Runescape account is tied to.
When you go to change your Runescape account's email, the prior email account will not be alerted. The original email account you first registered your account with will also not be alerted.
The authenticator is not asked about at any time during this account recovery request, it's completely bypassed making it 100% worthless as far as account security goes.

I can't even entertain the thought of playing again, or starting over on a new account, because even with having the most possible security an account can have, it wasn't enough to prevent someone from getting into my account. I played this game for 12 years, and it was a big part of my childhood. I met priceless friends who I still am in touch with today on it. And there's no possible way I can continue to support a company that treats security in such a lax manner.
